I'm married to a Filipina, and we try to return to her home once a year so she can visit the family. We usually stay a few weeks up to a few months at a time. In the 13 years I have been traveling to and from the Philippines, I can say this about its people; they are some of the most hard-working, giving, generous, and friendly people I have met out of all the places I've been. And I have been to several places. I have traveled the entire continental US (48 States), Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, Canada, Mexico, and S. Korea. What I have gathered in my travels is that the people with the least in life turn out to be the most generous. Go figure.

I've been in the Philippines last year and I'm amazed by their kindness, they let you try some foods for free without asking in return, they are just so happy making new friends from other country, it makes me feel like I'm part of their family, I hope I can go back to the Philippines ☹️, I have never felt loved the way I felt when I was in the Philippines. Too bad you can't see them smile anymore because of the pandemic, it is required to wear a facemask

That's not entirely true. When a Filipino smiles, it's authentic, because you can still see the eyes smile as well even as the mask covers the mouth.

I'm really enjoying your channel and especially how you're getting deep into each culture you come across. That's important, since most of us might never get the chance to do what you're doing. @@dennistoribio1813 Yes, Juneau is a beautiful location and we do get a lot of cruise ships, so I'm sure you've been here before. I've lived here for 30 years, about half my life so far because it's such a great spot for being on the ocean, for fishing and hunting too!

I am a Filipino native I have never been to the states but have some relatives in San Diego CA and Orange county and I never knew there were still a significant Filipino community in AK. That would be some surreal thing to see as we are tropical people hahah Its like we are everywhere i the world. Ice Filipinos hahah

Especially in the country side. They offer you what they have like coconuts, fruits, coffee, And lunch. And they speak english and not having a hard time speaking with them.

I couldn't be any prouder of these guys. Normally, they didn't finish school but they build their own boat and install all those mechanics like a real pro. They are best kept heroes of the Philippines. Legendary 💪💪

Thats because building boats is a thousand year old tradition in Philippines. That tradition led to the expansion of Austronesians dominating the Pacific territories which also led to the maritime silk road.

Their boat is so well organised and tidy, especially for an unannounced visit like this! I love the colours and awesome style of this boat. Carrying a fleet of small boats on outriggers like that is awesome. Really friendly locals too. Nice video and thanks for sharing.

Im a filipino and while reading the comments tears sunddenly run down my eyes, its a good feeling that other nationalities appreciated so much what filipino cultures are, thank you for appreciating guys..., yes we are filipino and we are so proud of what greatest gift God has given to us "A warm heart" and thats what made us more resilient. I’m surprised this beautiful ship can compete against the Chinese fleet hovering up all the fish in Asia. India, Malaysia and Vietnam seem unable to stop them stealing our fishes.

They used cyanide. It destroyed the coral. I know as I used to catch them when they fished illegally in their neighbouring country. Always remember, never trust fishermen, either from big companies or smaller ones. They don't care!

Filipino fisherman's/seaman one of the nicest people in the Philippines they were out for 3week or a month and leave their family so that they could feed them. They're hardworking Pinoys.

Filipinos may be poor in a money sense, but what they show in there kindness, hospitality, love, family, and many other things there not poor. They are the most beautiful-est people i have ever met my wife is Pinay and is from Mindanao, when we go over there for holidays I live as the Filipino people do, no flash hotels we live at the farm very basic but I love it. KASI NGA IBAT IBANG LANGUANGE NILA. bisaya is a language. visayas is a place. 2 different things. binisaya is HOW bisaya people speak. (mostly common in visayas area) waray waray is HOW waray people speak. ( MAINLY by abaknon which are people in samar) and lumalayo ka na sa topic. ang sabi lang ng commenter, people there speak 3 language, and the next commenter said its should be 4 because depending on the area, people are speaking their more native language, in this case, waray. again... waray is a languange, not a dialect. if it was a dialect, then a bisaya SHOULD understand if a waray would talk to him/her in sentences. but as i said.. a bisaya would not understand BECAUSE IT IS ANOTHER LANGUAGE. language pinag uusapan dito, not ethnicity.

This is one of the most fascinating sailing videos I have ever seen. I lived in Manila for a couple of years in the early '90s, and love the Philippines. But I had never been exposed to these fishing operations-- they are out of sight of the landlubbers like me. You did a fantastic job of describing all of the operations and showing the technical details of the "mother ship" and the small boats. It was really interesting to see where a lot of the fish, that I ate while living there, came from. Kudos!

Brilliant video. I loved it. I have visited Phillippines many times first going there in 1982. It's a wonderful country. Filipinos are well recognised as first class seamen and the local craft are crazy fabulous. Practicality ahead of design. The smaller boats are called 'banka' or 'pump boats' and are ranked according to how many cylinders the engine has. Astonishgly fast. Trying to be smart I once paid a fisherman to take me on his banka from Bohol to Camiguin Island, a distance of about 45 miles. Quite an experience surfing for hours over an 8 foot sea and I was more than impressed watching the boat driver weaving through the troughs until he saw a good wave and then up we'd pop on to the crest to surf like crazy. Yes Filipinos.... one of the world's better people. Hoping one day the political troulbes there may be solved. Fingers crossed. (Addicted to the place... married to a Filipino too. :) )

Keep in mind that Philippines is an archipelago and its people have been sailing the vast oceans for thousands of years! It’s not as if it’s ingenious? But it’s in their blood! They know how to sail the ocean more than average westerners!!

@@arkandrada3305 I agree...but your going way back I just jumped a couple of generation to the malay race because the madagascar race is remotely found now in remote areas where there is little to NO mixing of different ethnicities at all because of isolation, compared to what it is now in southern Luzon.

Another fun fact, if they're speaking in their native tongue it doesn't immediately means they are speaking Tagalog/Filipino. Filipinos have different language and dialects for every region, in short Filipinos won't understand each other, only if we speak Tagalog or English.

About 25 percent of all sailors on commercial ships all over the world comes from the Philippines. There are so many perhaps because the Philippines is an archipelago and Filipinos have English as one of their two official languages apart from the fact that they are hardworking, good natured and easy to get along with.

Nice experience, I enjoyed watching your video. It brings a lot of childhood memories, I grew up in a small fishing village in the Philippines specifically in Mindanao and now lives in the U.S. I remember how much enjoyed riding those outrigger’s it’s like a filipino version of roller coaster when you’re riding on it on 5-10ft waves. When we were young my dad bought a medium sized outrigger and fitted it with a 25hp engine boy that boat feels like it’s barely touching the water. May you two have a safe voyage and enjoy.
