My favourite moment in russian history that isn't taught by mainstream history books is that time in 1942 when Stalin's force ghost manifested itself on the border between Russia and Tannu Tuva and sent out an ultimatum to their government to join the federation peacefully or be annexed

I love this strat. Also, if you do the Great Purge but refuse to prosecute anyone in every event before going democratic, you don’t lose any generals or advisors but can still get all the NKVD buffs and do the rest of the tree.

literally did an Italian democracy run a month ago. the fact you can still get franco in your faction meant as soon as france capitulated and the germans declared on the soviets I steamrolled France and south Germany... with an alliance of spain bulgaria and yugoslavia. it's always busted if you switch sides tho.

Well, there is a Nationalist Spain focus tree path where non-aligned Franco can cozy up to the democracies, join the Allies, and basically speedrun the Spanish Miracle with their economic support. Him going in Democratic Italy's faction isn't the weirdest thing I've heard of.

This reminds me of a multiplayer game where Germany declared on me in 37 (I was Poland) I spent most of that time begging the Soviets for help… By late 38 We were deep into Germany (for some reason my light tank destroyers could defeat the german tanks).

I remember realising back in the day that there were no ideology checks on the German focus tree. So I turned democratic and tried to join the allies. But without Germany being the bad guy, there was no country to ally against, so they rejected my application.

You're missing out on your 5th research slot by not doing the purge focus. You can actually complete it and do all the bottom decisions that say will "cause civil war" without a problem. As long as you switch from communism to something else by mid 1938 there won't be a civil war and you keep all the generals/advisors. Did it as fascist; joined Axis, killed allies and Japan, took over faction, kicked Germany out and let them declare war, had 72 tank division roll them over in 1943, easiest WC ever.

Also fun fact you can still do the Purge as prelude to a political switcheroo. You can even keep your generals. Just don't pick the options to purge anyone, and Trotskyite Plot will go away when you switch to Democratic or Fascist.

You should try the Russian Federation in the Russia Reworked mod, now that is OP. Your compliance level grows extremely fast and you gain the ability to justify war goals on anyone, despite being Democratic.

I dont understand why Kerensky is considered as democratic figure head. First he was in the Trudoviki Party (the communist/socialist peasant party) and later the Social Revolutioners Party (if i am translated it corect). He was send by the Petrograder Soviet in the first provisionel government of Russia after the Feburary Revolution as kind of representive of the Soviets. The democratic history of Russia is short but other "Liberal" people like Miljukov would fit better because they stand for more parlamentarism.

Just do the purge first with all the decisions that are meant to make trotsky return while trying to become democratic as soon as the focus ends- then you get access to the rest of the focus tree at the bottom
