si in my book it is written that guard cells perform photosynthesis by themselves while you just proposed solute from the mesophyll cells enters the guard cells.

During day time, the stored starch in guard cells is converted to simple sugars making the inside of guard cells hypotonic, causing water to enter from surrounding epidermal cells. This creates turgor pressure and stoma opens. Now CO2 entere through stoma. Photosynthesis occurs in the presence of water and CO2, glucose produces which further increases solute conc inside guard cells and turgor pressure maintains. During night, the synthesized sugar is utilized during respiration or any excess glucose is converted back to starch. As starch is insoluble in water decreasing solute conc in water. This creates inside environment of guard cells hypotonic causing water to leave guard cells and they become flaccid. As a result stoma closes.
