Depends whats your position. Sure, Messi could dribble past 5 defenders but Haaland can score a goal having 3 players on himself. So Messi was certainly a lot better in many aspects (ball controll, dribbling, playmaking, crosses, passes, you name it). But you can already see that Haaland is faster than Messi, has better short range shots (and certainly a lot stronger; Messi seems to be better in distance shots though), insane position anticipation, INSANE physicality which makes him already outstanding forward. So ye, Haaland might become the greatest CF in history. You cant say "Messi is overall better than Haaland" because Messi is worse than Haaland as pure nr9. But Messi isnt just a nr9. And ye, Messi is/was more crucial for his teams. That being said, todays City seems on pair with 2011/2012 Barcelona (at least for now). Imo City HAS TO win CL this year.
