Another excellent repair Bill. It’s weird that Hornby make spare motors for this but make it damn awkward to remove the brass! More please. Thank you

Pretty sure this is Hornby Catalogue number R3371, a Railroad LNER Mallard. I bought a boxed example on ebay and it was sold explicitly because the motor was dead. When it finally arrived, the motor would arc, flashing sparks around the commutator. The valve gear motion and wheels moved freely and without tight spots. The motor just failed. It was my first time removing a brass gear and flywheel from a motor so that the experience was real, it was fun, it wasn't real fun. That being said, I found a replacement motor on ebay and it was well worth repairing! Though I wish I had waiting a while to see how you did it, as I had to file down some damage I did to my brass gear. Thanks for another video and repair Bill! From the USA!

Well diagnosed Bill, it's running well now. The extraction and fitting of the worm and flywheel looked tricky though. My favourite Mallard livery too👍

Well done Bill! another good informative video, the ammeter picked up the faulty motor well. I really will have to invest in one.

Hi bill another good video. Just a thought if you put the brass parts into hot water the expansion would help them to fit easily. The layout is taking shape.

When I had to replace the motor in my FS I found heating the flywheel up slightly on the gas cooker made it easy to push on obvs have to be careful of plastics

Hi Bill, yet again another great video, famous last works “ should be just a quick service” A4 always looks good storming around with rake of teak coaches. How many gear pullers does one need to have to hand? Now you have a bespoke custom made just for that job. Always enjoy the service videos, it’s the simple little things you do to achieve the end result. Excellent as always. All best Marc from Leighton Buzzard

Where would modelers be without "Peter's Spares". I learnt a new word "fluffage". Bill and Janet from California

Another great video as usual. I would like to know what the cost of the replacement motor was. What did Peter spares charge you?

Where did you get your wheel pullers from?

Hi Bill, Was there a specific reason why you changed the orientation of the worm wheel when refitting it to the new motor?

I've got a Hornby Mallard 4468 set for sale, only problem is it's live steam, and it ain't cheap. You've got to be serious if you're running live steam.

Bill, you can warm up the brass parts before refitting. With heat they will expand a little allowing for easier refitting. Just a thought.
@AndrewPennell292 ай бұрын
But it expands in all directions, making the hole smaller. Actually better to cool it down.
@DaiElsan2 ай бұрын
@@AndrewPennell29 you've never fitted pulleys to shafts then. Everything expands from the centre. Try expanding a circle inwards.

"Fluffage"? That sounds a VERY SEVERE INFECTION. I'll steel that word, if'n you don't mind? I have 2 A4 locos. To be honest, I prefer it in the BR Green, rather than the Garter Blue.
