Thanks! The MPU9250 is part of the GY-91 board and the wiring can be seen at 09:11. The connections and setup of an autopilot with pypilot is certainly a video that would interest many people, including myself :) If I can get it to work, I'll post a video. This video was extremely helpful. I just wanted to make everyone aware of a few things. First, there is a nasty bug with the latest Raspberry Pi kernel. If you update the Raspberry Pi OS (sudo apt-get update, etc) and you have the I2C interface enabled it will brick your Pi: forum.openmarine.net/showthread.php?tid=2633. There is a workaround, but probably worth waiting for RPI to fix the kernel. On a more positive note, you can now officially boot your Raspberry Pi from USB without an SD card. It is a little bit of work, but ultimately worth it for me. I have my main Open Plotter booting from a hard drive and I'll use an SD card as a backup. In the future, I might have a couple USB flash drives as backups and one to hold all the charts, etc. Here is a link to the video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/prCUfKphr521f3U.html

Good video overall, but there are some inaccuracies. For instance, you most certainly can use MicroSD cards larger than 32GB. Also, if you'll also be running anything with a lot of disk IO (such as home-assistant...yes, it works on boats, too), then you'll probably want to boot off of a USB thumb drive, or (better yet), a USB SSD drive, as the Micro SD cards are NOT very reliable in high-IO situations. I'm currently using a 40 GB SSD, and running HAAS (for automation and security), on top of Docker, on a rPi 4+. The flexibility is amazing, and there's plenty of processing power for managing it all. Docker allows multiple systems to be running simultaneously as well, without stepping on each other's toes.
@smartsailingboat8812
@smartsailingboat8812 3 жыл бұрын
Correct, you can find an updated installation guide in one of my other videos. I'm using an NVME connected to USB3 myself, it's indeed faster and more stable. Thanks for the tips on HAAS and Docker!

Great video! and perfect timing as I have been working on building one out. I saw you have SDR AIS 2.0.0-dev installed and it's showing in your OpenPlotter Apps table. How did you install that?
@smartsailingboat8812
@smartsailingboat8812 4 жыл бұрын
Hi. Glad you like it. Indeed, the SDR AIS is something many people are looking forward to, but it's not ready yet at the moment. So I downloaded it from Github and had to compile it manually. You can get it here: github.com/openplotter/openplotter-sdr-vhf The README.md explains it quite well. You may get some warnings, in which case you'll have to download some dependencies. Other than this it's pretty straightforward.

Still in 2020, Linux and all open source software made for normal people sucks. This is no problem for me as a computer engineer with 25 years of experience but for a normal 50-70 year old person that tries this it's not going to work. Not even consider that your tutorial can't be followed unless they use the exact same hardware and software versions. There will be missing downloads, new names, settings has moved, etc etc. Someone should make an installer that simply asks questions until it's done, which still is impossible due to the reasons mentioned above. And, if you are going to buy a 12" high resolution 1000nits touch screen for this, the price will be about the same as a Raymarine or Garmin plotter.
