Hoan's insanely strong skill is his presence and capacity to steal someone's "moment" and it works perfectly with his technical pop/beat killing. Watch how each time he does something funny, goofy, or just feels that "moment" to just kill the beat and get the audience going, of course he is insane to have that musicality with songs he probs doesn't know and don't match pop. But all that to me is a super hard skill to develop and requires experience and talent as an entertainer, danse is a social thing so even if it's not really "dancing" as he doesn't really groove and connects to the song/people with his movements, if it connects with people to me it's even crazier. Dance should be defined by how people feel about it and not by our standards, even tho that could be a backfiring definition, it's kinda like larry, when he feels the song and gets that beat killing energy, it's the best, but when he fails to catch it even tho its insane you can see how restricted he is and how stiff he feels. Hoan is in the same position imo and as long as people feel it, it's good, but when people will get tired of it or he will lose that capacity to catch moments well.. I totally gets why he won against the waacking girls as its very a technical repetitive style without flow and even thought i feel like its one of the hardest style to catch the audience against other styles, and she didnt do a well enough job to make us feel it, while on the other hand with Danzel added everything lacking on the last round insane flow, musicality, technicality, and connects hard to the song, and he catched that moment, i guess overall that capacity to kill it just comes from confidence and experience, hence why hoan is so good at it and since it works he never needed for it to evolve. This wasn't really a dance analyzis but i feel like its too important in dance to ignore the power of catching the audience even if its not dance itself.

Whatever your body naturally does with the music can always be counted as dancing. What you quoted with "drop the technique, just dance" doesn't mean not dancing with technique, but with instinct. You can hit and pop with the music, and that's also considered dancing. And what you analysed with Batella or Brother Bin with the theory of movement's richness, variation or use of space are indeed techniques. Put aside whether Hoan really danced those rounds naturally, you can always see some battlers win with just fundamentals, basic moves, or even simple grooves.

I've been dancing 8-10+ years internationally including popping. Hoans one of my favs for his theatrics and beatkills, but I'm glad I'm not the only one that has similar thoughts. I felt perhaps the judges were biased towards popping vs waacking and other styles.

Hoan has been my favorite dancer since 2013, but I agree with you, although I"m not a dancer but I've always thought his transitions were not as good as some other poppers at his level, he like stops and does the next move. But I mean if he was good at that I'm not sure it would be fair to other dancers, because then he would be just unbeatable, totally.

Reminds me of JRock’s comments under Jaygee vs Hoan in Feel the Funk 2018. Hoan definitely leveled up in general vocabulary as of last year, showing up HARD at the latest Feel the Funk, but I’m also not getting as much of that new flow he seemed to have over here. Might’ve been the music or something holding him down to the stuff most ingrained in him?

Nothing but love for Hoan. At this point no one can really do what Hoan does like Hoan. He's definitely something special. But I've said it before really he can't dance. (Yet) Maybe more so in his younger years when it looked like he was out in the club's every weekend partying and dancing you could see he would bring some of the to his battles. But now he's just so technical it's almost repetitive. Still looks great but you almost know what to expect. In my opinion Hozin has a much better groove. He has more of a hip hop style and it mixes it well with his popping. At times he tries to hit everything and it can be to much. But in some of his battles especially in the last 3 years it's stupid clean. Again I love Hoan for what Hoan does. There's no one better at killing a beat. But if you go back and watch Hozin vs Hoan you can definitely see the contrast in styles. I will say though Hoan in this last year has definitely changed some things up and as he develops it I think there's a lot he still has to give. Much respect for your channel I love your content. Keep doing your thing

agree with your point on Hoan, understand the few rounds were bit unfair but in away he kills it in his own way because its not his usual music, like you said you know what his gonna do, but some how he still amazes me, when ever I watch hoan's round if the music is good you know his gonna murder the song but still seems off his on beat but rarely become music, because he isn't naturally groovy/funky so when he does his "dance" some times its really hard to watch his legs getting better but the upper body still very stiff but hoan one of the best I just enjoy watching/learning, also Batalla is so nice

Hoan cannot actually dance but he can throw out party dances or grooves ideas collected over time that he can utilize and mix it up a little bs if you really look he stood still a lot or party dances and goes rb to popping and the boppin is pretty repetitive but hoan is a beast and I do think energy wise and performance wise he deserves it
