I keep my rat 2 with my nice knife collection. It has more than earned its place among my pm2, 940, griptilian, and my ultratech

The Rat 2 scales are made of nylon 6, which I believe is what's used in Glock handles.

I like both very much, particularly since I picked up the D2 version of the RAT 2.

I love the Delica 4 (and Spyderco in general) but as far as value, theirs nothing even close to the Ontario Rat 2. I just finally bought a Rat 2 within the last year and I absolutely love it. It's a $30 knife (AUS-8 version) that competes and compares to knives 2-3 times the price. And that's with the AUS-8. The D2 is even better and brings even more value.

Do you still feel that the Delica is worth a $100 ish more then the rat now that you can get it in D2?

I find myself in agreement if I could get a pinky more of purchase on the rat 2 it would be golden,I love that crisp fast blade deployment as well..my delica4 has been around a long time the closest knife I have to replacing it is my native 5 lightweight it's really hard to decide between those two..

Since the Zancudo is currently available in D2 steel and the Rat 2 isn't, how about a comparison between the $35 D2 Zancudo and the $66 Delica 4?

The rat handle is not g-10.

Esee Zancudo is now (Feb 2017) available with D2 steel and carbon fiber G10 handle for $48 American. D2 steel and FRN handle scale for $35.Just sayin'

Now that the RAT 2 is available in D2 (after this vid was made), the Rat 2 slaughters the Delica for edge holding and overall value. If the Delica doesn't get a steel upgrade soon, I reckon it's days are numbered. Way overpriced for what it is in todays market. Excellent comparison.

It seems this size knife costs more than it should, maybe due to the demand. I have found Enduras on sale cheaper than Delucas, which never seems to be on sale. The Delica is a bit better in materials and design than the RAT II, but the RAT series hits above its weight, to use a boxing term. I do maintenance on my knives, so rust has not been an issue for me. I wonder if the Delica liners are as corrosive resistant as the VG10 blade.

i have the rat 1 and it's a pretty hefty blade. i want a delica now. hopefuly your country will ease up on the gun laws as well.

Nice review mate! I have a Kershaw Dimension and I love that knife heaps but the delica 4 is my edc... so reliable in every task I do daily... always cool to hear of other knife nutz here in Australia... keep up the good work. 😊

Which has a better edge retention, the Spyderco VG-10 or the improved Ontario Rat D2? My edc is a Delica 4 in ZDP-189 because I was dissappointed with an Endura full serrated in VG-10, too soft in my opinion but I have never had a plain edge in that steel, definitly not enough for keeping sharp the dentations. Maybe a full serrated CPM S30V blade could be right.

I feel a little bias toward spyderco in this review . A liner lock compared with a back lock ?the back lock is stronger .the liner locks tend to pop off under spine wack sort of pressure . If the rat 2 had the g lock like the g727 it would be stronger than the back lock ! The blade shape of the rat 2 is slightly more useable ( the blade fits into smaller places ) The g10 is better handle material ( frn being bendy ) So the only thing better about the spyderco is the lock So the rat 2 is a higher value knife at a lower price than the spyderco ?

nice comparison! I have a rat 1 and endura. delica on the way! I like the spyder better for edc. but the rat 1 I think is better suited for a belt/sheath knife. both great for sure tho! thanks!

the fact that the rat 2 (27 American dollars) is often compared to the delicate 4 (66 American dollars) should tell you something. I own both and think the rat 2 crushes the delica in every category besides blade steel. The fact that I can buy 2 rat 2s and a days lunch for the price of a delica is just icing on the cake. btw I wear XL gloves, to quote Steve Jobs, lmao, (I hate apple) ur holding it wrong.

For the same price as the Rat 2 you can get a Byrd Meadowlark 2. Which is even better ergos than the Delica (imho), same blade shape, lesser steel. Having bought several Byrd's and a couple Ontarios, the Ontarios have pretty much the best build quality available in that price range. The Byrds have the best ergos. Pick which is more important too you. Or, like me, buy both and still not know which is king of cheap EDC knives. --Oh edit to add. If your hands are medium or smaller the ergos on the Rat 2 are quite good, maybe 8/10 to the meadowlarks 9.5/10

Once the Rat 2 was in D2 it wasn't even a close contest anymore, and if you're going to pay more for a sprint run of the delica the Chaparral is a better option in build, steel and price. The delica just really dated and feels cheap for its price even when this video was made, now in 2020? The delica however is basically what I use as a loaner knife now.

I love the rat 2. Spyderco just always seems bulky in the pocket and fragile. Had many spyderco knives break a tip while in the pocket. If I had to choose one for edc I'd go with the rat 2.
