Hello😊 We are a family of 4 and we are thinking to move from Sweden to Jacksonville. I wonder if is it a good place for a family with small kids? Is it safe?Does it have good schools, good hospitals, good jobb opportunities, good standart and quality of living? Does snakes and aligators appears everywhere like around the houses or in the park roads? Please if you have a friendly advice for me,I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

This is a wonderful video showcasing the things to do in Jacksonville. A lot of people don’t get out and experience these things & then say there’s nothing to do 😂 All though we are experiencing rapid growth affecting the housing market.. we are growing with even more things to come. Hopefully we can find a great balance!

@9:00 min. Ponte "Verde" beach.. I need to know this green salsa beach you speak of is located... I've lived in jacksonville for over 30 years and never heard or seen a placed called Ponte Verde. The corresponding video playing looks like Ponte Vedra, the historic and well known beach/golfing destination.

I think as bad of a reputation Jacksonville has it's not all bad. If you're relocating I say that the southside of town is a bit safer and stronger in terms of things to do and finding a community. Its as safe as any city in America can be. The school system is not great compared to neighboring counties like St. Johns and Clay, but has its highlights especially when your kids get to high school there's a magnet school program you'd apply to and your kids would have a chance at higher level classes while in high school and go into the american AP program or International Baccalaureate program. Both are fine and get college credits for kids. Elementary school wise most schools are about the same in education levels and quality. The same is with middle schools unless you send your child to schools meant to feed into magnet high schools. (James Weldon Johnson, Darnell Cookman, Lavilla School of the arts) ADDITONALLY Duval county (Jacksonville) is a school choice district so you can search online what are the highest rated schools and have your kid enrolled into these schools over your normal neighborhood school. There are some private schools which are decent, Trinity, Bolles, and Bishop Kenny are all notable. Hospitals here in Jacksonville are great, I've never had a bad experience and we have several in the area and as kids go into middle school and highschool there are programs with these hospitals for them to get experience and see how the medical field works. Quality of care wise, they're amazing as far as my family knows. Job Opportunities are a bit of a mixed batch, you can find work in most fields in Jacksonville but the market is quite saturated. Standard and Quality of living is what you make of it. Jacksonville has some wonderful things to do here and communities. It has one of the largest park systems in the U.S. meaning you can visit different wildlife preserves no matter what side of town you're on. The people are mixed depending on where you're at- there is not a specific culture in the town I could point out and describe but it is not unkind. On the wildlife, snakes and gators are very normal in Florida and it would not be surprising if you saw a few in your time here but they're not as big of an issue as you'd think. Maybe a small gator in a pond behind your house or a non venomous garter snake in a bush. Wildlife is normal and most are more scared of you than you are of them. Rare to encounter them on a regular basis unless you're near a wooded area/ near a preserve. I hope this helped a little bit, I am just a teenager however and my advice should be taken with a grain of salt. School wise I'd advise you to do your own research- I am an advocate for public schools but charter schools ( a mix between public and private) are an option but tend not to be much better than their neighboring schools. A great charter school I'd say is Baymeadows over some of the others nearby like Charger or Westside. I hope you enjoy Jacksonville for what it is, though I will say walking is about nonexistent in America and especially in Jacksonville. Older neighborhoods that are decent like Five Points or Avondale would be great if that is something you'd like however. Southside I'd say is a safer bet for opportunities and things to do with the family. As a kid who has grown up on the westside but has gone into a magnet high school with peers who were on southside- their schools seem just a bit better in quality. I know my response is quite rushed and not the best written but I'd be happy to reply to any other questions. Additionally Jacksonville has a subreddit which could be great to ask questions on.

You left out Treaty Oak. And you could brush up on your pronunciations. Timucua for instance. And no mention of any fishing at all. There are all kinds of fishing, salt and fresh water.

That's funny. Last time I walked around Jacksonville Beaches area there is a "help wanted" every block. The thing that makes a job "great" or "not great" is what you put into it. What you really wanted was the "night life" and that's obvious. There are plenty of things to do in Jacksonville. Just not what YOU want to do. I lived in the Miami area before, too. Glad I left.

Uncle Sam stationed me there, I'm from Southern California. The primary reason for so few pedestrians is that the humidity ranges from 60% to 80%, with ambient temperatures hovering around 85 to 95. 'Reminds of the sweltering conditions in Central America. 'Second reason is most 'good ole boys' don't mind having a beer gut that resembles the 'Good Year'🎈blimp😅.

Alot of people want to tour plantations including many black people. It's a sad part of history but if you are a history buff even the offensive side of history is a place to see. Everywhere you go there is history including your modernized neighborhood has a story behind it you may never know if it was good or bad. Not trying to change your mind because there are things that I consider weird this isn't one of them but all the plantations that still remain in the southern states have tourism all the time and aren't short of people wanting to get a glimpse of the past.
