Wood fired pizza had become a tradition at our off grid cabin. I built a simple oven while we were building the cabin but it's time to replace it. This project was really fun but does require some effort. Using a gym ball as the base makes forming the dome very easy, the perlite concrete is a good insulator and made the finished oven (relatively) light. The results of our first attempt at pizza were very encouraging. The oven came up to temp quickly and we were cooking pizzas in 2 min or less. If you try this design you may want to tile it or otherwise pretty it up. If you build one let us know in the comments.

You killed it! Just wanted to know how the dome is holding upto the heat. mine cracked after a few uses, even after doing several increasing intensity curing fires.

Hi, great video, thank you for sharing! Do you find this oven works better than the previous brick stack oven and would you change anything if you made it again?
@OntarioLakeside
@OntarioLakeside 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. This oven is far better than the previous one we built. Holds heat longer and takes less wood to get it up to temp. One thing I would change is I would raise the interior space between the oven and chimney. My oven tends to allow smoke to exit out the opening.

Was there a reason you did the brick work AFTER the oven was on the table???

Why didnt you just use the jigsaw to cut those round corners on small pieces of wood i atead of table saw?

You reminded me of Richard Dreyfuss in Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind building that mound! I guess the reason you couldn't build it this way in Take 1 was that you had to wait til your son grew up strong enough to help you wrangle it all the way up there, eh? Smart thinking!😉

Great project! What did you end up using for the chimney? It looked different at the end than when you started.

Thanks, I used a short piece of metal tubing, if I were doing it again I would use a piece of clay pipe.

Can you please tell me why the chimney should be at the exit and not in the middle or at the back? mvh sweden
@OntarioLakeside
@OntarioLakeside 3 жыл бұрын
if you have the chimney at the top of the dome the hot air will escape. Having it lower down traps the hottest air and the dome reflex it onto the cooking area.

Great little build 👍. Is it still holding up ? Any cracks ?
@OntarioLakeside
@OntarioLakeside 3 жыл бұрын
I had to patch a crack by the chimney. I think the metal expansion caused it. I would use a clay pipe next time.

Why did the wood cost so much? I know the 4 x 4's can be a little bit more, but $115 seems like a lot. My lumber yard would've sold it for a lot cheaper I think.

Did your cement crack since you did not use refractured cement.?
@OntarioLakeside

The dome did not crack, I did have a crack near the chimney. The expansion of the meatal caused it. I would use a clay flue in the future
