A new episode of Destroying Doubts featuring Hamza Andreas Tzortzis.
What are your morals? A key contention against Islam is the seeming misalignment between the morals of Islam and the modern day. This stretches from the 'hudud' laws, Islam's rulings for women and it’s intolerance towards homosexuality.
Is Islam immoral and out of touch with modernity? More fundamentally, how do we, as a society, form morals? Why should one moral claim be taken over another conflicting moral claim? This is at the heart of today’s conversations between the religious and the secular world.
To help us assess this, we are joined by Hamza Tzortzis who is the founder of Sapience Institute which aspires to elevate Islamic discourse through deep intellectual engagement with foundational values of compassion, truth and tolerance. He is a writer, researcher, public speaker and is currently completing his PhD in Philosophy.

No, it's accepting a lie at face value because you were forced to. You were never given the choice to believe if Allah is a real god, you were commanded to have that belief at the pain of certain death. A real god wouldn't need people to superstitiously believe he exists. A real person is present in the universe wherever they happen to be standing. An imaginary friend can't stand anywhere, so nobody can ever see him.

@@haywardjeblomey6505 I was born a Muslim, thank God, and I grew up with friends of several religions, and even I met an athist, I couldn't find a better conviction than what I was born in. The Creator did not create us and leave us in this world to divide between theories, doubts and opinions. Rather, he showed us the basic outlines and rules and set us absolute truths on which to base our worship, understanding, and behavior. If you see things confused and you don’t see the universe and religion as absolute facts that’s your problem. The truth & religion exists and therefore it will be held accountable. Even the phrase there is no absolute right destroys itself. If you think there is no absolute right, then your belief - the absence of an absolute right - comes out of being an absolute right that you invoke us to be just an opinion that you cannot oblige anyone to! It's like arguing that a white sofa is better than black! Just an opinion and a taste that requires no one else!

There is no morality from someone like that, only oppression. The lies that Mohammed told continue to dominate the innocent and reduce the rights of humans worldwide. It is a growing threat to peace and stability, and can not lead us into the future. It commands you to accept a lie from the ancient past, so it is not a real authority on anything. Your imaginary friend is so powerless that I can call him imaginary and he can't lift a finger to argue otherwise. Imaginary friends can't do things that real people can do, such as typing a sentence. I can type anything I want, and your imaginary friend can't do anything about it. We don't need any kind of religion for anything. Religion, especially Islam, is fraud. In the case of this religion, it is brainwashing at the tip of a sword. You are dominated by the clergy and taught that your "prophet" can do no wrong, when in reality he harmed a child in the worst possible way, making him the opposite of a role model. Your beliefs don't come from a supernatural being, they are the lies of a desert cave bum who didn't know right from wrong. Allah is an imaginary character. Morality cannot be objective, and it never has. It depends entirely on which society you belong to. The belief that a child destroyer can do no wrong is a dangerous superstition that gives you permission to wreak havoc on others.

Dear Brother, We see that the Sunnis, Shias, Salafis, Sufis etc include the name 'muhammad' in their shahada, in the adzaan (call to prayer) and they also place the name muhammad on the wall inside their home and inside their masjid or mosque. The Shia people also include the name of Ali in their incantations. I have a question. But first please refer these two verses from the Quran: Surah al Zumar verse 45 "And when Allah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the hereafter shrink, and when those besides Him are mentioned, lo! they are joyful." Surah al Jinn verse 18 "And that the mosques belong to Allah, therefore do not call upon any one with Allah" In Surah az Zumar verse 45 it says "zik-krillahi wahdahu" which means 'Allah alone is mentioned / remembered'. In surah Jinn verse 18 it says "laa tad'u ma' allah ahadan" which means "do not call upon anyone with Allah" From these two verses it is very clear that Muslims should not call upon or mention anyone other than Allah, especially in the masjid or mosques. You may say that you mention the name 'muhammad' in the shahada and in the adzaan or call to prayer not as an act of worship but just out of respect, regard and love for the Rasul. But at the same time if you do not mention the name 'muhammad' in the adzaan and in the Shahada then your worship to Allah swt becomes null and void. The worship of Allah swt is therefore dependent on you mentioning names other than Allah (like muhammad) in your shahada and adzaan. Your heart may shrink with aversion when you hear that you should not mention muhammad in the shahada and in the adzaan. Your heart may become joyful if you hear that it is alright to mention the name muhammad in the shahada, in the adzaan and to place the name muhammad beside Allah in your homes and masjids. May I get your comment. Thank you and salam.

@@shamsheerg7519 There is absolutely no slavery in the Quran and hence in Islam. All the Rasuls wer sent to free humans from slavery. The biggest example is Musa or Moses who was sent to free the Bani Israel from the slavery of Firaun or Pharaoh. Each time slaves (raqab) are mentioned in the Quran the words "free the slaves" are also mentioned. 4:92 This one verse alone mentions freeing the slaves three times: i. atone by freeing a believing slave ii. atone by freeing a believing slave and iii. freeing a believing slave. 5:89 atone by freeing a slave 58:3 atone by freeing a slave 90:13 The freeing of slaves. Slavery is a Biblical idea which the mullahs have stolen from the Jewish and Christian teachings. [Lev 25:46.20] You may bequeath them to your sons after you, to inherit as apossession for ever; you may make slaves of them, but over your brethren the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another, with harshness. This is not unlike Malik’s suggestion in his book the Al Muwatta. The Bible also has more suggestions on what to do with slaves [Lev 25:44.18] As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are round about you. There is no slavery in the Quran. But there is plenty of slavery in the hadith which are not only all false but they are plagiarised from the Jewish and christian Bibles.

The astronomers that teach the heliocentric model haven't studied the philosophy of science. Trust me, I used to believe just like you that science gave us truth but after reading books on the philosophy of science, I learned that we are very unsure about how our universe works and all these 'natural laws' are not 'laws' but they are patterns that we have observed and we don't know why they happen but we have theories, however we will never be able to find the true cause.
