Hey abel! Right on! Yea… the rod is basically the price haha. If it weren’t for the price would I highly recommend the rod? Eh… I dunno. I really don’t like that it has only 8 guides and that I was getting my line to rub the blank… along with those other gripes. For the price though, I’m willing to live with those issues lol 😅. Hey yankee! Anything bfs oriented is fair game to be reviewed as well as topics that might be informative. I don’t know that I’m onboard with handing per se as I purchased this reel at the price that is listed on Amazon. For $36 it’s hard to say no but it’s definitely not a perfect rod by any means. I’d recommend it to anyone who is just starting out with bfs and doesn’t want to break the bank or to anyone who might want an affordable second setup to have on hand. Hey iron! Haha I see. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ratcheting reel hood before. It was a bit odd to see on a rod that they seem to be touting as a lightweight rod though and felt a bit out of place and maybe too large/clunky to be on a smaller bfs rod. @@BFSFISHINGCHANNELtry resting your pinky on top of the reel seat trigger and keep your index finger on the line. helps quite a bit for sensitivity. especially for jig fishing. are the rod ratings true to its specs? i see all the comments talking about how the rod doesnt load up correctly. maybe its suited for heavier baits?
@helotaxi
@helotaxi 3 ай бұрын
It's a copy of the Megabass Great Hunting and Tenryu Rayz reel seats. I don't mind the lack of blank contact because the blank is just such a small diameter that it would make an awkward grip. What I do mind is that the hood doesn't close all the way and leaves a gap with the reel installed. The higher end rods that it's trying to emulate have a rubber lined hood that allows you to tighten it all the way flush and not leave any slop because you're compressing the rubber.
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 3 ай бұрын
Hey iron! I would say the rod actually is able to cast lower but tops out sooner. My estimate would be the actual rating is something like 0.5g-8g. The rating is close but different imho. Hey helo! You know I have a spectra Rayz and I gotta say the sensitivity difference between the two rods is quite different for whatever reason. So I’m trying to find just the right amount of brakes so I can maximize my distance. Totally not the fault of the reel whatsoever. The cormorant is an amazing reel and probably the most capable reel imho of 2024 even outperforming JDM reels. Hope that helps explain all the backlashes. Cheers my friend!

The MagicBlade series are a more moderate action and I like the reel seat they used on those a lot better. The Blade looks like it's cut away so you're touching the blank, but it's just a sleeve inside the reel seat. That's the case with most cutaway reel seat actually, otherwise a different reel seat would have to be made for every different blank in a series and that's just not feasible. They use a standard sized reel seat and then build up the blank underneath it with some kind of spacer with an outer diameter to match the inside of the seat and the inside reamed to match the blank. Something akin to a high strength graphite foam is pretty common. or the simple and cheap way is to wrap the blank in masking tape in several spots to build up to the diameter of the inside of the reel seat. The first method works better when it's a big gap to fill. Either way the whole thing is slathered in paste epoxy during assembly. The clicker on the hood is likely to keep the hood from loosening since there isn't a rubber lining in it to compress and load the thread like a lock washer. I mentioned the MagicBlade series. Seems to be a good blank. Much more moderate than the MagicL. It has the potential to be a good treble hook rod...except, it has even fewer guides than the MagicL, which as you mentioned, could use a few more. I wish I could find the exact guides that they use so I could add a couple more myself.

Hey helo! Man you are dropping all sorts of great knowledge in the comments section! 🙌🙌🙌 appreciate the insight my friend! Yea I’m not sure how they constructed this handle but while the bite sensitivity is good it’s not as good as some of my other rods. It’s almost as if a lot of the vibrations are being dampened by the handle… quite unusual… As for the “clicking” reel hood… I’m not a fan… I much prefer the standard screw hood. The clicking design probably just adds more moving parts and is a novelty imho. I’d prefer a good friction fit over the clicking mechanism. Finally, as far as the low number of guides… I’m not really sure why these companies skimp out so heavily on these budget rods. I don’t know that adding an extra guide or two would drastically increase the cost of these rods but what do I know haha it just makes it harder to recommend these products and make them “home run” hits. Anywho, thanks so much for the info drops and comments! Cheers my friend!

Hey pacman! I agree the rod does feel quite fast but this rod is still somewhere between a F/MF. There is something to the rod not loading correctly as well as you mentioned. I think I briefly said it doesn’t feel like it casts far because of this. The distance graph seems to say that the rod isn’t too bad but there are better rods out there for distance. Finally, I totally agree with handle being long on the rod. This model isn’t a split grip but the long cork butt made handling a bit awkward at times and it kept rubbing my jacket making me think I was getting bites lol. Cheers my friend!

@@iamalemontree hey iam! I’ve really liked the Tsurinoya intruder rod but it’s kind of a stream trout rod. At $55 though it’s extremely well made and a steal imho and I’ve caught up to 17” bass on it. Makes for a really fun fight but they max out at 5’6”. If you want something a bit longer then you can look at the Tsurinoya dragon 2 rod, acehawk ag venom, or if you want something a bit beefier the Tsurinoya sagacity or fox hunting 2. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

Cheapest bfs setup ever, $5 lews classic pro from yardsale, $36 8.7g bfs spool, and this $36 rod, almost less than for the whole setup than what a good budget bfs reel costs, now I know the lews won't be as good but I rarely cast anything less than 1/10 without some sort of added weight anyways

What would be your recommended bfs rod? Looking to get a new rod thinking about getting this till i upgrade later on or might just go ahead and get a nicer rod. Wanna get something that doesn't feel whippy but casts nice and far. I target all species with ul so i don't want anything that can't handle a beating. Any recommendations are appreciated. I also relate with yiur gripe about the ammount of guides on the rod.

Also I saw your comment on the reel handle, some people like myself actually enjoy a longer handle since it adds a sort of a brace for harder fighting fish.

Hey Jose! Thanks so much for you comment and for sharing your thoughts! I gotta say that this rod actually casts sub 1g lures quite far. It seems to taper off a bit as you go up in weight a bit oddly. I think what might help me suggest a rod to you is what lure weight range you plan on using and what is the longest rod you’d consider. Cheers my friend!

Hey LABFS! Hahaha I mean looks can be deceiving right? 😆. Yea it’s definitely not a jdm rod but!!! And it’s a big but! It is made fairly well for a $36 rod, on Amazon, and performs decently. Definitely not perfect by any means but the price is low and for anyone just beginning or who wants a backup it’s hard not to recommend this imho. Cheers my friend!

It has enough sensitivity for jig fishing?
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 3 ай бұрын
Hey izya! I would say yes as the fish I caught that day were on soft plastics. One was on a weighted setup at around 2.5g and the other two on a weightless ajing worm weighing around 0.56g. Bite sensitivity is good but definitely could be better imho. Good enough though. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

Why information shown at Amazon and Aliexpress is different? At amazon says minimum lure weight goes to 1/32 ounce. And in Aliexpress says 1.5g. Pretty big difference. 1/32 ounce is 0.9 grams. Why is it needed to change numbers like that? Cheking the video to check the weight you used.
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 18 күн бұрын
Hey thewildside! Hm… that’s odd lol. I think the 1/32oz or 0.88g low weight range is more accurate as I was able to cast around that weight with the rod. Actually iirc I was able to cast my 0.56g lure. Hope that helps and cheers my friend!

Hey Yankee! Yea I would agree with that as you don’t want to stress lightweight rods too much. In fact some of my higher end jdm rods have come with instructions showing you not to high stick or have the rod above your head. Kind of interesting to see instructions provided with a rod. Anywho, thanks for sharing the tip and cheers my friend!

Hey fauzi! Haha yea definitely true. These aren’t really meant for distance as they’re shorter rods but I do like to show people their casting performance as it gives people an idea of how the rod might perform. Cormorant and ~30 windings with 7g? With Acura and 4g I would empty the 50m with C602UL ...such a difference due to the rod length?
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL
@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 3 ай бұрын
@@Rapha_angeln_und_tackle hey rapha! Yep the rod felt oddly overloaded at the 7.38g mark and so I didn’t feel like I was getting good distances with it. The sweet spot did feel like it was 4.95g for this rod but even then it didn’t want to go much farther than the 70ish ft I was able to cast. There are differences between the two reels as well as the Acura is a slightly wider diameter spool which will help it in casting higher weights longer distances but I dunno. The difference in length could very well play a large role in the distance differences. I’m not sure I’ve ever emptied a spool of 50m with a 6’ rod though. 7’ nearly with the loongze dc but even then I was not able to fully empty my spool. Out of curiosity, how are you calculating your 50m of line added to your reel? Cheers my friend!

There’s nothing more annoying than watching a video of watching someone count the turns on the reel . I like the videos and they have been very helpful, but I would rather hear an estimate on the distance that someone counting the turns on the reel.

@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL 3 ай бұрын
Hey voodoo! I appreciate the constructive criticism! Yea I agree that counting cranks is a bit on the boring side and am wondering if it would be better just to show the performance graph and maybe talk about anything of note during my casting tests. Ooc are there any specific things you like or want to see during rod reviews? I have a few things I’d like to show but am still trying to think of ways to show them to everyone. Again I really appreciate the feedback and will likely greatly shorten the distance portion of the video or just remove it and show the performance graph. Cheers my friend!
