You are one of the folks who inspired me to go large format with a 4x5 camera. I ended up with a Chamonix and I do not regret that decision! The interesting thing about my LF kit is that it is lighter than my MF Bronica kit. Fully agree with you on the Stearman tank! It is very good and thanks to folks like you I completely avoided the Mod(whatever number it is) holder and tank. I have yet to shoot colour 4x5 but just picked up a 50 pack of well cared for but expired Velvia100 so that will change soon :-). I do love B&W though... always have!

I can only assume you are shooting with GS-1? I adored my GS-1 but it was so bulky and heavy, especially with AF Finder. I appreciate your kind words, Paul - I have been considering the Chamonix 45Hs-1 for a little while now.

@@RobbieMaynardCreates With the Bronica I am shooting SQ-Ai. For the Chamonix I ended up with the 45N2. I scan using a Fujifilm X-T3. I find that artifact control is much better in the newer versions of Photoshop and Lightroom since they added the "Enhance" operation to Camera Raw. I use a macro lens and take photos in a 3x3 grid and stitch them together as pano's so using only the RAW Details portion fixes most of the wormy artifacts.

Nicely done video and I agree with G S, great image at 10:16! The Intrepid 4x5 would certainly be a great way to go if I decide to take the plunge in to large format. Most of my film experience was in 35mm back in the day. I've just recently started to shoot film again and have been playing with medium formats 6x6 and 6x9. I have a 6x6 pinhole camera and now a 6x6 and 6x9 folding Ansco cameras to play with. Each presents creative aspects but I can really appreciate the abilities of large format too!

Thanks for the Intrepid video Robbie. Been awhile since we had a walk and talk, and it's not raining or snowing!! I have to agree with Orion 77 below on the price of the Intrepid for what you get for your money. I understand the value in the lightness of the Intrepid compared to many field cameras at double or triple the cost but you get what you pay for and the Intrepid construction just doesn't cut it for my money. Anyways everyone has an opinion, but stay safe and hopefully we will see more of your videos soon. The train ending has to be a classic...lol. Cheers...

I have the Intrepid 4x5 and it really has some good points, light weight, low price point, plenty of service and support, good front swing movements. I also have the Toyo 45A and Tachihara 45 camera and they are more robust, but definitely heavier and expensive. The advantage of the Intrepid is that they offer a 4x5 enlarger that can fit to the camera to make darkroom prints. Ultimately, it’s the photographer that makes the photos and the camera is the tool. I think the Intrepid is a great introductory tool to learn the process and get some experience and then decide whether large format is something to pursue. Large Format is capable of great quality images, but it’s more slowed down, methodical and planned. I suggest anyone that’s thinking about LF to just get an Intrepid or a 4x5 that’s low in price to learn the process. No sense in investing 1,000.00 and up in a camera and another 500.00 in a lens and holders to find out it’s not their thing.

When it comes to shooting, I’m much more of a planner than a wanderer. But if you’re in a situation where you might be in a place and feel the need to get more shots off, you can look at a horseman back or something similar. That way you can still use the large format and all of the bonuses that come with that (rise, tilt, lens quality etc) while shooting to 120. Keep up the good work mate!

Probably you already know, but the raw files from Fuji cameras has its quirks because of x-trans filter color array, and files are much better decoded by Capture one. The messiness you showed when zoomed in looks kinda similar to familiar "worming" artifacts (or "watercolor effect"), which is a known issue when Fuji raw files placed directly in Lightroom. I have no idea if it pays any result, but have you tried convert those scans into tiff (or to dng with Iridient X-Transformer), and then work around with negative lab pro in Lightroom/ps? This might a quite an issue for me as well, because I recently bought macro lens and wanna do scanning with my X-T3, but 35mm for now only (slowly moving to 6x4.5 and 4x5 hopefully in near future).

I'll have to hard disagree re: customer service responsiveness. They probably replied to you so quickly and took care of things so promptly because of your status as a KZfaqr/your following. I've noticed this with Intrepid: People on KZfaq/Instagram/etc. with a following get nice cameras with little to no issues, and get prompt replies to customer service. Meanwhile, myself and quite a few people I know had to deal with Live Chat directly, e-mails would go unanswered otherwise. It was very hit and miss on the customer service/quality control front.

Excellent photography. I also endorse your statement that people who want to start in LF photography should first study the books by those who used the 4X5 for a living, and not listen to the B.S that has exploded on social media in the past couple of years. People who do not know one end of the 4X5 from the other, start publishing videos about how to do this and that. Over 95% of the advice available is just pure S>H>I>T. As for the Intrepid camera, it is just a tool. Photography is a combination of craft, sceince and art. People should learn to use the tool they have before criticising it. At present the Intrepid 4X5 costs £280.00 in the UK, which is less than the price of 20 rolls of TriX film. I have no affilliation with Intrepid, nor do I own one, I have Wista DX Rosewood, MPP MKVII micro Technical camera and a Cambo studio monorail. If people feel that £280.00 is not worth the price for this camera, then there is always the option to find an Ebony , just remember to remortgage your house.
