Packing clothes into your travel pillow is a genius idea to pack extra clothes when you are onebagging. Absolutely brilliant.

That's a really good idea about the pillow. Always check what's allowed at your destination country. For example, here in Australia, they are very strict about fresh produce. Don't bring any fresh fruit/vegetables/meats etc. Snacks on a plane are also very expensive so can add up quickly. I'd bring more than one bar though, which can also be shared with a fellow passenger. And perhaps some h̶a̶r̶d̶ ̶l̶i̶q̶u̶o̶r̶ chocolate.

Yeah produce is probably out, any fresh food that needs to be refrigerated should be eaten before you land. I learned that the hard way when US customs took away my Argentinian ham sandwich, which probably wasn't good after that long of a flight anyway, I bought like 5 of them because they were good quality and really cheap 😆 Good idea to bring snacks for your seatmates. I'll bring something small if my flight is really short, but I'd probably pack more in my bag to eat before the flight. Even a short 1 hour flight will take half the day when you add travel time and waiting at the airport.

I can attest to this. Arrived in Australia with an apple. A sniffer dog found it and I was ushered into a separate room where the forbidden fruit was confiscated and the dog sniffed all of me.

As a substitute for the sleep mask, might I suggest using a black beanie cap? It's often cold on those long flights, and I think that the beanie is less likely to move around and fall off your head. It'll also help to keep those earbuds securely set in your ears, too!

I like it! Or a buff because that can be used as a scarf as well, among other things.

That’s an excellent flashlight I have one myself. The blue light on your flashlight is actually a UV light which can be used for various things such as checking for counterfeit money, checking the cleanliness of your hotel room, checking for scorpions while camping, charging glow-in-the dark items (you’ll notice the edges of the flashlight itself will start glowing after you turn off the UV), etc.

Thanks, good clarification on the UV vs blue light, and I love the glow-in-the dark feature. I'll have to try the scorpion thing! 🦂

Geoff, great content & packing tips for short & long flights! Having often-accessed items (phone, battery bank, headphones/earbuds) separate from the carry-on bag is super convenient and without disturbing passengers. Thanks for the info on AirFly Pro, it's exactly what I've been needing for my Airpods! (carried wired earbuds but hate the cord!). Awesome content! -Alex@Vanquest

I've done the pouch thing, removing it from the backpack when I got to my seat, but next time I'm going to use a smallish fanny pack (bum bag, waist pack) so that my passport, etc. is always right at hand as I go around the airport, and I don't need to fuss to remove a pouch when getting to my seat. It also offloads a bit of weight from the backpack. (And I can use the fanny pack when going to the gym.) I've also done the stuffed neck pillow thing but abandoned it many years ago - the game for me is no longer taking as much as possible but rather taking as little as possible. If you have an Apple Watch, don't forget that it has a flashlight mode (phones do too).

Waist pack is a great idea too, same concept as a pouch but always right there with you.

Especially when traveling I find not having to look for cables, etc is clutch. I use the InCharge chargers (or similar) with builtin cables AND wall prongs. It’s a bit bigger but worth it. It can even pass-thru charge and 240V capable.

I only travel with an 18 L backpack, For any items I have to use during a flight I use a long double pocket pouch that snaps onto The front of my BP shoulder straps, That way I don't have to dig out my whole pack from beneath the seat. Most of the smart suggested items you mentioned fit in it perfectly. Oh yeah, it is a good idea to keep this pouch on the shoulder strap opposite your dominant hand for easier access while walking/hiking.

Great video, thanks Geoff. I have been on the lookout for a clip or device to hang my tablet and/or phone from the seatback for entertainment. Usually I somehow use the front flap of my ipad case to tuck into the upper seatback somewhere, but it doesn’t always work depending on the design of the seatback. I would love to find something that works on every seat and doesn’t take an inordinate amount of space when folded. Still looking for the unicorn!
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 7 ай бұрын
I'd love to find something like that too. 2 ideas that may work and not take up much space: A large Nite-Ize twist tie, the big ones that are thick enough to hold a tablet, maybe 12 or 18" long. Fold the entire thing in half and bend again to make a crook to hold the tablet. Bend the two ends and tuck into the seatback pocket, or maybe over the headrest if that doesn't interfere with the person in front. Next the iFLEX Adjustable Cell Phone and Tablet Stand (Amazon) looks interesting. Basically a big foldable flat foam thing you can bend into multiple configurations, probably could tuck one end into the seat pocket and cradle phone/tablet with the other side. Folds flat for easy storage and could even double as extra padding. For $10 it's worth trying out.

You can get inflatable neck pillows, they aren't as comfy as the one you showed but take about as much room as the face mask you showed.

Minimalism wasn't about living with what you really need? Flash light and notebook are overkill if you have a phone and battery pack with you
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 7 ай бұрын
Minimalism is about only owning the things that are important and useful to you, not just about owning the fewest items possible. Not everyone will use or need everything I mention here, but if you find a flashlight and notebook useful, then I'd consider it minimalist.
@OneBagTravels
@OneBagTravels 7 ай бұрын
@@Crying-Croc Probably taking the fewest items possible would be more like essentialism. To me minimalism is bringing the fewest things that you will get the most use out of and greatly improve your trip. That's a good superpower, I have the opposite problem where I have a hard time falling asleep on flights for more than 20-30 min, darkness and earplugs help.
