My first hot hatch was a 1.8 GTE. A few years later I was offered a GTE 16v (red, only 70,000 miles 88/89 first model with the Coscast head and 156bhp no cat or abs) I absolutely LOVED that car! On the street no other hot hatches gave me any fight. I even remember overtaking (with absolute ease) an XR2 with my engine miss firing due to knackered spark leads haha! You would overtake other cars, look down at the speedo and you'd be doing 120+mph easily. I also used to take my GTE down the A120 nearby and do 130+mph nigh on every day that I owned the car haha! I really wish I'd had the money to give it the mods it needed to be the ultimate hot hatch (ITBs, cams, headwork, suspension, bushes, LSD etc) The C20XE was a truly incredible engine, being very Motorsport orientated. If you changed the injection to ITBs (or even twin carbs if you could keep them set up) on a totally standard engine it gave you an instant 40bhp to around 200bhp (190bhp with carbs) It would have definitely needed an LSD to get the power down though, as even the standard car lit the tyres up in 1st, 2nd and even 3rd in the wet and could launch you to the other side of the road if you were rough with it! (yup, that's from experience haha!) I still miss my GTE 16v and the great times in the 90s that I had in it!

A guy next door to me when i was young had the Vauxhall Astra GSI. Still love this car now.

Heb ook een Kadett GSI rally gehad en heb nu een astra GSI met ook weer de C20XE en deze heeft nog een betere wegligging dan de Kadett,zie je ook in de video en bij gas los in de bocht geen overstuur.danny GSI
