Fabulous work Dr R..! Thank You for you very hard research, Time and work! Hard work in Moderation was always the gold standard in the old days. My parents were born in 1918 i was born in 58 raised by old world parents with an world Wisdom not information / education. They lived and taught: Balance Work Honesty (reduces stress Huge time) Don't worry about tomorrow no stress.. Faith.

Love hearing that gardening and walking the neighborhood is the best! I used to run 5 miles a day, but age caught up with me and I was feeling guilty and depressed. This is wonderful news🤗

Maggie (my dog) and I walk on average a mile 5 times a week... for the past 10 years. I come up with something like 2600 miles. I've been pretty healthy. I also ride my bike 3 or 4 miles, weather permitting. Mowing the yard with a walk behind power mower is also good exercise.

Possibly 2 decades ago this was suggested by a study published in JAMA, I believe, by the Cooper Institute in Dallas comparing sedentary, moderately active and hyperactive adults. They did not find a J curve effect but hyperactive group did NOT do better than the moderate active group in terms of whatever health outcome they were looking at.

There are a thousand levels between moderate exercise and olympic marathon runners that you skipped over. What about HIIT for 20 min 4 days a week? Or normal resistance training 5 days a week? Or jumping rope for 10 min every day? Many of us are way beyond walking around the driveway for 40 min but nowhere close to running marathons (or even 1/2 marathons).

Yeah it’s clear this guy has a bias against, and dislikes exercise in general. Particularly disappointed as you pointed out how there was basically no mention of resistance training. This was basically a cardio only analysis of exercise.

It will be impossible to include the effects of every type of exercise in any given study. The takeaway is given the J-curve, find where you would land relative to the two extremes.

I guess if you run 200km a week you are at the top. 100km you are the same as lazy ass. 50km peak. Of course it's just your chance of virus. If you do a shred and do the 100km, you might get crook, but there will be other benefits that are worth it. Whilst shredding its not good for you but long term it is. For the last 26 years I have done 40 hours a week of moderate excercise, never been sick once in that time period. 10 months ago I added 10 hours of intense and dropped 15 hours of moderate. I have been slowly shredding, so I think I am at the limit. Still haven't been sick. I am 52

After a lot of years of cardio I was having difficulty with maintaining muscle even with working out. I was strong but not really holding onto muscle, which is hugely important as we age. I also had some knee pain. I slacked on the cardio until I had put some muscle on then went back to running but only two miles at a time Some biking and if I’m near a mountain I hike. I cut out the hour on the stair master which I loved doing, and I now have muscle at nearly 6 decades old. I had picked up ten pounds from a mold exposure prior to slowing the cardio, and I’ve not lost that or gained any more. If you’ve studied the effects of black mold on the central nervous system, hormones, weight etc then you’ll understand what I meant about the mold exposure. Would like to see the doctor do a video on mold it’s absolutely terrible

I follow your Medcram videos, thank you for taking time to make all of your informative videos. I noticed when I exercised or worked physically to much I most always acquired an infection when exposed to a myriad of infected people.

I wouldn’t characterize couch potatoes as “normal”. Moreover, there is a lot more to health than upper respiratory infections alone. There are numerous levels of exertion between Olympic athlete and neighborhood walk.

Isn't it possible that those who exercise were healthier to begin with which enabled them to exercise. I used to exercise daily until I started dealing with chronic illness. Now it Feels impossible.

I'm 22, I weigh 56kg I have a good muscle structure not too big obviously, but I do push-ups and some other intense exercises, however my main preferred exercise method is running, I run 10km a day and about 40 to 50 km a week, and I have a healthy diet which doesn't include sugar, and lately i'v been trying to increase my running distance, I gradually started adding 1km per session, and yesterday I ran for 13.2 km (1h25mn of running non-stop & burned 729kca) and as always I ate my post workout meal. It didn't feel like I was overdoing it, I felt energized and I even wanted to do more, today however I woke up feeling a bit drowsy and had a slight fiever, if there is anyone experienced in this and could tell me if I'm doing it wrong or if it doesn't even have anything to do with it, which by the way is what I think to be the case, as I ran in a t-shirt and it was a bit chilling and I usually run with a hoodie On, Thank u for reading this.

Obviously you are overdone. Everything had a formula and limit. Even though you don't feel the crash but overdo in exercise and anything else will definitely lead to harm than good just like eating, not because you eat healthy nutritious food that mean you can eat more than your body needs. The same as taking vitamins, cannot overdose or it will affect your health in the bad way instead.Use common sense and good judgement. That's the basics you should know

@@Hippy2021 yes u're absolutely right, but it's not the case here, I adapted to this rhythm and I've been doing it for a while, I just ran for a long time in the cold with a t-shirt on and I was sweating like hell, so I got a cold and I didn't run for 9 days after that so it's just as bad as overdoing it, but i learned the lesson.:)

This is of course very anecdotal, but my husband runs half marathons, trains everyday, and I just walk 15 mins a day and do 1 minute intensive workouts (20 pull-ups, 30 push-ups and that’s it). I have a bulging disc so I’m limited in what I can do, plus I’m also lazy. He’s in his early 30s, I’m close to 40. We’re both vegan. The first time we got COVID, he got a little sick for a few days, I only knew because he tested positive, otherwise I wouldn’t have known I had it. Had to test twice to get the positive result. This last time only he got COVID, I never did. Again, anecdotal, but it’d make sense under this model.

just got covid after 4 jabs and wearing masks etc How? 2 heavy gym workouts two days in a row. at um age 70! When will I learn? Overtraining to make up for missed workouts equals... more missed workouts from getting sick. No better drug than endorphins from exercise. Wonderful info as usual here. Thank you good doctor. Based on what ive learned about d3 I upped mine to 10,000 IU soon as covid hit. asc. acid 3-5 grams a day and zinc helped

I dont know about thyroid inflammation but it's not good for your thyroid to do strenuous exercise

If you are having thyroid issues you have adrenal issues going on. Exercise but not high impact and keep your heart rate from maxing out. In other words exercise without stressing your body.

Respiratory infections are only a single health metric. Other metrics include risk of sudden death, cancer, and overall mortality. All of the above are reduced by lower resting heart rate and greater heart rate recovery after exercise - meaningful improvements in which generally require vigorous exercise, not the sort of moderate exercise (gardening, leisurely walking, etc which you appear to favor). Accordingly, I found this particular video to be both overly simplistic and misleading, from the standpoint of evaluating the benefits of differing levels of exercise intensity.

This is inaccurate nutrition advice for most people who are metabolically unhealthy (88% of Americans) and whose bodies cannot properly metabolize carbs, as they are already insulin resitan and in a chronically inflamed state. Fruit and fructose are metabolized by the liver just like alcohol. Please do your own research by people who are more informed on the issue. Robert Lustig is a good place to start. Acute inflammation is the proper response to exercise. Chronic inflammation from stressors is not healthy over time. It is an important distinction to understand.

Fruit has fiber matched perfectly to the fructose so it does not harm your liver if you eat primarily whole fruits like an apple. Dr. Lustig speaks against fruit juices and high fructose corn syrup in other refined foods. There is a huge difference. You lose minerals when you sweat and over exercising is a stress to your body. Not saying exercise isn’t nice but it doesn’t replace a healthy diet. Grains are very healthy until they are refined and combined. Rice kept the Asians trim and healthy for generations until they adopted fast food and overeating meat and highly refined foods combined with fat and sugar like pastries. No one over eats plain white rice or bread.

@@ihartsacto I hear you. I think it depends on the fruit and how metabolically unhealthy a person is. WIth 88% of the US population in the unhealthy category and with the rising numbers of NAFLD, fructose does not allow the liver to recover as quickly And while you "can't outrun a bad diet" neither cab you "out eat a lack of exercise". A highly active body will be more tolerant and able to function on crap food, than a sedate body will be able to function on "perfect food"...but neither scenario should be the goal. Asians have a very high rate of diabetes but because they store fat differently, it isn't as visible as in other populations. Visceral vs. subcutaneous. Exercise is a good stress for your body and yes over-training can lead to chronic bad stress. Finding the right exercise and a diet that is nutritious and is suited to your individual metabolic health should be what people strive for.
