The Opel Ampera is Europe's first mainstream electric vehicle. The model is powered by a 111 kW/150 hp electric motor which delivers 370 Newton meters torque right from the very first turn of the wheel.

People said the same thing about the Prius. At this point it's obvious that the life of the Prius' battery pack will outlast the economic usefulness of the rest of the car. There's no reason to expect it wont be the same with the Volt / Ampera. GM designed the Voltec system to only use about 40% of the batteries charging capacity to ensure that, A) It wont wear out prematurely, and B) The car wont ever have a reduced electric range by tapping into more of it's charging capacity as the car ages.

LOL the toy RC cars have come a long ways. Charger and battery technology. We got batteries producing over 300amps and can be charged in 10mins and give close to a hour of runtime.

Na 1 jaar waren mijn accu's kapot, het vervangen van deze accu's kostte me meer dan 10 duizend euro.

Ahh.. so that's why the Volt/Ampera is so 'revolutionary'. Someone actually thought not to use a pithy combustion engine to push an almost two tonnes of car, JUST drive the electric generator. I don't care if American want their stupid saloon gas cars, please GM make a five-door wagon would sell a lot better worldwide... and style it like a normal car, and use a damn diesel.
