Opening the Box of Delights was a conversation between award-winning writer, Piers Torday, and our senior specialist, Dr Phil Errington, about John Masefield’s fantasy novel, The Box of Delights.
After a brief introduction of Masefield and his fantasy novels, there’s a discussion of some key aspects of the novel, including flying cars, Masefield’s fusion of folklore with 1930s crime, and the influence of the book (watch out for a reference to Dr Who).
Naturally, there’s a short discussion of the Royal Shakespeare Company adaptation which forms their Christmas production in Stratford-upon-Avon.
