Lucky they were lenient with that one. Good way to get everyone watching to check their gear though. I still haven't had a chance to get out, im itching to connect with a couple this season

U don't need flares in the creek brus. Only if you're inshore or offshore, i thought? I might check that, though, 😂lol!

Yeah though the same but you have to go offshore a bit to get to some creeks.

In NSW flares required if you go more than 2 nautical miles offshore.

@abhooked yeah mate, I got four on Friday and four on Saturday fishing the run-off. All between 70 and 78cm except one was 58 on the dot. I was frothing for it like you haha, even did a 16 hour shift on Thursday so I could do a three dayer 🤙

Learnt something new, I didn't know you needed flares inshore. When did they change that rule, it use to be if you went 1 nautical mile offshore, you needed them.

I just looked at the regulations - Flares must be carried on all Queensland-registered ships, visiting interstate ships, ships under a restricted use authority and personal watercraft (PWC) that operate beyond smooth water limits, except for tenders that don’t need registration. Two orange smoke and 2 red hand flares are needed as part of the safety equipment for these boats.

Yeah some areas you can go 1nm and other places you can't and need flares, but had to travel out wide a bit to get in there which they knew I did, they were really good blokes tho didn't send me back to the boat ramp on the first day of barra season thank god. Just let me work my way back fishing 👍

Good vibes man! Question: how do the fisheries enforce Barra season if people are just catching and releasing? Like how do they prove it?

Good question Dylan, they can't but if your actively targeting them they can enforce penalties but how do you prove it 🤷‍♂️ location, fishing gear I wouldn't know. They do watch the pros netters alot out of season maybe call Fisheries they are good people up here they would be happy to help. But if you do catch one not on purpose you must release as soon as possible and try not to stress the fish out, it's just called "bycatch".
