So I finally got my copy of the Deck of Many Things from WotC. So I figured I'd unbox it and see what the card situation looked like!

I got both my sets a few days ago; best 5e product released to date. Really hope this becomes the standard for high quality box sets that contain a rulebook. My deck came packed in plastic, all of the cards were in perfect condition, the guilt edge gold accents were gorgeous. Incredible product!!!

Its funny I live in the Netherlands, i got my version 6 days ago. i was send the OLD version , but with it i got a little white box with the new cards. The old cards in the box where also fine with no defects in or on them. So now i have 2 sets of cards.

same here, but one of the original sets of the three “decks” in the box is a bit smaller. but useable. (also Netherlands).

UK purchaser here. Mine arrived yesterday, ordered direct with WotC. I got everything delivered as original, the cards wrapped with paper. And a separate box with the new packaged decks, the box saying these were provided FOC due to issues. The original cards, albeit a little bit warped, are actually really good quality and same size! Keeping the newer decks sealed and will be using the original ones.

Cards with shrink are all from new printings. Cards held with paper strips are all from the original print run, where many were defective. It is possible tuck the outer flap in so you don't have to throw away the outer box. Leave in the large cardboard spacer so it will hold the card case out to the edge. Next, fold in the large flap before inserting anything else. Next insert the card case and book. Now you can close the lid and tuck the flap in. That's what I did with mine and it works okay.

I got my set today. Inside the box where the cards in paper wrappings, but I also got an additional small box with plastic sealed cards free of charge, in case the ones inside the set are damaged. I ordered the set at my local game store.

The old damaged version was also sold. Most of the damaged ones where sold through Amazon.

I wonder if they used a heat gun or something to loosen the glue to open it up without using the pull tab

This was my thinking. It wouldn't nessessarily be that hard to open it with the right tools. Some heat, a thin blade, and you could open and reseal those. It would massively suck if they had to open and then trash thousands of boxes. Just replacing the cards alone is a huge amount of waste.

My set arrived without that letter about 14 days ago (just after the new year). All the decks were sealed in plastic as seen in the video, and no additional contents were included as some comments alluded to in theirs.

You mention that you can’t see that the box is opened, but they could have repackaged the set is a new box.

After getting my messed up ones from Amazon, I went around to four different game stores looking for a copy. Unfortunately nobody had it. I eventually let one of them order a copy for me. I haven't heard anything about it yet, so no idea when I'll get them. But I returned my Amazon copy. Hopefully this was basically just an Amazon problem, and WoTC didn't intend to allow those copies to ship.

I got my set from Amazon on the 6th with original paper banding. All 3 sections were warped, the edges were damaged by the white tape, and the 3 decks weren't the same size to each other. I submitted a ticket and sent a tweet. The ticket said for me to wait and the tweet said to send in a ticket. It's a big bummer. Wizards just proving to me that I'm right for committing to no longer buying any of their products.

I opened mine without breaching the perforation, with a dull plastic/silicone nubby knife--- but it leaves some minor creasing and tell-tale signs on the cardstock when done. It also takes MUCH longer than I would expect anyone else to commit to.

What is the cardstock like? Is it going to survive prolonged use - because it would be costly to replace.

I'm bummed mine hasn't come into my FLGS yet. There were some shipping delays on everything for them right after new year. And Oregon (where I am) is stuck under 2 inches of ice!

I got mine finally and it was the paper wraped ones. I am currently in amazon return but it says I will get my new one at mid february.

I just got copy of the book of many things set today (it was sent from local gamestore yesterday). I had the paper band wrapped ones in the box (the LE cover), but they were all good cards (no warping or misalignment). Gonna give the set of "replacement" cards that I also got with set to my brother, since he might have a use for them rather than just have 2 sets myself since i don't need that.

Just got mine yesterday (1/15/24). Cards in plastic and perfectly cut with gold edges.😅 I did manage to open it with a tool, I have, at the adhesion strip. It is aggresive glue, as it remains sticky and active and will restick if the surfaces touch. Goo Gone will remove it, but it was a 2 hour process to keep the box intact without unzipping. 😮 P.S. ordered at hobby store months ago.

I ended going to one of the game stores by a friends house after Amazon sent me a set with bad cards. The game store copy was the new/updated packaging and the cards look fabulous. I will probably be going there in the future for my D&D/TTRPG items now. Lesson learned...

Got mine last week. Cards are still not great quality imo. Basically cardboard with almost no protective coating youd find on normal playing cards and even tarot cards.
