Yeah :( they got all bent afterwards… I should be able to fix them with some pliers and a file though, guess I’ll see! It was worth it though for my precious viewers

They also sell these without the battery so you can put your own 18650 in there. Also don't use tweezers
@KeonsLab
@KeonsLab Ай бұрын
Yeah I’m actually going to order one of those soon since they can charge USB-C laptops too! The only reason I even dare use tweezers without feeling unsafe is because I know exactly where the battery is located. I once accidentally dropped the power bank and it popped open, so that’s how I learned that it not only contained an 18650, but also where it was located so I could poke the bottom panel safely. If it was a Li-Po cell though I might not have even taken the risk because those things if punctured or abused are super fragile, incendiary packs of destruction. Now I DO have ~10 2.5Ah Li-Po cells, but they’re wrapped in bubble wrap and stored in non-airtight hard-shell cases, whenever I handle them I treat them as if they were that exploding crystal from breaking bad. (Fulminate of Mercury if I remember correctly) Unrelated but I LOVED breaking bad! It actually had a psychological impact on me to a degree (in a good way)

I found my first sand filled 18650's earlier this year! From a "20,000" man power bank bought from Ollie's. It had 5 18650 cans, 3 were sand filled with no tabs or wires. 2 were in parallel and hooked up
@KeonsLab
@KeonsLab 27 күн бұрын
REALLY!? So THAT’S what that fake 18650 I found was made of! It had like a cardboard casing that flexed literally like a thin cardboard tube full of sand would! It was from a new dollar store power bank and had 0 Volts on it, no brand new lithium ion battery should EVER be at 0V!!!
@manueldignani3510

it's a cheap powerbank, you can just replace the lithium battery with another 18650 cell as you want
@KeonsLab

Yeah, you’d get more capacity that way, but honestly the charge/discharging module included in it isn’t the best compared to others. It also gets really hot at least for me

Yeah I’m about to do the same with my battery discharge tester right now and update with the results today in another short. If they’re intentionally lying on the battery ‘labels’ about the cell capacity that is totally unacceptable EDIT: of ALL the days, my discharge tester stopped working today, of ALL THE DAYS. Anyways I contacted the company and if they don’t fix/replace it I’ll get a new one because that thing was really useful

@KeonsLab
@KeonsLab Ай бұрын
Yeah they should be totally fine to use, it does get really warm sometimes but safety-wise that isn’t an issue. I’ve opened about 10 of these before and on one occasion the battery was a counterfeit or something. It felt like cardboard, measured 0 Volts, and would flex when force was applied. It was so weird and I still don’t know how that would be possible.

The dangerous part is peeling off the spot welds 😂 I started doing this outside after the first one
@KeonsLab
@KeonsLab 25 күн бұрын
Good thinking, luckily these cheap dollar store quality spot welds were relatively easy to remove, but the welds they use in laptop battery packs for example are so good that sometimes you can’t even get the entire thing off. Last time I opened a laptop pack was maybe 2-3 years ago but I remember each cell had 4 spot welds per terminal, and they were REALLY fused to the metal too

@KeonsLab
@KeonsLab 27 күн бұрын
Oh nice! 50 cents is SUCH a good deal too!! I think the reason why it’s so much cheaper (sometimes) to get an 18650 via a power bank than somewhere like eBay is because dollar stores and Walmarts import SO many of them that it just kind of becomes a commodity.

@KeonsLab
@KeonsLab 25 күн бұрын
Well they did ‘save’ me twice when I needed my phone for directions on foot while on vacation, but yeah I totally agree, If you’re looking for an actual proper power bank, these ain’t it. But for me personally where I just get them for the batteries inside, $4 for a 1000mAh 18650 is a pretty good deal to me. Wall of Text Warning because I love batteries: LiPo cells though are super cheap, I can get 2500mAh ones from China free shipping and when I tested them they were the real deal. I just wish they weren’t so squishy and explosive or else I’d be using them so much more! Lithium ion batteries are so close to being the perfect battery, they’re kinda like gauge blocks the way 4V per cell makes it so easy to make all the combinations of common voltages: 12V, 16V, 24V, 36V, etc. just beautiful! And their super high energy densities make even the smallest of cells able to pack a punch. I Love lithium ion batteries, specifically 18650s so much! I read somewhere that apparently I could find good Samsung 18650s at a vape store or something because apparently vapes are powered by them which makes sense, I haven’t gone to one yet since it’d feel weird, but the prices are just so reasonable I think I’ll have to. I want fresh Samsung or LG 18650s SO badly! They’re high capacity, long lasting, and have such good discharge rates that they’re my go-to’s if Lead acid or Alkaline cells aren’t an option. The only Samsung or LG 18650s I have are from used laptop packs, and they’re still working really good, they still hold their charge for a long time, only thing is that their internal resistances are higher and their effective capacities are lower. Sorry for typing so much ☹️

@@KeonsLab that's alright! Not a problem ☺️ usually if I want to look for a powerbank for my phone, I would look for one that exceeds the mAh of my battery, so I know I'm going to get something with at least one full charge out of it. I would typically get ones made by Juice or Belkin or a similar reputable brand from large retail companies 😊

Yeah I usually go for power bank with at least 5000mAh since I also hate it when a power bank can’t fully charge up a device.

I used to steal these lol
@KeonsLab
@KeonsLab Ай бұрын
They’re extremely fairly priced though for that size battery. I personally could never use something in good conscience if I stole it. BUT one time I was at a hardware store looking at screws n stuff and in a bin there were poorly cut, rusty steel rods of what looked like very poorly cut rebar, ~1” dia. and ~2.75” long. The edge even looked like a saw blade had cut into it. Guess what the price tag was? $17!!! No way I’m paying $17 for an actual piece of construction site trash! So at the self checkout I entered the code for a $2.50 nail because that’s more than what that trash was worth. I wanted it to test out a model rocket parachute I was making. I admit I didn’t feel bad for that because I honestly think it was a mistake on their part, there’s no way that thing would’ve ever been priced at $17. But unless you need it to literally survive like food, stealing isn’t nice…

@KeonsLab
@KeonsLab 26 күн бұрын
Ah, so they’re falsely labelling their batteries are they? I’ve got a battery discharge tester, gonna charge up the battery, test it, and make another short with the results. If it’s actually true I bet that’s why they don’t advertise the capacity on the packaging, they don’t wanna be sued!
