So Chase was a deadbeat dad even before the divorce. He constantly showed weaponized incompetence. Wife is nagging too much? Well, of course she will, if the husband is acting like a child and can't act and plan like an adult. She has to take care of 4 kids and an adult, who is supposed to help her, but acts like a child with no responsibility.

After making friends with both of them, a week later, when his wife left for the restrooms, OP flirts with Chase and they'd been having an affair behind her back for who knows how long. How does any of this feel like OP was "Protecting the kids' father", at all? Let alone, if there had been no bringing up of spousal abuse at all or that Willow was the abusing spouse? And then goes to a Jane, a child, who seems smart for her age, to put the whole situation behind her and even told her that she doesn't need to take care of her mom? Yeah, OP is a terrible, home-wrecking woman. And Chase? If he wasn't happy with his marriage, he should've filed divorce, rather than continue with the affair. So, in the end, both OP and Chase are wrong and are at fault in all of it. I swear, if they try to prevent the kids from being with their mother, even file for full custody, Jane is going to hate them, forever. Even run away, or make accusation to have CPS come to take them away... Honestly, OP needs to back off, stop butting in and give Jane space. Hell, they should allow her mother to have full custody of Jane or to stay with her mom whenever she likes to. Also, you bringing up that you would keep complaining to HR about another worker's BO at work, results them on quitting, how they're not doing their jobs or just about everything else that you don't like going on at your job to constantly complain about everything about them, regardless on how they worked or their appearance not being "professional", thus you unable to work... When I read the title, I didn't think I'd hate every adult in this story, but I truly do. OP broke a home and is surprised people, especially the eldest, hate her? It's extremely stupid, and this whole post shows that. Chase can't even be bothered to remember diapers for his kid. I feel he isn't getting enough heat from everyone else in this story, despite him being the one who cheated on his wife. Willow has a right to be mad, but actively fighting in front of the kids and getting mad at OP for simply breathing at this point is absurd. At some point, you need to prioritize your children and their happiness, not getting back at your ex's mistress. The fact that she takes her ex to court for simply reprimanding the eldest, even when she ruins things for the other children, is so obnoxious. The only people I really feel for are these children. They're being failed because adults can't be faithful nor put their pride aside for them.

@HeoBaby24 I don't think she's as wrong as OP and Chase, but considering how she acted over a Lego set and a chocolate cake for her kid, I can't say Willow isn't at least wrong for the way she's been reacting to anything OP does for her kids. If Willow was just being petty, that'd be fine, but she's essentially getting mad that OP isn't being a bad stepmother at this point. The constant arguing in front of the children instead of speaking to the cheaters privately post-divorce will never be excusable imo which is where my main problem with her stems from.

This is exactly the comment I was looking for because yeah I think this is a situation where ESH, however if I had to pick who’s the biggest AH that would OP. The ex wife in this situation is the perfect example of the people they choose to settle down with says more about them than it does others sometimes. OP’s boyfriend(Chase was it) is the definition of an incompetent man which makes me question why in the heck did the ex wife marry him or what she even saw in him, especially when she CHOSE TO HAVE 4 KIDS WITH HIM. 4 kids is an insane amount of amount and I don’t think anyone could afford that, the husband is also responsible because he decided this was okay when he literally can’t even do some basic freaking tasks. Yeah the wife is nagging her husband because he’s an incompetent guy, and he really should’ve tried to step up. The wife also has some responsibilities because how in the heck did she marry this guy, this guy’s incompetence is the kind that could lead to one of the children getting hurt or killed, if she’s unable to get him to change his behavior to be a responsible parent she should’ve just divorced him as he’d be more of a liability than help with the children and that’s non negotiable. I don’t understand why people try to pin the blame purely on just the guy here, since the ex wife definitely choose wrong. Plus as was already mentioned the toy situation, like Jesus Christ you don’t have to be friends with the home wrecker but try to keep your children out of this. Everyone really does s**k here and I feel bad for the children as almost no one seems to give a care in the world about them.

I'm going to try to keep this short since I always write long comments, ESH and this was painful to read as almost no one seems to care about the children. Almost no one is calling out the ex wife here when she's deciding to be petty and fight with her ex and his AP instead of taking care of her children first, that situation with the toy, my god how petty can you be. The husband being incompetent that he gets nagged by his and then choosing to cheat instead of divorcing or trying to fix his marriage which would've been stepping up. Given how it was stated that this was a common thing for the ex wife to nag at him, like wt* why didn't she already leave him it only serves to make herself miserable and the children because she's choosing to fight in front of them, plus this is the kind of incompetence that can get a child hurt or killed and if the ex husband can't be trusted with basic tasks he shouldn't be caring for children period like why did she choose to have kids with this kind of guy, let alone 4 kids. Its very clear that this marriage was doomed to fail as both parents here were idiots the entire time. Now the biggest AH in all of this the OP, don't have much to say as most people here have said it, textbook definition of a home wrecker I have no amount of sympathy for her given that she broke up a family and no excuse of "the husband would've cheated or left the wife anyway" can justify it as she choose to be the one to destroy marriage and is not one bit remorseful "such a nice woman /s", she better also stop trying to act like she cares about the children when she literally broke up that marriage she's not a replacement mother and she should just accept the oldest won't "come around" as that child is old enough to understand what was going on and there's almost close to no way someone can just recover from that.

Wow, the misogyny is so bad we're blaming the victims now. Why didn't she leave? She was pregnant with her fourth kid. Why didn't she put her children first and start a fight? She literally caught her husband with another woman. Why didn't the father and mistress out the children first and not cheat in the first place? And as for the toy, it's not petty for her not to want the mistress to try to bribe her kid and put her down and hype herself up and brag that she can buy her child more expensive things, and try to alienate the mom, especially since the reason for that financial situation is OP cheating and stealing her husband and OP having a double income house now while the mom has child support or maybe child support and whatever she can bring home after having 4 kids... Heck the youngest was 1, she was still recovering from the pregnancy and birth...

If she had not fought in front of the children she wouldn’t have gotten that. If someone is married to someone so incompetent they put their own children at risk they should’ve left them a long time ago before kids, and by some miracle I’m glad no children have died due to the husband’s incompetence, it’s her job as a mother to protect her children. There was another Reddit story where a husband just stood still and nearly watched his child die in front of him, had his wife not stepped in to save their child it would’ve been run over by a car, again incompetence to the point you put other people in danger means they’re not fit to be parents same thing applies here, and also why the heck was she choosing to have another kid when she was already miserable to begin with, she’s just only adding more to it along with additional responsibility of another kid which could very well effect the quality of life for the older children. That’s called taking some sort of accountability and it’s clear that her priority wasn’t her children as it should be. She clearly didn’t when she decided she’d rather fight and bash the mistress all in front of her children instead of doing her best to co parent, does she seriously not think her children will be traumatized more by just choosing to constantly blast her ex husband and mistress, the fact that this didn’t occur to her for one moment is beyond me and she’s a terrible mother for choosing to fight in front of her children, what happened to putting her children first? Yeah the toy incident is so petty, their kids let them have the gifts people want to give them, that’s not alienation and in fact the ex wife would only be doing that to her children only because she couldn’t keep her jealousy in check. Totally agree op is wrong, she's a homewrecker. But she's somewhat right in that the mother is definitely poisoning that kid. That's not normal or healthy behavior. Its perfectly ok for mom to hate the mistress and her ex but she's definitly coaching her daughter to be a menace which is going to lead to life-long damage that she carries into future relationships. Shes only looking at what works for her today.
