This is one reason why I really like your videos. You show us when you've made a mistake, you don't hide the frustration you felt when you realized the mistake and you show us how with patience it can be remedied. I think I've only subscribed to 2 channels and yours is the only weaving one. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Good method. Another I’ve used is before untying or undoing anything, to insert cross sticks at the back (by making the 2 plain weave sheds)and tie the sticks together at the ends. Then I can replace the unwanted heddle with the one I want and the cross sticks keep the warps in order ready for rethreading the heddle I do want! I hope that makes sense!🤣

This was great advice for a new weaver like myself! When I received my three heddles, I noticed they had stickers with bar codes on the back which identified the heddle size. I decided to leave them on so I would always know what size heddle I was choosing.

That's a good idea. The Ashford heddle sizes are permanently printed on, which is a big help!

My method can be done even with a proper sett if the yarns aren't too grabby. I remove the warp and not the weft, by grasping warp near the heddle and pulling it back out. Begin a couple of inches in from the edge and pull a single warp back out. After doing a few single warp threads, things loosen up more and I can pull out little groups of warp threads. If you want to save the weft, you can run a cord alongside those last few warp threads at each edge, tie the cord to front and back beams then remove the rest of the warp . This will let you keep the weft from tangling while you wind it into a ball.

I prefer to unweave from the fell, and put the newly freed weft back onto a bobbin or stick. I find it to be the easiest way to save the weft as well as the warp. Thanks for showing how to transfer on a rhl. I've had to do it recently on a 36" 4 harness loom, which does not have the convenient place to put the correct reed. I wound up completely undoing it, inserting the correct reed, and re-sleying the reed. I did keep the threads in the heddles, which helped. It wasn't perfect but it worked well enough to get the weaving done.

Ah, I forgot about this video when I had my oopsie. I had mistakenly grabbed the 12.5 and not the 10 dent heddle. I found the mistake before I rolled the back roller and still had the yarn in the slots. So had to figure it out. Moved the wrong heddle to the front and put the correct heddle in it's place, and tediously grabbed the yarns and pulled them through. Tedious, but, now ready to roll back.

Why do you start in the middle rather than from one end?
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova Жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean Elizabeth?
@annieem5693
@annieem5693 Жыл бұрын
She starts rethreading from the middle (center) because the new heddle has closer holes and slots, and the weaving will end up being narrower than the original. She wants the weaving to remain in the middle of the new heddle.

Thanks Kelly, I love the clarity you've got when faced with what would be (for me) a very gnarly problem. Once youve freed the warp from the weft, would it be feasible to leave the incorrect heddle in place in the rear position and just thread the correct heddle in front of it?
@KellyCasanova
@KellyCasanova Жыл бұрын
Interesting idea, but you would still have to move that second heddle with the first one, so the front heddle would be a different sett to the back heddle. I don't think that would work too well. It would be a nice simple fix if it did!

I’ve just brought some 8 4 cotton I only had 7.5 with my new loom so I doubled the warp and weft would I need a 12.5 if I didn’t double it very new to weaving still I’ve been having a break from everything craft wise as my son died this yr I’m trying to motivate myself wanting to make tea towels .

Hi Julia, I'm very sorry to hear of your son's passing. Yes, the 12.5 would work well if you didn't want to double. A 15 dent heddle would also be an option.

Would the difference in width eventually cause tension issues on a longer warp?
@KellyCasanova

While it's not ideal for tension, it does still work. If perfect tension is important to you, you would probably want to consider re-winding, but I'm happy with doing less work and just making do 😊
