Quite a common interpretation of the theme, but the execution is absolutely stunning which makes it stand out so much. The music is a banger and the procdueral art and stuff is so cool. Great job man.

Thank you! I took way too long to come up with an idea for my last jam so I think this time I rushed and wasn't too creative, but I think I made up for it with fun gameplay and nice art :D

If you do decide to add an ending, I feel like an interesting thing you could add would be exactly halfway through the run (or maybe if your health was low the "round" before) you could add an upgrade that adds a phase 2 to the fight? Not sure what it would do but might as well put this idea out there.

by from what it seems, spikes is overpowered. It allows the player to run up and spam attacks to do lots of damage, later in game the player doesn't need to attack at all due to the diver HP cap and the player just being able to push the dive into a corner and shotgun the diver. maybe I frames or longer i frames could make the diver feel less push-able. but this is just a suggestion and your game was awesome to play!

Thank you for the feedback! I'm making a couple changes to some mechanics and hopefully fixing all the "cheese" strategies that are currently present. Dang, this is really cool! I'll give it a try later (assuming it'll run on not Windows). Something I'm quite interested in is the concept of setplay (from fighting games), where you damage an opponent by "checkmating" them with abilities, positioning, etc. Basically creating situations where there is little to no way of escaping. Seems like this game might lean into that quite a bit, given that your attacks are so strongly based on positioning, timing, etc. The enemy is fast and small, so the best way (I'm speculating) to hit them is by pushing them into catch 22 situations.

Setplay is a good way to explain the gameplay here. Since I didn't have much time for balancing though you can kind of cheese the diver in this version, but I released a new version that fixes plenty of issues and adds new abilities. More bosses probably not, that would take a substantial amount of design work and I wouldn't want each boss to not feel fully fleshed out. Amazing project, I love the mutation/augment feature, everything from the art, the game play, the UI, the tutorial, and the music all tied this game together and i think this is an amazing project! this is the first video I've seen by you but this is an amazing project and its pretty rare to watch a video in only 5 minutes so props to you/your editor too do in 2 days! Mate y'got a great twist there!! Maybe the idea of custom mutation would make the game more replayable over time 🤔 Loved the video!!!

@@TheDelightfulDev What I was thinking of when I said custom mutation is an extra mod menu, where you could put let's say i.e. Lua scripts which add new mutations to the game, for both Monarchtopus🐙and Diver🤿. This maybe could be extended to a choosing menu for the Monarchtopus🐙and the Diver🤿 which would maybe allow more characters/ more variants of the characters to be choosen like in Yomi Hustle for example. I think this feature would create a long term replayability to the game.

Try to join a game jam that way you have a deadline (can be a week or a month doesn't matter), make something simple at first. Look up brackeys on KZfaq, that channel helped a ton when I was just starting out. Make as many games as you can, the more you make the better they'll get! GL
