For the record Rapiers are not small and easy to hide, they are longer than Longswords and weigh the same. You're thinking of a foil. Loving the build, the rolls are sweet :) and your choices are really good.
@KaiserSoze6795 жыл бұрын
Okay, no, they're not "small and easy to hide" but longer than/as heavy as longswords? Very, very rarely. I mean, sure, the longest and heaviest rapier may compare to the shortest and lightest of longswords, but the averages don't skew that way at all. If they did, the way rapiers are fought with (largely single-handed with an extended arm) would be utterly exhausting.
@freman0075 жыл бұрын
Average weight of a Longsword, 3.5 lbs according to Google. Average weight of a Rapier, 2.2 lbs according to Google. So a rapier is about 2/3 the weight of a longsword. It is longer, and has most of the weight at the hilt making it quicker in the tip. www.thearma.org/essays/weights.htm

EXPERTISE AND RELIABLE TALENT IS BROKEN! I can auto 20 checks for Stealth, Sleight of hand,Herbalism Kit and Thieves Tools at lvl 11. You can get proficiency in herbalism kit with the Hermit background. And you can further break Reliable talent by grabbing the Skilled feat at lvl 11 which makes you get three more proficiencies in anything. So now my lvl 12 Rogue arcane trickster can do a multitude of checks without having to worry about 1's or rolling lower then 10 and four skills can be auto'd over 20.

I will always remember my first rolls for a character. They were redonc! Three 18's a 17 a 16 and a 14. The DM was like "No, reroll." He wasn't even going to consider allowing me to use those rolls. So I rerolled and I don't remember the second roll, but again it was nothing less than a 14. DM joked about it and said "No more dice for you." So we ended up doing a point buy system. I didn't quite understand what he was talking about until I had played and had a bit of experience. I'm somewhat bummed though because this character could've been godlike. And there's no way I'll ever roll like that again.

I prefer the point buy system when building a character. I don't think a level one character should ever be that o.p. It also makes it harder on the D.M. because he/she has to up the challenge for the one over powered character while the rest of the party isn't that strong so it just throws everything out of balance. Also I don't know if you guys are familiar with the novels by R.A. Salvatore with Drizzt. But there is a character in his books called Regis and you basically recreated him down to the shiny pendant. I thought that was pretty amusing.
@jaknife996 жыл бұрын
I guess if a DM is an idiot. Point buy just leads to more min/maxing and focusing on the numbers.
@Tennouseijin6 жыл бұрын
I'd say it depends a lot on the players and the GM. Some groups are perfectly fine playing a LotR-like group with a huge disparity of power between the strongest (Gandalf) and the weakest (Merry and Pippin). Some groups don't mind playing scenarios where, say, one of the PCs is a royal diplomat (who is neither a spellcaster nor a martial, just an aristocrat with high charisma), while other PCs are his bodyguards, for example. Other groups don't enjoy imbalance and in those cases it might be best if everyone agrees to use point buy or stat array.
@SlyBlu75 жыл бұрын
@@jaknife99 - or I mean, it's totally valid. Rolling for stats is even pushed away in the PHB, it causes too many problems. You get one guy with hot dice out of the party, and suddenly you have to target them directly in ways that nullify the character: "Yeah Mike, I know it's the 15th time this week, but the Goblins *just happen* to be on the other side of a 30ft chasm, shooting bows at your Barbarian. I know, AGAIN." OR You have to up the challenge so that 'Mike' doesn't just mop the floors with every encounter you put in front of the party. The problem then becomes: If Mike rolls like crap or is absent, the rest of the party is doomed. If the party Rogue goes to fight the enemy meant to deal with Mike, and that enemy lands a hit, the damage is ugly (2d8 is nothing to Mike with his 20 Con at Lvl1, but it will almost certainly paste the Rogue's average rolls) It's just so much better to use Point Buy, or, if you don't like Min-Maxed characters and math, use Standard Arrays.
@Candid1ify5 жыл бұрын
Perfectly fine to use which ever method you want to use please extend that right to everybody else. OP is a myth on rolled characters odds are against you to roll the perfect character of all 18`s , or an 18 at all for that matter. I have only seen an all 18`s character rolled once in 40 years of playing. Drizzt has an absolutely ludicrous dexterity due to personal ability , and 2 bracers of speed which he wears around his ankles. Regis is a legendary character with many years of experience behind him estimated level 12th when you first run into him.

Nerd alert: Tolkien describes three different kinds of Hobbits! The numerous, Dwarf-friendly Harfoots, who were the predecessors of the Hobbits in the books and the smallest of Hobbits; the rare and adventurous Fallohides, who were the tallest and fairest of the Hobbits and had close ties to the Elves; and the semi-aquatic Stoors (Gollum/Smeagol was one of these) who were burlier and hairier than the rest of Hobbit-kind and had the closest ties to normal Humans. And all Hobbits were actually a branch of Humans! DUN DUN DUNNNN!

I was thinking that you all haven't had any Gnomes or Halflings in either of the two campaigns and that's a little surprising since you do Critical Hits and fails. I would be a Halfling just for that reason. If you get a different person to cover Nala's spot in DoE (sad to see her go btw) I hope whoever else you get is someone other than a Human or Elf. The Dragonborn brought some diversity to the group!
@Awakeandalive18 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm running the new "Curse of Strahd" Ravenloft module for my group and the party consists of 3 humans, 2 half-elves and 1 elf -- which has resulted in them missing out on some pretty interesting stuff, since the module contains some fun "Easter Eggs" for Halflings, Gnomes & Dwarves and some great social/roleplaying bits for Tieflings, Dragonborn and even Half-Orcs. Maybe I'm just prejudiced (I always play the smaller races), but a party of normally-sized, normally-featured people feels...empty...somehow.

@AnoAssassin8 жыл бұрын
Hey Brandon! You tend to know things, so hear this. My friend went for an Armiger (it's a homebrew class) and we rolled for stats. Str 18, dex 12 con 19, int 12 wis 12 cha 10. That's pretty funky for a level 3 character. Should we nerf, reroll, balance idk. or keep it that way for the sake of fairness?
@IffyWizardryDnD8 жыл бұрын
+AnoAssassin I'm in a group that did something pretty interesting. We had one guy roll even more ridiculously well than Kristen did here. Another guy rolled garbage. So our high roller just gave some of his points to the other guy when the DM ok'ed it. Talk about team building!
