Join me as I head back to the Royal Peacock Opal Mine, one of the best pay-to-dig mines in Nevada for finding the elusive black fire opal. It's never a bad time to go and try to strike it rich!

Glad to, and its for sure, not a normal family outing, but it's a gamble. However, I guess it is cheaper than Disney but a lot less mascots. Just don't try to Hug Sidney Sidewinder ... 🤣🤣

It's truly an oasis up there. You drive in from high desert, and then it's all lush and green with tons of ponds and wildlife. Even if you don't plan on digging opals a great place to camp

Thank you. When I started pulling it, I was a little beside myself, and it just kept going, I can't remember if it was in the video but it finally reached a point where it turned to just petrified wood then into not completely petrified, I wish I could have gotten it all out in one piece because it would have made a cool show piece to show off the diffrent stages of mineralization.

Thinking you got your money worth. Felt that when you Said you were gonna dig clear through that mountain. You got some nice flashes in some of those smaller pieces too. It's gonna be hard to not want to check on them all year while theyre curing up. Guess Christmas really is in July now.

Those were beautiful! Looks like a nice place to visit but a little too pricey for a noob like me. But, I think it would be awesome to see a video of that wood expanding in water! Probably be a fun and entertaining experiment. Don’t be tough on Hamilton. He has to work to stay so handsome while your out trekking the country 😂
@huntingrocks
@huntingrocks Ай бұрын
It's definitely a place to save for and lots of homework before you go ( I'm still learning tricks) The wood explodes usually pretty quick I didn't have any that made it home sadly but next year, I will show it, of course if it's a nice big chunk I will keep it cause million year old wood is cool. Hamilton was so happy I was home when I got back, he was probably mad at me still for leaving, his momma spoils him but not like dad does 🤣

Next year, bring an ice 9:38 pick or a sharp flat nose screw diver. It really helps to get the opal out of the clay ash. Also, if you need a break from digging the tailing at rainbow ridge are fantastic. Very few people cam get thru a whole scoop. They leave lots of great opal behind.

Go do tailings on opening day. They have a lot of material that was from the wall that’s unsearched from cleaning up and preparing for the season. Also some really amazing things come out of the older tailings. Two years ago I found an opalized fir cone worth $1200. 🙃✌️ Great day for my $75 investment. Spent $200 of that and found nearly $3000 in black opal with full spectrum of color. I was able to stabilize it and sold the smaller of the two polished pieces. I love the Peacock. ❤️
@huntingrocks
@huntingrocks Ай бұрын
Heck yeah, thanks for that info, I will try to set my trip earlier in the year, and an opalized pine cone is wild, I had asked if any one had ever found one before and was told they do pop up from time to time. And it's like I tell people it's a big risk, but it's a big reward . In my neck of the woods, mines run from $20 up to $40 but it's mostly quartz , Opal has of course way more value so $190.00 or $75.00 for tailings is something I'm willing to spend. And I, too, love Peacock. I hope to actually stay in one of the cabins sometime or at least in Denio.
@2HighNoon

I was, but having paid for the wall and not having my screens, I decided not to. Last year, when I was there, I did see a few folks who had dug wall one day and tailings their second, if I make it next year I hope to stay up there and due at least 3 days , 2 at peacock and 1 at one of the other mines.
