The year is 1995 and Raekwon is gearing up to drop his debut studio album. Upon dropping an album he would be the third member of the wu-tang clan to drop a solo album after the group’s debut album. Method Man had the first solo album out of the group with him dropping “TICAL” in November of 1994. ODB would be the second one with him dropping “Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version” in March of 1995.
This left some pressure for Raekwon to be the third one to release an album, especially with the standards of being a wu-tang clan member being so high and how monstrous the group’s debut album ended up being.

This album is intoxicatingly addictive. Hearing the beat to Ice Water drop for the first time is something I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Once you settle into it, it sweeps you away and always leads you on an unbelievable ride. The highs, the lows, the everything in between this album depicts emotionally… genius stuff. Easily my favorite solo album of the Wu. 100/10.

By the time the Ice Cream single came out on Rap City I already had been rocking the Album. I loved the Ghostface Chef duo. Rae is my favorite MC period. After that, I bought the ODB album which is a classic and I bought Ready to Die. The South was late on the WuTang and Biggie by the time people start feeling them I already had those CDs. I didn’t like the booty bounce crap that South did and I am extremely thankful for the Geto Boys and eventually OutKast: But it’s was the Chef that held it down until the rap world start respecting the South. Thanks for the memories.

28:51 Nas verse on Verbal Intercourse was so great that even when Jay-Z was beefing with him. Jay-Z still referenced/bit the last part of Nas verse in his third verse from his song Never Change that's on The Blueprint album. This is def one of my fav albums and it was actually the first album that I got on CD (along with The Blueprint by Jay-Z). Amazing album and even tho I wasn't around in '95, this album is still somewhat nostalgic to me since I remember listening to it while riding my bike on the way to a summer job a few years back. Even this last summer I had it on heavy rotation. Idk why I always associated this album with the summer but yeah. I mean, it kinda makes sense if you look it from the perspective of OB4CL as the summer Wu album while Liquid Swords is the winter Wu album Great video as usual and I appreciate this "remaster" of your original video on this album

My favorite album of all time. Bought it in London when it dropped. Had heaven and hell on the fresh soundtrack then heard glaciers and criminology on Tim Westwood. Bought the tape then me and my cousin went to another store and I saw the CD had one extra song so I gave my cousin the tape and bought the CD on the spot. When I played it I could not believe how crazy it was. The beats and rhymes had me in a coma. Nas BODIED his feature too so hearing him was dope on there. Ice water was the song that shook my soul. The vocal loop fucked me up intensely. Rainy Dayz was a highlight too because of how operatic it was. I remember the review in HHC ended with them the album was so good it's scary. When I heard it I knew what they meant. Plus when I finally saw the movie the killer it made this album resonate even heavier seeing how rza based it around that movie. Thanks for this video. Really like the breakdown you gave this masterpiece.

I was just entering adulthood in Milwaukee about a year before moving to Vegas when this dropped. Had the purple tape and honestly that could play all the way through from Knuckleheadz to Heaven & Hell but some of my favorite tracks are Rainy Dayz, Guillotine, Verbal Intercourse and Wu Gambino's. It was almost impossible to outdo Tical and Return of the 36 but Only Built is one of the best albums ever in my humble opinion. Regardless of genre. Masterpiece

I was getting this album asap because i was such a Wu Nerd back in my younger days, i just bought every solo project no matter what. For me Wu Tang was quality and we had no reviews or internet back in the days. I remember getting the disc and nearly every track was together with Ghost so pure gold. One of the best Wu solo projects (Liquid Swords is still No. 1 sry Chef).

My love for this album was born when I heard Glaciers of Ice then Criminology.... I was hype!!! So me and my homie went to the record stores 2-3 times a week, from June until August when it finally was released. We didn't find Rae's joint right away but we found a whole bunch of dope shit. 95 was the bomb because of Wu-Tang, Mobb Deep, Krs1, AZ, Fat Joe, LL, Smif-n-Wessun + more

This album literally changed my life. When I heard Rza production on this album I was amazed inspired and it showed me the possibilities where you can take music. I would love to know what zone Rza was in. My brother actually stole the tape, we got in the car with my cousins and rode and listened. It was so quiet everyone was just blown away

It’s only fitting that the album starts with Rae proclaiming that perfection is what he’s striving for. The album is an absolute instrumental and lyrical masterclass. Some people prefer hot beats over lyrics or vice versa. This album has both. Its damn near flawless. And I don’t throw that word around lightly when it comes to music because it’s very difficult to produce a flawless product. Peace

Chef was always my favorite. When that purple tape dropped it was the soundtrack for the whole summer. It was played in every car, CD player or Walkman. I played that tape until it popped and I fixed it kept playing it. That album is a timeless classic and him and ghost together are great.
