JD's quarterbacking for UP during the whole season...shades of Hector Calma, Dindo Pumaren, Olsen Racela - pass first and excellent orchestration of plays (spacing and on defense, talaga kita mo yung attention niya to details) - Ron Jacobs will love this guy. He was visible in all UP victories (crucial steal against DLSU on final four, Spencer's game tying 3 in game 1 was off JD's assist, Lucero's 3 in endgame was off drive and kikout from JD) --- i mean look at all the gihlights from all their games,,,,

Both team really did a great job! That was intense game for the finals. I want to praise SJ Belangel from Ateneo because he really carried the game for his team! And ofc from UP, Cj Cansino and Cagulangan, those 3 points shots is just chef's kiss, number one reason why did they got the championship after 36 years. I can't wait for the next season!!!!

Poetic justice. Its like watching Shohoku beat Kainan at last. Got this sense of satisfaction to see how the perrenial pushovers topple the perrenial favorites, the mighty Ateneo Blue Eagles. For years, we have been the talk of ridicule and much criticism, now we stand as Champions. For Woody Co, Marvin Cruz, Migs De Asis, Martin Reyes, Mike Silungan, Mike Gamboa and the previous UP Squads, victory at last.

the last 15 seconds gave me goosebumps as the UP crowd began cheering as if they knew they're going to take home the crown after so many decades of waiting. Even the commentators are speechless on how it was reclaimed. Kudos mga iskolar ng bayan! Kahit ito lang ipanalo natin para sa bayan!

What's surprising about this UP squad is that most of they're roster is still young and their championship window is still wide open.

Most thrilling finals I've ever watched. Like none of them wanted to give up. Very classic game! A great come back treat of UAAP to the community, school, students, alumni and basketball fans.

Happy for CJ Cansino. Even while playing with only 1 good knee (can't even stop Mamuyac's drive, with his mobility severely hampered @2:55), playing his first minutes in the Final 4, still nailed big shot after big shot for UP.

The shot of Cagulangan in the dying seconds of the overtime has cemented his name in the annals of UAAP history. It made me remembered a player name Ronnie Magsanoc who used to take the clutch 3 pointers for the Fighting Maroons when they claimed their first ever UAAP Championship in 1986. Proud to be a Maroon here.

Takeaways from UAAP season: -UP defense is next level, would love to see this extend to the next level(PBA, Fiba Asia, Fiba WC etc.) -Ateneo is beatable team especially when countered with an overloaded opponent. -a Gilas team comprise of UAAP stars from ADMU, UP, DLSU, and Abbarientos from FEU, can compete against the very best of Asia, at least. -coaches Tab Baldwin and Goldwyn can be a deadly duo when working together.

can still remember season 81 when we lined up for tickets just to watch upmbt matches. big led screens set up across the campuses to support the team. getting into final 4 was mega big deal back then but now we're champions. 🤧 so proud.

De Lasalle’s head coach will realize what JD’s worth now. Crucial shots made in dying seconds and a game hero. This boy will shine like he did in his high school years. Like he carried the green archer team to the vey top.

The long pass to Alarcon was from Lucero, not Diouf.:) I watched all of UP’s games this season. The good thing about UP is everyone stepped up when needed and their stingy defense is just so effective. Powerhouses like Ateneo or La Salle, who are very good in offense - one must beat them with very good defense. UP’s last game in 2nd round against Ateneo, Spencer’s 3-pointer to tie the game turned things around and eventually gave them the win, ending Ateneo’s 39 games winning streak. UP’s Final four Game 2 against La Salle: down 13 points in the last 4 minutes, Alarcon & Rivero slowly cut the lead and in the last 2 minutes, Tamayo lifted the team. Finals Game 1 against Ateneo - Lucero stepped up to cut the lead and Spencer’s 3-pointer tied the game, resulting into an overtime. Lucero and Rivero pulled away the Maroons for the win. Game 3 Winner Takes All - Cansino’s three pointer was clutch and crucial. It led the game to overtime. And of course, JD’s shots and assist to Diouf will be known as one of the best in UAAP finals history. Hats off to the Ateneo Blue Eagles - beating them in this series was a tall order. Belangel - you’re the man!!! I was from the era where the Maroons were always at the last place of the standings, so it was such a delight to see this “Atin’To” movement finally being fulfilled. ✊🏻

My predictions is right. U.p will win game three and it will be a thriller close game . And the big difference is coach monteverde hands down one of the best coach in the league now. And many schools and pba teams are eyeing the service of coach monteverde. In the past few years of u.p likes of Kobe. Jdl. Bros. Etc. If coach is thier coach for sure u.p will win that championship.
