This area, Ho Chi Minh Trail, was having the most intense bombing and fighting during the Vietnam war. Lots of lives on both sides were lost during the Vietnam War in this area. After 47 years, it is very nice to see a major change in the area. War is destructive and nothing good from it.

Brings back such great memories. The beauty almost brings a tear to my eye. Phong Nha is a small but quaint place with amazing caves for sure. There is a restaurant on the main street that actually serves an amazing beef stew, go figure LOL. oh and if you go to Ninh Binh I mentioned the Elizabeth hotel, it is actually in Tam Coc, sort of a small village a couple kilometers away. It is where you get the boats ect. Also think it might be fun to hear a couple minute interview with dad, to see what he thinks of Vietnam and the trip so far. I bet when he gets home he is going to be considered the baddest biker amongst all his friends LOL

This kind of rural road is quite nice for biking with your feet. Even now at the age of 70, I still could bike on Sunday with fellow elderly bikers all day at the distance of 120-200 km. So I could do the same route you guys did each day, but it will take the whole day, not half a day like you did. For the electricity charging station, I think it is mainly for e-motorcycles. VN motorcycles are second only to Indonesia, about 100 millions registered right now. Thailand comes third. I have read somewhere that VN is promoting e-motorcycles to cope with rising fuel costs as well as to cut pollution.

This is one of Vinfast's electric car charging stations. Vinfast (a company of Vin Group) is a Vietnamese electric car brand. Vinfast plans to set up 140,000 charging stations along the territory of Vietnam (according to billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong, owner of Vin Group). Vinfast invested 4 billion USD to open a factory in North Carolina, USA this year, 2022 (US President Joe biden congratulated this event). In addition, Vinfast also opened a factory in Germany. In the first phase, Vinfast electric cars plan to sell only to 07 markets including the US, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Israel and Vietnam.

So beautiful guys. And this road is not well known at all so you just shared with us a hidden jewel. As for the wind turbine, VN is actually one of the few countries that are having a huge amount of solar and wind energy source, this is confirmed from World Bank. The EV charging stations are the investment of Vingroup and its subsidiary Vinfast as they are making e-scooters and EVs. If you get a chance when you get to Hanoi, ask your hotel to see if they can find a Vinfast escooter for you guys to rent for one day to drive around town.

Sorry to hog the comment section but let me know what you think of those small Vietnamese bananas. I thought they were very flavorful, very fragrant, the texture is not mushy, when I used to eat them when I was living and working in VN. I liked them quite a bit but didn't truly appreciate them until I moved back to the States when I eat Dole bananas and I realize Dola bananas have no fragrant, and so mushy. Also, the Vietnamese bananas are "durable" ?!?!? The skin may be black but the inside is still fine, strange, but great.

I used to know there are only 3 or 4 kinds of bananas until I went on tour with my Vietnamese friends back in 2012, and realized they have so many kinds of bananas. I especially like the one that as big as your thumb or finger. I think they call it "Chuoi Cao" which literally translates to "tall banana". The name is hilarious to me when you realize that it is so small and is more expensive than other bananas.

@SOCCER VN Yes, I thought I saw some news article about VN is increasing its food exports to Europe with the recently signed EVFTA. I'm glad VN's agricultural sector is growing quickly as that benefits the VN farmers and its rural provinces. Growth in VN's urban areas are fine but living in the US, it's sad to see the hollowing out of rural and agricultural areas so I'm hoping VN's agricultural and food industries continue to grow to retain people in its rural/agricultural provinces and allow balanced growth for the whole country. Take care.

@@jilldawson89 It`s Chuoi Cau , not Chuoi Cao . Cau means areca-nut or betel-nut , because those bananas are so small that they look like an areca-nut . For your information , nowadays the Vietnamese people use areca-nuts and betel leaves only for wedding ceremonies , not for chewing like before . Sometimes today you can still find some rare old ladies (over 80 +) chewing them with lime and tree bark to strengthen their teeth
