The military independence for Europe do make a good, to be serious for a second. On one hand, the U.S. should be there for its allies and be dependable and reliable. But on the other hand, our allies should not put all their eggs in one basket and see us as the only thing ensuring their existence should they ever come under fire. Because what will they do if we ever collpase, or are too hung up in our own conflict somewhere else? I know it's easier said tham done. But either we're all screwed because we got pulled too far in different directions trying to pick up other countries' slack, or we just say "screw it!" and focus on our own thing and let whatever happens happens. Again, we need to be there for our allies and be a reliable and dependable partner and ally ourselves. But we all also need to be self-sufficient and independent ourselves so we can all stand on our own two feet and pull our full weight and be a real force with our own contingencies should the main safety net fall
