What a locomotive! There's not much to say, other than that she might just quite possibly be the best A4 locomotive in OO gauge out there! Enjoy

Back in 2008 I had a big garage where I had set up a model railway. You could control all the points, lights, and engines from a square cut out in the middle. I moved and I had nowhere to set one up:\ But in June im moving back and i'll be starting a new model railway:D And this engine will be #1 on my list:D Thanks for inspiring me to get this model:) Keep up the reviews.

I just can't get enough of that sloped front on those trains, I started watching your videos simply because they were relaxing and I loved your enthusiasm, but the trains like this one, the royal ones etc. are just... stunning. Truly the most beautiful trains or any vehicle I've ever seen. It's led to me buying some trains of my own and learning a lot about the engineering and history behind these things. It's mind blowing! Keep up the lovely vids Will (I'm a Will too). You're great. :)

Ravzir I saw the original "Sparrowhawk" hauling a train of loose coupled coal wagons in the early '60s between Church Fenton and York. If it still existed today there is no way it would be asked to do that. I wonder, would more A4s have been saved if more people had been aware that they were styled by Bugatti ?

The Garter Blue shade is usually linked to the LNER A4 loco's and this shade of blue as BR Blue (White Lined) the same as the Hornby Merchant Navy "Canadian Pacific". Then you have the BR Green shade and Wartime or Mixed Traffic Black coloured A4's. The other four A4 loco's by LNER are the Sliver and Grey locomotives, Silver Link, Silver King, Sliver Fox and Quick Silver. I hope you find this helpful to you. PS: the sliding slots on the cab roof are ventilation openings for the driver and the fireman.

Sparrow hawk was actually withdrawn 19th june 1963 and cut up in 10th july 1963. Hornby got the info wrong. if the info had said "Sparrow Hawk enter service on 27th november 1937 and succumbed to the cutters torch on 10th july 1963" then it would be right.

The mysteries sound is her letting off steam because if the pressure is to high they always let off steam so Hornby, with the sound chip, is mimicking it. At least, I think so

To answer your question about the tender, not all A4s were fitted with corridor tenders. Some were, but others were not. As far as a comprehensive list of which A4s recieved corridor tenders or not, I can't say. For example, I believe number 60006 "Sir Ralph Wegwood" didn't receive a corridor tender either. Perhaps there were other examples at the great gathering at York?

Regarding the info on the real Sparrowhawk on the box, I think it more likely it was withdrawn November 63 as stated, but cut up in June 64 as opposed to 63, plenty of loco's spent some months stored between withdrawl and scrapping.

having just looked up sparrow hawk's lifespan, here's what the conclusion is: entered service 27 November 1937 and then withdrawn 19 June 1963. thought i should share that bit of information. again Will, i do agree that Hornby did make a slight error with that information and as we know, some information can be misleading. brilliant review all around though
@TroyTrevains
@TroyTrevains 11 жыл бұрын
The tender had corridor connections in late BR days, this livery tells you it is early BR days, therefore, it was after the war. That means the corridor connections hadn't been added yet. As LNER never built them with corridor connection, that was BR who added them around the 1950's, when the early crest was taken away and replaced with the late BR crest and was late BR days.

Hi Will, Like the review although it sounds as though its the first loco you've ever unpacked. I guess that's your enthusiasm! I got "Herring Gull" a couple of years ago and found that the exhaust chuffs per driving wheel revolution weren't right when the speed was increased so I adjusted cv 58 and it was fine. I've never really liked the sound of the whistle (the sounds on mine are identical to yours) so I've just rewritten the sounds on the loco decoder with my ESU LokProgrammer. I've put on some better sounding LNER A4 whistles. I've also adjusted my A4 (with cv 55) so that it goes at a top (scale) speed of about 126mph so that it performs like the original. The next project I have for this loco is fitting a smoke generator. A Seuthe 5mm one fits, all I have to do now is connect it with the decoder.
