I left Hawaii at 8 years old. Got to go back and find places away from the tourist traps to embrace island style again

I went to culinary school and Uncle E can sure chef it up! He is so knowledgeable.. and you too Bra. He turns your catches into masterpieces. The smile on his face when you taste his food says it all

Man I miss that smell and the smell of the ocean doesn't smell like the ocean anymore the air used to be salty and smell of ono limu 😢😢 thankful I got to experience that and have that memory! I recently visited your beautiful island and explored the waters. I had my pole spear, but the spirits told me not to poke them (the waves told me too). So epic, man. What an amazing experience that must be to spend time there learning from uncle and having an amazing meal right out of the water. I’m living on Maui trying to learn how to spear, what and where to take, how to prepare all by myself with no guidance…it’s a lot to try and learn without those lessons being handed down. Enjoy it, and happy holidays!

I remember as a young man, hiking out onto a peninsula at La Peruse bay on Maui. We took some LSD and things were intense as we had to wait for the swell to rise before we jumped into the beautiful aquarium. After a few hours of the most amazing snorkeling we swam to shore.

I have seen those Microsnesians in Hawaii spearfishing and climbing for coconuts and the breadfruits. Those ppl are some some wild species. The Marshallese, Ponapeans and the Kosraens, they sure know the ocean. They always go for them reef fishes.

I absolutely love these videos it reminds me of when i was a kid at my best buddies native fish camp here in Alaska we would hunt deer, catch salmon, halibut, crab, shrimp, etc then go forage for some cool plants like fiddle heads or wild chanterelle mushrooms or beach asparagus like the stuff you were picking. Anyway just love it man i love living off the land like that just feels natural.

I love the Hawaiian culture, but I only saw the city culture living in Waipio and Maili Point. This video is the country living which I was very curious to see but sadly, never had the chance. The Hawaiian pidgeon reminds me of working at the FDC, and when I'd "Talk story" with the locals. I miss "da 808."😊

I really dig what you're doing!! I love to fish as well, but I use a rod & reel. Im female & I go fishing with my sister a lot. Our dad taught us to fish when I was 3, and she was 5. He taught us on homade bamboo poles!! When I was 6, he told me that if I wanted to fish, i had to learn how to clean/gut & scale the fish. At 1st, I didn't like doing it because it was just really gross, but now it's second nature, and I have no problem doing it. I've been fishing for 55 years, and I will keep fishing til I take my last breath!! Of course we only catch what we eat!! Thanks for sharing your videos!! 😊❤✌️

Very good man. My grandparents came straight from Italy and I don’t know why but they never really taught me all the Italian traditions… maybe because they thought since we were American or whatever. But anyway it’s good to see when the heritage is passed down properly. The way it should be.

I love the combination of English and Hawaiian when talking takes me a second for my non-Hawaiian brain to click to the words you are saying sent it's been 5 years sent, I spoke it or really listen to a conversation of it. thank God I listened to my ex Hawaiian girlfriend through the 3 years of being with her it's paying off. 1 thing I can say is God I miss real Hawaiian food, it's crazy hard to get something remotely close to it on the mainland unless you know native Hawaiians or Hawaiians that bring recipes over. We need more Uncle E for sure, make me wish i can jump through the screen and grab a bite.
