Thank you Tarun for another interesting review. And I'll say again your comparisons of the product being reviewed to similar products is most useful. Turning to the speaker question, I really don't care for bright, forward sounding speakers. But too much warmth can also be bad. What I really appreciate is soundstage depth. As for the British weather, my forebears moved across the pond! (Though I doubt it was the weather)

I have to say, Tarun…that your photography is getting as refined as some of the gear that you review….Your improvements in framing, lighting and just general care visually is noticeable! The shot outside with the speaker on its back, taken from the bottom of the speaker with the word TRIANGLE across the foreground of the image, and your beautifully lit slo-mo showing of the movement of the woofers were highlights for me. 👍🏼 Nicely done!👍🏼

Hi Tarun, Just wanted to say thank you for the high value and good quality reviews that you do. I enjoy your clear, measured, and unembellished reviews. Your channel has only recently been discovered by me and am thoroughly enjoying your approach. Keep more coming and I appreciate the amount of work that goes into these reviews. I have recently purchased Floyd Toole's Sound Reproduction Book (3rd Edition) and am enjoying the insights and science of acoustics. I valued your series on how to's and selecting HiFi components. I am getting back into HiFi after many decades of being away from it. My system comprises: Prima Luna EVO300 integrated amp. Rega Planar 3 TT, Marantz CD6007, Lindemann LimeTree DAC/streamer and have a Nakamichi LX3 coming so I can play some old cassette tapes (I finally own a Nakamichi LOL). I look forward to watching more reviews and wish you well for the future of the channel. Cheers Tony

Hi Tarun, great review as always. On tonality, I’m convinced this is a red herring. It’s fairly easy to pick a pair of speaker based on tonal balance from a shop demo. In fact, I think that’s about the only thing the shop demo can show. My Monitor Audio GR20s were chosen for their tonal balance against some much warmer or softer speakers from the likes of Spendor and Rogers. However, the transformation to something approaching true high end was achieved by replacing parts in the electronics as well as in the passive crossovers for much higher quality items. Along with some other tweaks, I steadily removed all traces of harshness in the treble and looseness in the bass as well as dropping the background noise floor. The result, no change in the tonal balance, but a huge increase in the ability to hear the music rather than the hi-fi, if that makes sense. The same speakers that showed up every imperfection in poorly recorded or compressed music, now reveal every nuance or inflection of vocals. Images are locked solidly in place, even when seated well off the sweet spot central position. Guitar strings are easily differentiated, as are horns and so it goes on. My conclusion is that once you have a pair of speakers which suit your tastes tonally, that are capable of resolving the highest level of detail, then keep them. Spend your money on better source and amplification and don’t forget all the noise reducing ancillaries such as cables and power.

I want to thank you for piquing my interest about this speaker, I've seen it go on sale from a local vendor due to their comete being a demo piece that hasn't even been properly broken in yet in great condition. when it went for 1100$ I knew it was the time to buy this majestic piece of audio equipment, I've tested them out and they indeed didn't disappoint :) thanks for the great reviews over the years, and happy holidays tarun.

@@Finn_2187_Binks ive bought the speakers first, and still have them in the box, although my quest for amps is moreso about getting them as neutral as possible, since in my subjective opinion id like the speakers themselves to color the music the most, and then the other components coloring hopefully to a minimum. ive seen though that throughout journeys in audio peoples opinion changes, thats what makes the hobby so much fun in my opinion :)

Thank you for reviewing this! I JUST bought a pair of the standard Triangle Comète in walnut finish during the holidays, and after finally pairing them with an Advance Paris A10 Classic (after being disappointed in the sound with an SA3 + PA3) I absolutely fell in love with them, and the way in which you describe the sound signature of the 40th Anniversary edition certainly describes my experience with the standard edition. I originally wanted to decide between the Comète and Aria 906 but ended up keeping both, playing music on the Comète in the living room with only the Christmas tree lights on was a surprisingly warm, inviting and "romantic" experience, something that Focal and Fyne Audio just couldn't replicate as perfectly. When I discovered there was a 40th anniversary edition though, at albeit over double the price I paid for mine I was still very interested and curious. I am not sure the sound difference would warrant the expense but considering how beautiful they are, that beautiful dark finish blended with an elegant rose gold...Just wow.

I aim for a warmer sounding speaker that reproduces vocals in the most natural way. If it can't make vocals sound real I have a hard time listening to them, no matter if they are impressive in the bass. As always great job describing the sound of these speakers. Glad to hear on the family recovery as well. In my younger days, I was all about the cool analytical and more V shaped end of the spectrum. Loved studio monitor sound too. These days and with some hearing loss impact, I can enjoy klipsch or my small paradigms though with such a presentation, only in limited doses and at lower listening volumes. I now lean toward the warm / warm side of neutral on audio over all.

Hi Tarun, I bought the Comete 40th(blonde sycamore) anniversary a few months ago, I pair them with a Naim uniti atom and a SVS Sub, and I must say I am in Love with these Speakers, even my Wife likes them, both sound and looks. (the finish is just perfekt, very beautiful speakers, integrated nicely in our livingroom) I think you describe the sound very acurate, romantik, sweet sounding, very smooth sounding, what i Really love about them is the midrage, just sounds so natural, and the best Part is they Sound very good at low Volume. The tweeter is also amazing, when I got them I could not believe I am listening to a horn loaded speaker . They work perfekt with the Naim uniti atom, very easy to drive. My only complain would be, they dont have a lot of body in the midrage and, I am missing a bit of the guitar strings decay, but I guess It has to do with the paper/Cellulose driver. The SVS subwoofer Was helpfull with the body of the midrage. I also wished I could get a REL sub, but Rel customer Service answer my technically question after 4 months, so in the meanwille SVS was very helpfull buying and setting a sub. Due to my room restriction I had to place the speakers directly against the Front wall, just 2 cm away, and still Sound very good, not the deepest soundstage but still decent. I also must say I got room treatment from Gik Acoustics. Thank you for you rewiew, and as always great Job my Friend Greetings from Austria

I learned a lot of good tips on placement and it was also interesting to know how good you find ProAC's previous attempt with the SC1 To answer your quesion, having BR08s too I look for the triangle sound, I'm sold they are a great match for my ears. Somewhere in the middle with their own instrumental component they can add to the sound which complements the vast majority of radio and recordings.

Hi Tarun, I'm glad you escaped any serious consequences from your illness. Great review and now you hav me curious abut the Triangles. Maybe you should call yourself the Audiophile Enabler. Personally, I really dislike harsh or overly bright a speakers and go for full bodied richness in tone. Needless to say I'm a soft dome tweeter fan and always take claims about metal dome tweeters with a pillar of salt. That said, the JBL 1600 HDI speakers are not at all objectionable. With no pretensions of audio purity, I just want to hear what I like. Speaking of which, I just found a used pair of red Dynaudio Special 40 speakers and made them mine. I really love this speaker and the red finish is stunning. I found the Evokes to be too sleepy and laid back. Thanks for the tip on PS vane tubes. I slipped a 12AX7 into the preamp section of my amp and it is lovely.

Hello Tarun, quality review as always. I still continue to appreciate that you compare speakers under review to your Proac’s. It give us a base line to how your judging other brands / models. I’m so tired with the two extreme camps out there (objective vs subjective) and like your middle road approach to reviewing. The Triangles might not be the best measuring but that doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy or appreciate them for what they are. My pair of Davis Acoustics Olympia One Masters are very impressive. Not be the best measuring I’m sure but the tweeter and mid-woofer (fantastic mid-woofer) integration is very good - almost coaxial like. Take care, Brian

Great question !Since I listen 2 to 4 hours of music almost every single day, linearity and soundstage are paramount . On the other hand, I wasn't surprised when you said the Comete didn't image well. The mediocre quality of the x-over parts was a dead giveaway. When I upgraded the x-over on my present speakers, they went from dull to fantastic. Hope you get shipshape soon! Keep those old speakers. I'm sure you won't be able to find something better under 10k$!

My word Tarun, I've never seen Comete speakers in Australia. They are simply stunning. What are they like with orchestral string sections? If there is anything that makes me want to move the spectrum slightly to the warmer, it's the strings. My Dynaudio Excites were a touch on the bright side, but improved after 100 hours or so of use...which brings me on to the issue of speaker choice... Armed with 5 CD's I spent quite a while auditioning many speakers back in 2000 and that really made me realise that there are always trade-offs. The most stark were a pair of Tannoy floor standing speakers. As I listened, my immediate reaction was a definite no, but then the vocals started and wow! Still to this day I remember the beautiful way they reproduced the soprano and tenor in a duet. That said, it was not enough to overcome the shortfalls, but nevertheless a great lesson on the differences between speakers. And, even though I've had the Dynaudios a while, I still get the spine tingles with their reproduction of particularly the woodwinds. Two further points...I missed the video last week, so I am very relieved that you and your family have hopefully come through covid without serious problems. I hope all symptoms abate quickly. Lastly, my listening to your excellent review was somewhat interrupted by my dog snoring under the bed...a different take on a sub-woofer...I think your reviews put me in a good mood which seems to manifest in the irresistible urge to make cringeworthy comments!

Hi Tarun, a little late to this review but what an excellent job (as we have now come to expect from you). With speaker tonality, I am not in to brash and bright speakers. I like them to extract the detail from the source but not be in your face. I am listening to Audiovector R3’ Arette, not by any means inexpensive, but ended up there for good reasons. If you have not listened to them may I recommend that you do. They also have the R1 Arrete stand mount version which for me required a sub which I didn’t want cluttering the floor. For me it is difficult to find single system speakers that will not mask terrible and over bright recordings without losing quality and detail in the music one loves. If I was honest with myself I lean to a richer sound, I’m using a hybrid amp specifically for that reason, it is sometimes hard to find speakers that will give clarity to vocals, hate it when I listen to a piece and can barely understand what they are singing, again somewhat down to recording, mastering and pressing I think. Keep up the great work Tarun, you do an excellent job with the quality and detail in your reviews. Happy to also hear that you are all well following the undesirable Xmas events.

Hi Spuddy- my opinion is it’s the Marantz that is not completely up to the task. I have the same speaker but use a Hagel H190 and the amp has a heavenly grip on them. Granted, a totally different class of amp, but I thought I’d share. It is also possible that subjectivity accounts here and you would feel just as displeased with my setup. I like a warm tone, a gentle smiley face for frequency response with a slight BBC dip to avoid sibelence. I find this is the best for low and high volumes. I really believe that people should stop obsessing about perfect technical performance of components with their eyes, and start trusting their ears more. Just because a component mesures close to perfect technicaly, doesn't mean it sounds pleasing. Case in point, take the R8 for instance. I'm positive it doesn't mesure well technicaly, but sounds really good. We are not machines. Human beings should own hi fi components that bring them pleasure and stir emotions out of their music collection.

@@abritishaudiophile7314 a little trick I experimented with in situations where not enough room behind them is placing different materials on the back of the driver's, you can use various thickness of foam etc to kind of attenuate and slow down the rear wave amongst other things to kind of manipulate to different room size within reason, kind of an added layer of fun, lol, or faff depending on how you see it. Almost a little bit like tube rolling in some ways I guess, the product can be altered with various ease. As a family man they are probably not ideal though, kind of a selfish speaker in some ways given the narrow spot of perfection, lol, my eldest always sat in the seat where I had them set up for to be in best position, and the cat despite beforehand favouring a different seat.😂

Tarun, I appreciate your refined and elegant reviews. Thank you. I am not in audiophile territory yet. I'm running an NAD C740 35-Watt receiver driving an old pair of Boston Acoustics A70. I like a smooth midrange and open airy high end. I am willing to sacrifice some some bass response to get it. The Bostons were a great value, "Back in the day." One question that perhaps you have already addressed: Do you still see any advantage in acoustic suspension loudspeakers over modern ported designs? Or has the port been so optimized that there's no reason to avoid it? Thanks again.

Thank you Tim. Very kind. In my book, all you need to be audiophile is to love music and care about sound quality. There are plus/minuses to both ported and acoustics suspension designs. The popularity of bass reflex (ported) designs is due to the extended bass response but nine times out of ten it will be less well defined than a sealed box 👍😊👍

Hi Tarun lovely review for lovely speakers! I have listened to the 40th Anniversary Cometes in my place and I really really liked them. So much that I considered buying them. The only thing that I might have missed was some body in the midrange (at least on my 30 m2 room). Since you have also reviewed the Genese Quartet I was wondering if those were as refinded and tonnaly pleasing as the Cometes but would give more body and fullness to the mids due to their much bigger size. Also how was the bass speed and quality compared to the Cometes? I can buy the quartets used at a significantly lower price than the Cometes new so your opinion would be really helpful. Thank you!

My Atlantis stands for the 1SCs look just like yours, and are 27 3/4 inches from top plate to bottom plate without spikes, with spikes they’re 28.5 inches. How tall are yours and do you use spikes with them? The Triangles are very handsome looking, maybe just a tad too tall with the ports below. That doesnt happen soo often,, its more like a slow wrestling match inbetween myself and my two youngest ones, 10 and 12 years old. 🤩🤩 Everything you said about the Cometes fits 99% about my Signatur Theta,s. The only thing that differs, in my listening situation, are the width and depth of the soundstage. Iw got a wide open stage, and very well layered and good depth. The imaging are as you say a tad unlocked, but with DIRAC room correction the wall behind the speakers disapears totaly and the imaging locks, in a realism that are on the edge of scary, still without loosing the warmth, speed and the non tireing but highly detailed treble. You have ansvered three for me very important question,, do they work with the Hegel 190, the Exposure and most important, the Willsenton R8. Thank you soo much my friend 🥰. A Willy R8 it will be in the future. To anybody whos searching for the truth,,ish music played by speakers, I can highly recommend Genelec 8331 -8241-8351 or 8361 with Genelecs SAM room correction. I work with these "monitors" daily, and better sound microscopes doesnt exist today in my not so humble opinion on that matter. 😋 (Iw worked with Genelecs since the late 1980,s, and that can of course make me lean a tad against that brand, 🙄😅) The three first needs a sub if you like to listen to the 20Hz organ in Also Spracht Zarathustra at full "swing",, the 8361 doesnt, in some rooms. Thank you, thank you, thank you Tarun, for speaking understandable English, for not rushing on like you were on fire, for sharing your knowledge, for all the work and time your putting down in the reviews of yours etc etc. Cheers, and all my best wishes goes to you and your family.. 🍻🍻🍻🥰❣️❣️❣️. Iw got Covid two times. Early last year, and it was scary bad. I got super depressed and tired beyond anything Iw experienced before,,😬😥😴. Second time 2 weeks ago, even thou Im dubbel vaxed, and it was like a beautiful summer breeze in comparison with nr1. // Oooops,, almost forgot to tell that Iw/wew got two XTC 12" Edge subs, placed directly behind the "listening sofa", ca1meter from our heads, to fill in for the deepest octave. There will be "better" subs in the future, but the XTC,s are hard to beat, especial price wise if living in Sweden.

I guess its something like recording an artist or band that I dont like 😂. Anyhoo Tarun. Take care of yourself and your beloved ones. All my hugs and luv to y´all, wonderful humans. 🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️ (please remember that English is not my native language, and it is near by impossible to find the right weighted words sometimes, or more than sometimes possibly? I can hear how much "better some of my friends can speak English, especially those who have spent long time in England as students. I have spent exactly 0 seconds in England or any other "descent" English speaking country, so,, this is what it is. Everything is written with full luv for yall)

@@IrenESorius thank you for your kindness Irene. It is appreciated more than I can express here. I am so sorry to hear about your losses, especially your son. I can think of nothing worse. It is understandable that you didn’t come out of it unscathed 💖💖💖 I believe one of the most important lessons in life is to be aware of the energy we put out in this world. Positivity breeds positivity and the opposite is also unfortunately true. Most of the interactions we have are not with loved ones but fleeting, with strangers. At little human kindness costs nothing but goes a long way. It is great the way we can connect with people across the globe these days and share our passions. Receiving comments of support and encouragement like yours makes doing this so worthwhile. Oh, and by the way, there is nothing wrong with your English. I am sure many a native speaker would envy how articulate you are 💖👍

I think I'm still learning what balance I like. I like the warmth of my wharfedales and I hate the brightness of my monitor audios. Although I've just changed from a bronze 2 to a bronze 100 and I think the 100s are a bit more neutral. So somewhere between warm and neutral I think I lie. When I heard some wharfedale Linton's the vocal clarity was superb and probably the biggest trait I look for. Still learning and unfortunately no Bristol HiFi show again this year

Comète is a French word pronounced more like the English word "comet", with the stress on the second syllable and this is also held slightly longer, not like "commatay". Apart from this, another excellent review.

Hi Tarun, great review as always, really appreciate all the info you provided. I am having a Triangle BRO3 paired with Rega Brio - do you think switching to Triangle 40th Anniversary Comete would be a clear step up? I feel like BRO3 is a bit too forward in the midrange for my taste. I would like to see more balanced presentation and more refinement. Also, I am leaning toward a slightly warmer signature. Thank you.

Thank you Aleksander. Much appreciated. The 40th Ann Cométe should be a significant improvement over the BRO3 when partnered with your Brio amp. As always, I would recommend an audition before buying 👍😊👍

Hello Tarun, good review of this speakers, your reviews are accurate and to the point. I like these speakers's engaging and the three-dimensional sound they project, and I would have loved to hear more treble out of the tweeters, The speakers are very revealing of cabling and partnering equipments and they can show any flaws in any recording. I have mine paired with the latest revision of Atoll IN200 Signature and Cambridge audio Azur 851N. My 11.5 years old PMC TB2i has better sound dispersion and more treble. I believe speaker cables with sharper highs can benefit the Triangles. Are you able to review Atoll ST200 / ST300 signature streamers or Atoll DAC200 / DAC300.

Interesting what you said about speaker cables. I have the Titus EZ which shares the same tweeter with the Comete standard version. I was testing the Chord Clearway X against the Audioquest Rocket 11 cables and I heard big differences. Both excellent cables but the more revealing treble of Rocket 11 won out and suits the Triangle speakers down to the ground.

Hi Tarun, Thx for another great review I ve been using triangle for years and most say i have a soft spot as well for triangle sound. I running a pair of Triangle Genese Trio with Cyrus one amp and most say since the swoop to Cyrus my Trios got there new fresh youth 😊 but still that triangle smooth sound.. after your Trio review and now comete 40th do you think the swoop from Trio to comete 40th is a night and day upgrade? Besides the slightly better mid control is it worth it? I heard the standard comete and comete 902 they where good buy for money. But can comete 40th do overall better than Trio or is Theta the only option 😊 B regards Z

Thank you Zoran. It is hard for me to be sure as some much time has passed since I reviewed the Trios. They are similar speakers in many ways as you may expect. I wouldn’t upgrade Trios to the 40th Ann Cométe. You should look higher up the range 😊👍

My LS3/5a’s are wonderful but are relegated to a bedroom system. My Klipsch Heresy IVs are in my main rig with the the Wilsenton R8 and Sunfire sub ( a must IMHO). I love them both but the Heresy’s and Willsenton brought me out of a lull in the hobby. Step outside your norm and inject some fun back into your journey:) I have a bunch of other speakers in the basement:)

Hi Tarun, great review! I have a dilemma you may be able to help me with. We live in an old Italian palazzo with huge rooms and I think I need bigger speakers. Currently I have the Titus EZ running off a Primare i15 prisma connected to a sub. They sound great but I’d like more depth of soundstage. Which would you say was the better option from the Comete 40, Genese Trio or the KEF R3… My wife would probably appreciate an answer more than me because it’s driving her mad! Best wishes Darrell
