Remembering computer audio systems from the late 90's and early 2000's with VST instruments and so on, reverb plugins, analog modelling synth plugins etc, these were very CPU intensive. OP-1 Field has more grunt within than the original. Dimension likely wouldn't work in it's current form. OP-1 shipped in 2011 - the computer inside is probably slower than the first iPad from 2010. There were a couple of KZfaq shorts posted showing sound quality, massively improved. Popping eliminated, stereo, playing samples at different pitches far far cleaner. However the poster of these shorts removed them as he was being threatened with physical violence from commenters. No one needs that stress in their life.

This made me laugh because when I was at school in the 80s, we had Casio VL Tones in my crappy music class. If you’ve never seen or heard one, they’re absolute shit, but look not dissimilar to this at a glance. Currently on eBay for (an outrageous in my opinion) £70 or so. 😁

The physical construction does not appear as robust as the original. The aluminum will be easily damaged and readily show signs of wear. The knobs appear more mid century and less original. The display is an improvement as are some of the features. None of this merits the doubling of the price for this instrument. I thought the 5k Oberheim was indication this industry had lost its way, it seems some of the more imaginative manufacturers have gone down the same path. It should be understood that recorded music is not how the young care to spend their time. The tools that make this music will be as relevant as the music is. I. will anticipate a Behringer OP1 soon.

The original is also aluminium, but painted white. I've notice zero chipping on mine, because I look after it. But bare metal aluminium with no paint over it should be more durable not less.

It’d be really cool to make something new that’s actually affordable and more geared toward user input, rather than rehashing a product and jacking up the price. I was so excited when I saw the news and was immediately disappointed when I saw this overview. Losing respect for TE… Sure, the OP1 Field has some new quirks and engines, as well as 32-bit recording, but this is like an OP1 software update with a few cosmetic changes. It might have been a cooler product towards the end of the decade, because patience would build hype for an OP2. I feel like this is too soon and is priced at a ridiculous price.

For update can we please get chord generator 😩. Something where you can dial in a chord with the colors (scale, key, chord type, variation like fingerings or inversions) and make them save able to each key. So u can play chord sequences with chords you’ve created and saved with each key similar to drum and finger. Just thought of it cause The new Roland j6 is fun for new ideas and playful in a sequencer type of way and I miss my mc707 chord designer :(
