@@ellugerdelacruz2555 To be perfectly honest, I completely forgot her. Even if I did, I still prefer Superman & Lois' take on Onomatopoeia since she can manipulate all forms of sound while Silver Banshee largely only has the sonic scream and a magical advantage over Superman.

One of the things I realized about her mask is that it is referencing a science demonstration for sound waves. It's an experiment where a black board is placed over a speaker. Salt is spread on the board and when different sound frequencies are played through the speaker, the salt changes into different patterns corresponding to the sound waves. It's a very cool way to visualize sound waves and adds an amazing little detail to the character design.

In Worm, there's a similar character called Screamer. Her whole schtick was partly this direct action stuff, partly counterintel type stuff, and partly just making people think they're having a different conversation to drive them to kill each other. Main thing is she didn't need to be in the room or use her mouth to make the sounds. If you're in range, you're at risk, and the range is half a city.

Although, if they weren't a "relatively normal" looking person without the mask, how could they function normally, when they're not blasting people away? Goes to buy groceries and a zillion cops and Superman suddenly appear, surrounding the supermarket.

It’s not just the mask it’s the body motion at first the sound came out but later she would actively mover her body into the scream or would tense up which implies it’s more effort on her end vs when she first showed up just standing their implies power by having her effortlessly scream

Onomatopoeia in the comics' gimmick of saying the sound effects of his weapons was cool, but it's straightup impossible to pull off in live-action (or any medium aside from comics with speech bubbles) because a dude saying "woosh", "shing", and "blam" is substantially lamer when said out of a human's voice in live-action than it does in comic books. I think this is an excellent and creative interpretation of "supervillain who imitates sounds", it's a creative adaptational choice.

This version of Onomatopoeia was VERY different from the comic version. In the comics: Onomatopoeia was male and had no powers, merely vocalizing sound effects rather than speaking. Also I can’t help but make the joke that this version of Onomatopoeia is what Store clerks hear when speaking with a Karen.

Love the concept of this version hate the execution They did right with the gunshots but She just turned into silver banshee They could have been more creative with her new powers Like she could have said boom and a invisible explosion happens Mimic the sound of a truck crashing and "Invisible" truck hits superman (Semi-transparent to us) She could say fwoosh-crackle And an invisible fire apears Her power could have been materializing Sound constructs that mimic the properties of actions and objects Jojo's part 4s Echoes act 2 style Or even part 7's sand/soundman

I was thrown off when she was just a 2nd Canary. Edit: Scratch that, Green Arrow was his first appearance. We need his comic version as a live action.

There have been a few sonic voice powers in shows/movies and I always thought it was a little lame how they represent it but that changed when I saw this in the show her powers are very cool and they give it so much imagination and range she doesn't just scream at people like other characters with this power the sound design and visuals are very good and her costume is also very cool and even a little creepy

Also just like others pointed out, i dig her mask being her face even more. Showing that she's different, like mysterious beings rather than basically another banshee. Making her more ominous. You could even use the liberty of her being "non-human". A dimensional being who is stucked on earth and is dying bcs of incompatibility with the dimension Or simply experimented human

I wish they had let Peia stick around longer, she was a great character and she had probably the coolest sonic screaming powers ever. It's obvious they decided to just expand the role of an guest character for an episode, and the guest happened to be Peia. They always do that for the tv shows.

@@spinosaurusstriker It’s not really, sure there are characters that weaponize sound, but it’s mostly just screaming really loud, while she manipulates sound of all kinds. Using a preexisting character, with a standing Trademark, who is themed around sound, and doesn’t work in live-action, is just smart branding.

@@stormerxfb Any time other super powered allies show up, it gets complicated because you have to tailor the story in a way that validates their continued existence as help.....look at EVERY other superhero show that introduced additional characters, it doesn't work well. John works because he's not on par with anyone.....he's basically a non factor. I'm gonna trust the one show that got it right, compared to all the shows that got it wrong.

I haven't seen a series fail because of this. John is the perfect example. Anyway it's just that we both have different opinions, just accept that mine exists even if you don't like it and stop trying to change it 😁😁

I feel like this is a good concept for the character but executed poorly. They could’ve gotten creative with the whole attack by mimicking sound effects like the gun sfx thing, but instead they just have her be a sonic screamer most of the time. Lame.

@ravenlich1299 What he means is, look at the first scene compared to the rest. The guy dies to bullets that don't exist. But after that and the followup confusion of Superman, she doesn't use the power in any interesting ways, just a constant reverb that, for all intents and purposes, is just a sonic scream. As an example, those sounds in the second part of the first clip. Imagine if they did a similar thing, causing people to be killed in explosions without an explosion happening. Basically making it reality manipulation by way of sound rather than just sonic reverberation.

whish instead of the weird soundwave we would hear actual things. Like when someone gets hit through a wall she could make the sound of a truck or a train hitting the target. There is something there but the loud wavy soundeffect just covers everything interesting up

Weird sound waves are equally as interesting, especially if they based them on actual sound waves that could potentially achieve what she does in each scenario if they were strong enough. At least one such case, with the high pitched ringing in the laptop scene. Making truck sounds for a guy to get launched sounds very oddly lame and comical honestly.

Hollywood is not creative with their powers. I think only Ant Man had me think that's creative! But that too got lost in Quantumania. It's feels like all just end up in energy blast. Compared to that Anime have better application of powers. The Coffin In Sky in MHA is pretty genius use of powers.

@@Vor567tez I think its due to budget concerns - like its easier to spam the same sound/visual than try and be unique each and every time. Environmental interactions, unique sounds or visuals, all take more money - which can be rough on a show who's gimmick relies on sfx budget Think about how early or low budget shows would just recycle the same "uses ability in a area without a background" or like how Star Trek literally basically had static props that they cut between and stuff

For a character usually meant to work only in comic books that because a "basic" screamer kind of super power, this shit was done masterfully. The intense bass, the shaking tones; it's a really great sound design, almost JoJo-levels of creativity I'd say.

Yes but when Supermans son got hurt it was amazing how he just sorted it out in seconds which means with all those attacks on him he was still trying to find a way not to kill them. Because he could have easily used his heat vision right at the beginning of the fight

I think that maybe the skill set changed with the medium changing so more powers became available, before there was only text to represent/convey sound but now there's a physical soundwave emitted since now there's actual audio

I was such a fan of this version that when a comic accurate version appeared in Batman: Caped Crusader I was underwhelmed lol. Such a cool and unique power and just looked cool as well. My one issue is when she takes off the mask and does her power she looks a little silly lol

I think it would'a been better if they stuck to the whole "saying the sound" the mundane and silliness gains a sort of new layer of scary. Sort of like hiro from inuyashiki.

Onomatopoeia sounds similar to Ονοματοποιεία, the process of making a word/words that imitate the sound(s) they describe

Wish they would've kept up with the "sound effects he makes happens idea" kinda like the speech guy from JJk or Nico Minaru from Marvel. They did the awesome gunshots thing at the beginning then just devolved her to be a lame Black Canary.

Really disappointing how she very quickly devolves into just screaming at people, the gunshots at the beginning were a super cool interpretation; and that as soon as the mask comes off it's forgotten about, just obliterates any menace she had and just makes her looks ridiculous.
