ONLY declassified your DJI Mini 4 Pro for this 1 reason.

9 ай бұрынThere is only 1 reason why you should declassify your DJI Mini 4 pro and any other C0 drone, before 31 December 2023! And that is if you need to fly higher than 120 meters from the take-off point. You are still not allowed to fly higher than 120 meters above the ground level.

So i forgot to mention one situation to take into consideration. Say that you want to fly along the side of a mountain to look at the top of it and to fly as high as 119 m above that top. You are indeed allowed to fly there, but becuase the mountain (well a amall mountain) top is 130 m above the take off pont. You will not be able to fly up there with the C0 limitation... Actually there is no reason not to declassify Mini 4 Pro because all current drones that weight under 250 grams can be flown next year the same way C0 classified drones can be flown

@@HangingShoes I'm not sure about that but even if it's possible it won't solve this issue completely. Imagine if there is a mountain that you aren't able to climb. It is legal to fly up that mountain as high as you can see the drone but with the 120 limit you can't. Updating homepoint isn't the solution ecause you can't climb the mountain. The homepoint is updated according to the location of remote controller

Thanks for yet one more video straightening the mess out. Lots of drone Tubers base their videos on the latest drone launched, the Mini 4 pro. As I fly a Mini 3 pro, that can be set up to 500 meters, the 120 meter debate is interesting. Like You describe it, flying "up hill", is frequently used. Mountains, including trees, are often 100 meters high.... Flying safe, the limit is set to 100 + the wanted margin. The Mini 3 pro was bought in spring 2023. It's not classified but it conforms to the C0 rules. No label to remove. To avoid any 120 meter limit from DJI, updates will not be made until I know the 500 meter limit will still be there.

sorry for dumb question but from i understand it's all about take off point? if you already went up 500m (by hiking for example), you can take off at the top and go the same 120m UP without problems? if so, what the difference from what it was before (previous years)?

I recently bought my dji mini 4 pro on 10/28 , I updated to the latest firmware version before heading to Portugal to fly it. (I was unaware of the consequences 😅 I wish I could rewind and remove this update) I was unable to fly due to the C0 and battery plus weight restrictions and alerts that would come on the RC controller . I am back home in the US and dont have plans to return to EU to declassify it. Am I just out of luck now since it’s updated to the latest version ? I’m tempted to return it back to the store .

Jag har fortfarande kvar länken request higher altitute limit,och får fram qr-koden men jag vill inte upp högre än 120 meter, och vill kunna fortsätta flyga över folk :)

I just purchased the mini 4 pro plus bundle (December 2023) in the U.S.and the drone has no C label. I expected to see a CO label. I haven't even activated it yet. I'm concerned I will not be able to use it when I visit Norway in 2024. Or, would I now be considered a C1 A3 need to have the A1/A3 certificate and only "fly far from people". I can manage that but would be disappointed if I couldn't use my drone for landscape still photos. Thanks so much for your informative videos and appreciate your help.

If I may add to my comment. Would this drone then be considered unclassified and if I use the regular batteries (non-plus) when I'm in EU, then I would be under 250g and should be able to fly.

Most of the time I would fly under 120. Just like u said the reason. I would like 500 meter as an option only for Mountains. So should I remove it, and would be I able to fly in A1 without any problem? If I don’t reach in most places the 120 m limit.

What if you update your homepoint halfway up the mountain? And, basically, if I land after walking up 120 meters. and take off again I can fly up further?

Absolutely. It’s counting from the take off altitude.

Am I mistaken or isn't it the same maximum attainable height for both C0 and C1 categories (120m)?

I just found the answer in the official EASA site: "However, there is nothing to prevent a manufacturer from marking a drone less than 250 g as C1. In this case, remote pilots will be required to undergo the online training and they will be allowed to unlock the 120m. The training is considerably straightforward and it is really important to ensure that drone pilots are more aware of the responsibility they hold in their hands and the risks they might cause to other airspace users." The only "disadvantage" is that you need a license (paid or not??? not sure) for the C1 category which needs renewal every 5 years. Thank you!

@@TheodoreTs The license (i just got it) costs $40 bucks and gives you an online exam with a 24hr time limit to submit all 40 answers. And yes, you can keep the provided PDF file open while you do the exam (obviously, on your own pc). So there's no way you can fail it or get below 100% correct answers, lol. It's pretty much a non issue, just $40 and you get the license.

Updating the home point is not suddenly adjusting the drones currently indicated altitude to 0 meters or feet…. Just the longitude / latitude coordinates.

Getting my Air 3 in Thailand next month. I never heard about this that the DJI drones will be hardware-locked to 120m after 2024... I always assumed they had the height limit open in the settings (like EVERY youtube video of EVERY drone always shows in the settings)... Feels kinda pointless buying a drone if its literally hardware locked with no workaround to 120m. I mean for gods sake here in Sweden you can literally just phone up the nearest ATC tower and request a higher altitude (kilometers). But if your drone is literally locked, whats the point? Kiss every landscape shot goodbye. Kiss Iceland flying goodbye. Kiss mountain climbing goodbye. Kiss alps and norway fjord flying goodbye. (I'm not going to literally climb a mountain physically, thats why i have a drone) And what do you do when working professionally and your shoot NEEDS more vertical room without landing?? You just cant do the job then ?? I really really hope its not the case, at least if bought in Thailand.. Will report back (its also $300 cheaper there than in EU).

This "declassify act" needs to happen not because of EASA regulations, but because drone manufacturer has flawed/subpar software on its device.

You absolutely can… but why? You have to ask. Putting it into the C1 don’t give you any benefits.

@Avoletta-qs6nf That is possible… I think it can also depend on if the drone with plus battery is approved for C1 because it can theoretically be limitations that the authorities have not approved that combination. Will be very interesting to see if DJI will sell the mini drone together with Plus battery and see if there will be a difference. Currently as far as I’m aware, you cannot buy the plus battery in any of the EASA countries.

@@MK-Creator I only used 'Plus' batteries on my former Mini3 and now on the Mini4pro here in Italy (bought the original DJI ones from Aliexpress). The difference is massive in flight time (as expected) and wind resistance / overall maneuverability (nice unexpected bonus).

Even If you walk uphill while tracking: You could land and start again. Because you set the new starting point you are fine to continue. With a little luck you have to land anyway because of the need of changing the battery.

Of course. But what if you want to stay on the take off point. Fly along the ridge of the mountain up to the top…. And 119 m above the top of the mountain…

@@MK-Creator I know this situation because in december 2022 I‘ve been with my drone in a area in the Swiss Alps. I had the 120m limit restriction twice. It wasn’t blocked but I’ve set my Mini 3 Pro manually to this limitation. If you search you‘ll find situations like this. In my honest opinion as a hobbyist you’re not in need of exact this footage. In other words: The most of people downgrading their C0 never ever suffer this problem. Most probably you are sooner outside VLOS before the 120m topic kicks in. BUT there’s another thing. It’s not only the situation everywhere described, It’s more the cut of the ability to do other things. I‘m thinking here on a once-in-a-lifetime shot over the fog. You need to rise higher and It’s simmilar to drive to fast during a takeover on a highway…
