I feel this expansion just give the feeling of a new game with the same base. You buy a expansion, but you have a new game. That's cool

I would've been happy with the same thing that would've make me happy about a Wingspan expansion: nothing but new cards. Sensei's Path is, in my opinion, still the best and most essential expansion - and it only contained new cards! I'm not afraid of trying new things but sometimes, for certain games, there's no need to reinvent the wheel.

I agree that the expansion changes the game. I felt like the original game got a bit samey with evenly matched players but Way of the Wind definitely added a new wrinkle in with the spirit and, with a little fenagling, you could fit it in the original box. That felt like a worthwhile expansion. Here, I feel like you're going have to port around two boxes and the game going to lose a lot of charm for it. I wonder if they are going to "big box" Onitama anytime soon?

I am a huge fan of Onitama, but this expansion is definitely not for me. I feel that this expansion denatures the original game. It removes the certainty of the decision making process, which is the essence of the game in my opinion. A big pass for me.

It sounds like a really cool expansion, I don't think I will be jumping to get it but I definitely would love to play this to get a better grasp of how this feels to play! Also, I am glad that they have an expansion because I think that the base game is perfect but it doesn't mean that I don't want there to be more weight that I could add to the game to spice it up. I also think this could add a lot more replayability to the game for me because I rarely feel the desire to play more than like 3 matches in a single sitting but this could potentially change that for me.

I personally like Critical Mass for the DT Essentials. Onitama is a nice game though.

I like to play Go and you could play it with just one color (and a referee who knows the colors), but I don't see why you would see that as "essential" and the same with this expansion. It adds things to the game and thereby actually takes away from it. Fun for a few plays perhaps, but I will pass on it.

this expansion doesn't really add anything worthwhile to the game IMO, one of Onitamas strong points WAS the near perfect information you had, when you lost it was because you got outplayed and not dumb luck...

I know this is an old comment but I play a variation of the expansion where the ninjas are just on the board and that seems more aligned with the feel of the base game while also adding something new.

From what I've read on BGG, and there is not much to read yet, this expansion is harming the feel of the game. Hearing Bryan's review and knowing this is a Dice Tower Essential game, I'm beginning to think that he was somehow forced, or otherwise paid, to give this expansion such a positive review as he did here. I think the expansion is cool too, but I also feel that the review is not completely honest and may be under the influence of Tom Vasel and/or his funding projects as well as ghe promotion of the whole line of this game, because it is in the Dice Tower Essential line.
