Hi everyone, I hope you’re all well! In this video I get to make a start on a large Andamooka gem matrix opal and cut a few pieces to see how it faces. Some will be treated, results will be in a later vid. Enjoy, thanks for your time!

You will be amazed at how many choice gems you will get from that one big piece...Now that wire wrap jewelry is popular there isn't the demand for ovals anymore...(they are for castings and standard settings). I like some points to wrap around myself...

Does this type of opal need to be shaped before processing because you cannot work it after processing?

G’day Bonnie, this one was a lesson learned for me that not all matrix will take a treatment, I should have test treated it before slicing/cutting, I would have cut differently. 🤪👍

G’day, I’ll answer both here, no you don’t need to keep any Australian opal in water, the only reason I can see in putting rough opal in water, is to make it easier to see past the unpolished, diffused surface of rough material. Price, in the not less than $2k range 🤪👍

Please tell me about your saws, the round one you used to grind off the edges after cutting the opal, what's it called and what size is it? Then the saw you used to cut the opals, again what's it called and what size is it?

My trim saw is a water tile saw brand Ozito, I have mounted a 0.5mm 4in saw blade that I widen the centre hole to fit the saw. My cutting wheel is www.gemcuts.com.au/Gemmasta-GSP8-Complete-Vertical-Cabbing-Machine 🤪👍

If aussie Opal is so strong. why do I keep seeing people keep it in water?.... Should I be doing that, cuz ive got some expensive stuff Im not ready to cab yet.

If the opal is rough sometimes surface flaws can open up more over time, it’s when the opal is polished free from flaws that it is impenetrable by water as it is the nature of glass, so keeping it in water is pointless at that stage. So, to protect the rough opal from crazing I keep mine in water till it’s polished. This might help explain www.opalsdownunder.com.au/learn/opal-facts-myths/ 🤪👍

There should be a law preventing the destruction of opal as shown in this vid. Clearly this isn't the field for you. An AWESOME stone turned into rubble.

No one said it compares to Lightning ridge, I’m also neither a Ford or Holden man, I don’t enter pissing contests. A proper machine? This is how it’s always been done, kinda like telling the Hells Angles they should invest in a car, if you don’t like it that’s fine, try to sound less dictating please, each to their own. Not sure how to take your comment!

Not trying to be rude but since your hands are like your face in your videos. You really should trim your nails. You wouldn't do a video showing your face without brushing your hair would you.

Try cutting some opal and then complain about his nails mate. Hazard of the trade.
