I bought this yesterday evening and slept in it in a field in Scarborough, It was howling windy and raining, set it up in the dark in about 5 or six minutes for the first time ,super simple and set nice and tight. Most of the night the rain was like someone spraying a fire hose on the tent and I stayed completely dry and nothing really flapped about. Super happy with it. Thanks for the review.

Hi l live in Fuerteventura and here we have almost no grass or soft ground to pitch a tent , so when I do go camp I usually put a little dome tent in the tray of my pick up truck . But still happy I bought it seems well made and packs down small and light enough. I actually bought mine in Millets in Scarborough.

In my opinion such a tent is for sleeping in. During the day you go hiking or whatever, but you won't stay in your tent. My solution for more space to sit and to cook is a tarp.

Bought this tent few weeks ago but still haven’t used it yet. I bought it because like u I love OEX and the build quality is always great. I had a cheep one man tent from Aldi and it was ok but wasn’t very waterproof and the foot box area had no poles so your feet where hitting the bottom roof. I have been trying to get this on go outdoors and millets for the last 2 months or so but anytime it came in it would go out of stock just as quick so I think it’s a popular tent. Glad I have it now though. Great video as always. Thanks Dan.

I reckon a mix of this and the Snugpak Ionosphere would be more or less perfect. Love the side entrance of the OEX, having two entrances, and how far the flysheet comes out for boots etc. Also those wind clips are a really good idea. Snugpak though the inner is all mesh, which is really nice as it's completely bugproof and well ventilated so you don't get any condensation at all. In summer, just that mesh inner and a tarp is nice to give you protected sleeping from bugs but also some living space to cook in. Feels less claustrophobic when you can see all around too I guess. It has little velcro ties to the poles for the flysheet which is nice and quick. But a mesh inner with a slightly bigger fly and OEX style side entrances on both sides would be perfect for me!

Thanks for this Dan. I use to own the original black Phoxx 1 and I like the upgrades they've done. However, I completely agree with you about the restrictions of these tents - unless I guess you have a tarp over the top. Like the colour of it. 17 pegs??? That's a lot but then they haven't designed it for the outer and inner to make use of the same pegging out points. Thanks again. ATB - Ben

I have the original Phoxx 1 and love it, use it for wild bike camping and in all four seasons. Like others swapped out the pegs for Ti ones. At 5'10" and 220lb there is room for me and my rucksack (used as a pillow) and all other stuff goes in the vestibules or stays on the bike. I can turn around in it by lying on one side and turning (tight but doable), I can change tops by kneeling with torso bent over my legs; socks by lying down and bringing my feet up: I am not the most flexible person either. I have an Alpkit Soloist if I intend to stay around camp longer or the weather is going to be really poor, then sitting up becomes more of an issue, but usually I am up and out. Thanks EWM for the videos, very informative.

There is an argument that a separate inner and outer is better in the wet because when rolling up your wet tent you can keep the 2 parts separate, that way when you pitch later in the day the inner hasn't become wet. Also you can just use the inner when it's very warm and keep the bugs off. Thanks for the vid, gonna get one, still only £55 in GO today!

Luckily I’m a 5’7” & size 10 slim female so should have enough room! I already carry an extra tarp and a waterproof picnic rug so that should solve the cooking in rain problem. Good and fair review mate, well done. Personally i'm not a one man fan, if it weighed closer to 1KG then that would be a fair trade off for the lack of room. I bought a Naturehike cloud up 2 last year, and it weighs roughly 1.5 KG. Tons of room to sit up, just about brew up in the porch in an emergency. Another good one on the market is an alpkit soloist. Which looks incredibly similar to the Naturehike. Made in the same Chinese factory i suspect. The advantage of pitching the inside first, is you get a bug mesh only tent for a summer camp out in good weather. Odds are against being able to do that if its pitched outside first.

Im absolutely against these one man low profile tents , they are light weight compact and great for all that BUT and this is my point you must be able to sit up in the tent ,laying down to cook or boil a brew at the end of the day is so dangerous especially if extremely tired? as a former medic I have seen it so many times ,guys stop for the night through up their hoop bivi get a brew on light a cig stare out in to space and then BANG you have dozed off and gone face first in to your stove , again another great film glad to have found you .

Also, usually one brings a tarp along when using tents like this to make a little dry sitting/cooking area infront of the tent, cutting out the need to do any of that inside the tent. I got a 1 person tent. Really like it... for what it is. Took it on a back property camp at a farm. We were there for a long weekend and the sky opened up halfway through. While I remained warm and dry, I was stuck in my tent for a significant part of the day, barely able to lean on my elbow, though thankfully the vestibule was large enough to cook in with my small BRS stove. That weekend taught me both that I had picked a really good tent, and that that tent was best used in specific circumstances and in conjunction with a tarp. My 2 person tent is heavier, but at least I can be comfortable staying in it for a significant amount of time, and I can change my clothes without leaving the tent

Had to get help from friend to put the fly sheet on. Great for getting in and chilling but not for doing anything else. 2nd time was last week just off the summit of Ben More. Put it up in 5 minutes. Very windy night and it stood up well. It is cramped, but as you say, it is a one person tent! All this aside, it is a great little tent. Wild camped up on the South Downs and had 60 mph winds coming off the coast and it withstood it pretty well; was more worried about the tree I'd pitched up under! I bought one of these, because of the good reviews they've received. I DO like it, but it is quite a confined space inside. One thing I have found, the thickness of your sleeping mat makes quite a difference, as the inside of the tent slopes inwards by your head. My 5 cm thick (mountain equipment Glacier 5.0) means there's not much space between head/face and inner tent wall; but this is improved with a thinner sleeping mat, That's something to keep in mind.

I should mention, the Glacier 5.0 *only just* (about 60cm wide) fits in the Phoxx 1 V2. Which is another reason, a shallower, narrower option would be a wiser option perhaps.

I'm 6'1 and I can fit in this tent with my bag as a pillow and it was fine as long as don't fully stretch out. It is tight but worth it for less space taken up in bag in my opinion.

Careful with winter camping in something like that. I'm 6'2" and have found that when it's cold it's easy to get stiff and aches when you can't stretch out. Very hard finding a long enough tent that isn't unreasonably heavy though

I just bought one (oct 2nd) from Go Outdoors for £39.99. All one man tents are pretty tough to live in. This is the third one I have tried and hopefully has the least compromised design. The side opening is deffo a big plus compared to the end only of existing tunnel tent.

I was looking at the cost and weight of the tents before I bought mine. I started looking at space aswell to winter camping can all be done in one tent. I ended going for the naturehike cloud up 2 in greed. It’s a 2 man and great head height and storage. For 89 it’s well worth it at only 1.4kg. Worth a look at.

@@Spaghettikid I’ve now sold my up 2 and gone over to hammock set up. I had a stroke and I’m mostly wheelchair at the mo. When I get up and out again I’ll be tree swinging. I got a eBay hammock that’s got it’s own bugnet. I’ve gone for the Dd xl tarp but I’m looking at a hammock hot tent from onewind. I could get me and two maxes on the ground in that and split the weight

Hi Dan. Great video. I've just watched your review of the Salamander hooped bivvy. I my mind this is more like a larger bivvy type tent. Is there any chance of you doing a Salamander v Phoxx1 comparison video. Cheers

Got this tent last month and am taking it out for the first time tomorrow. At 5’6” and slim I’m not envisioning that many issues with space. I’ll be trekking and camping but have a tarp and my trekking poles with me anyway, so can always build myself extra room for cooking etc, should I need it.

The one man tents of this size & dimension really do limit what you can & cannot do whilst camping, like you say if you just want to get your head down & go to sleep or listen to some tunes then they will do the job,if you are tent bound due to bad weather well you are in for a bit of a torrid time...if anyone is looking for a roomy one man tent I'd definitely check out the Nordisk Svalbard 1..it's lighter than this tent,30cm higher meaning you can sit up easily & drink/get dressed or undressed,it's longer & wider,a vestibule you can cook in if need be & it's wind speed tested to withstand a hurricane & you can pick them up new for about £150 online. I always like your honest reviews on gear be it good or bad & that can only help us all in the long run as we renew or upgrade our gear..cheers fella

Nice one Dan, looks great protection tent for backpacking and just in it to sleep. Anything else and would need a tarp would you agree? The tent poles alongside trekking poles combo may lend itself to a quick tarp set up. Doing so would vastly improve conditions.

I have a 1 man tent (Wild Country Coshe micro) and its tiny!! I had to sleep curled up with the door half open to avoid drowning in condensation! However it's half the weight of my Vango Banshee 200 which means I have room for extra beers so it's not all bad!!

Reminds me of my argos tiger paws , a tent that served me well for a year or two even surviving a blizzard but I've needed more and more room as I've got older so moved on to a banshee and a couple of nature hike tents targa 2 and now cloud peak , a two person is a minimum for one person and kit and the nature hike tents allow me more space and are high enough to sit up in yet still light weight and sturdy but at £50 this looks to be a bargain

Good review, the tent looks a faff to put up especially in the rain and 17 pegs seems alot. I agree with what you said about one man tents with the exception of the Hilleberg Soulo i found I could get changed and cook easily but then you are paying a premium for it.

Great general tent but The poles are pretty fragile so you can't tighten them too much. I've had 2 joints bend and 1 snap after a year of sparse use. Honestly if you're more than a casual camper wanting a small profile tent, get a tarp.

I made the mistake of buying the old Phoxx 1 in black, I'm 6'2'' and discovered I didn't fit the damn thing. Ended up giving the tent to my son and bought Vango Banshee 300 which is roomy for one person and gear, and for a bit more space I also got the Oex Coyote 3 which is a very good tent.
