Ha, once in a group play along there was a fast DUDU riff that I got zoned into and after furiously playing it with my head down, grooving to the music, I slowly became aware that I was the only one still playing and everyone had stopped and was staring at me while I wailed away on my uke. Opps, my first unintentionally solo, Lol Or how about the time I joined a sing along and belted out the lyrics with everyone, and afterwards my friend told me I was singing the wrong words. I think it was a Steve Miller song but I had always heard the lyrics one way and was way off the mark. My red face wasn't from a suntan :))

Before played music for Hundreds of thousands tourists in Germany but with other Instruments. Now it is totally new for me to learn the Rhythms with Ukulele and all Basics are new for me. Your lessons are very helpful and encouraging to continue und practice to become gradually better.

Love your lessons! I've been looking for a great beginner fingerpicking song for the banjolele. I can't wait to practice this and play it for my grandma! She'll adore I'll Fly Away! Do you have anything for The Rainbow Connection from The Muppet Movie? I would love to hear your take on it! The Rainbow Connection is the reason I bought a banjolele before an ukulele 🙄 I hadn't played an instrument in 15-20 years. Finally broke down and bought my banjolele at the beginning of March. I am LOVING it. Excited to see what's next!

So excited for you! What kind did you buy. I would love to hear your thoughts. I was going to not make a tutorial for Rainbow Connection because there are several other KZfaqrs that have done that one. I’ll consider it, but I just wanted to try to do something different. I’m so happy that you like this one, and how sweet of you to play it for your Grandma.

@@OneMusicSchool Well, since I was starting from scratch, I didn't want to spend a lot of money. I wanted to make sure it's something I would stick with. I snagged a Kmise Concert Banjolele off of Amazon. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it doesn't seem bad at all! It stays in tune really well, sturdy/well built, and came with small bundle (extra Aquila strings, bridge position indicator, tuner, strap, case)! I would definitely suggest it to someone just starting out. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a tenor ukulele soon! I do understand. There are quite a lot of Rainbow Connections out there. I had a little bit of trouble at first finding one that would stay close to the original and include the modulation. Of course, I hope you change your mind! In the meantime, I'll work on my fingerpicking! Thank you for making your videos so easy to follow! 😁🎼🎶

Wow! Thanks for the in-depth response. That really helps me, and I’m sure it will help someone else that is looking into a banjolele. Thanks for understanding about the Rainbow Connection song. ~~~☝🎶🏡~~~ Thanks for the Happy song. These "old time spirituals" songs opened up my ears to a whole new category of music I knew nothing about. Seeing "O Brother Where Art Thou" I thought the music was one of the best things about it. This is a good workout for the right hand. Could really feel it when finger picking at full speed. This is going to be one of my go-to strengthening songs, physically and spiritually :) Thanks Katie. Have you thought of doing any other songs from the soundtrack? True, the Duke10 Banjolele sound and your sunny skirt brightened up this rainy day (yes we'd had a spot of rain) and you know what's cool? In the time that I watched this twice and wrote my comments, the rain has stopped and the sky has cleared :) Cool bloopers too. The last one was exactly how my hand felt after speed picking this tune, and I think I made the same face lol. Hope you're having a super Saturday, and a sweet Sunday is enjoyed by all. Thanks again for this tutorial. Happy day

No way! Really? Maybe I should wear yellow more often. I do love it. That’s so great that this reminded you of the Lord. Sometimes we can get very clouded by this world and forget that there’s a place that is really our home. I’ve been feeling that way a lot, but God has been reminding me that there will be a place with no more misunderstandings, no more tears, and no more pain. It helps me keep going. I Brother Where Art Thou has an awesome soundtrack! Agreed!

@@OneMusicSchool Hi, yeah the rain cleared and now there's that fresh earthy smell and a cool light mist floating among the trees. Yellow is a good positive color. When you mentioned it in your vid I thought it would be fun to have a yellow drum skin on the Duke Banjolele. Or even interchangeable one's in different colors if they are not hard to remove. I hear you about the world. I've sort of followed your lead and scaled back my internet time. Been nice actually reading a paper book without notifications popping up on top of the page :) Getting grounded again and tuning in to the whisper's of the Lord. I don't know if people tell you, yet for me you are a leading light with your positivity and honesty. It's refreshing to hear you relate your ups & downs because we've all been there and it's good to know we are not alone. You got the "reals" and I think that's pretty cool :)

Thank you for kind words. Sometimes I wonder if I'm even making a difference. The world and internet algorithms reward us for being online more, posting more...it drives me crazy sometimes. I love interacting and connecting with people, but sometimes I find that my brain needs to breathe. I actually have a time limit on my social media, and my apps shut down after a certain amount of time. I have to manually unlock it for more screen time. I've noticed that my patience has increased, feelings of anxiousness dwindle, and I notice and appreciate the world around me more. It's not easy to put the phone down, but it has been worth it. I REALLY like paper books. I have so many that I want to read :). Have a peace-filled day.

This is fun and FANTASTIC. I'm an impatient newbie at the uke, working my way through "Ukulele For Dummies" (Alistair Wood). The book presents "I'll Fly Away" with a simple strumming pattern. But this lively spiritual just begs for more. (At least, in my mind, anyway.) So I decided to search KZfaq for an appropriately upbeat, simple tutorial. You not only nailed it, you exceeded my expectations. This is exactly what I wanted and then some. It's also in the same key as in the book, so I don't have to try to transpose chords and notes. This is so COOL. Thank you. I'm elated to have found your channel. Btw, that is an extremely sweet banjolele. I'm playing a very old Gibson Uke 1. Your arrangement truly does work well and sound wonderful on both instruments.

Am I doing this wrong? Looking at the finger picking and where to hold my fingers it looks like the second finger on the F cord (G string) never actually gets played, if so wouldn't it be easier to play by just doing the finger on the first thread of the E string?
@OneMusicSchool
@OneMusicSchool 4 жыл бұрын
Sure, that would work just fine. I just hold the entire F chord because it’s in my muscle memory, and it also serves as a “safeguard “ so to speak. If I accidentally pluck the G string, it will still sound good because it’s apart of the F chord. If I accidentally pluck the G string and it’s open, it will sound strange. It’s not necessary to hold the full F chord, but I like to do so for myself because it’s comfortable for me. You can choose what is best for you 😀.
@linaxcq
@linaxcq 4 жыл бұрын
@@OneMusicSchool Thank you :) I haven't gotten as far as developing my muscle memory properly yet, though I guess that would be another reason for making sure I still hold it down, I'm just very slow still at changing cords and less fingers make it a bit easier for me.

Why finger F if you arent going to strum that string? I am lost.
@OneMusicSchool
@OneMusicSchool Жыл бұрын
Hi, that’s a good question. I use it as a place holder. Because we’re not perfect, sometimes we end up picking a string even though we didn’t intend to do so. I hold the entire chord just in case I end up picking the G string by accident, and it would still sound like a “happy accident “ or as if though I meant to pick it that way when I’m performing. If you left the G string open while playing the F chord, and accidentally picked it when you didn’t intent to, it may sound off. Give it a try and I think you’ll see what I mean. Additionally, I hold the full F chord because it’s just in my muscle memory 😀. I hope that helps.
