I got some kind of train bug recently and found this series searching for OpenTTD content on KZfaq. It's an old series, but from the moment you first laid 60k£ worth of track in the opening minutes and called it your main line, I knew it was what I was looking for. I noticed you have a more recent series and I may check it out later, but so far I'm really liking this one.

i used to play this game when i was about 9. I always used to think that monorail trains would appear all around the UK in about the year 2000? as they do in the game. Im still waiting.

This video helped me out more than watching other peoples tutorials and this isnt even a tutorial. Great lets play.

As someone else pointed out, key shortcuts will save you a lot of time. I'll mention my favourite one: When placing a signal (or using an existing one), hold ctrl while you drag a couple of tiles in the direction you want and let go of the mouse button, you will automatically place signal all the way to the end of the track or the next junction. Saves a lot of dragging, especially on very long lines.

You asked what your viewers would like to see. I would love to see a full fledged Auto-Train-Boat-Airline network. I mean full cross map shipping using multiple types of transport, if possible. Profitable, of course.

Having played this game for a few months now, this video has changed how I play it. I never played the original so it was new-ish to me when I first got it. I looked online for tutorials on station layouts and signal placement and what sort to use. I watched this video and you put everything so simply. Described what signals go where etc. I copied your stations, junctions and that sort of thing and got a fairly big company built up. Currently sat at 1989 with £27 million in the kitty. I may restart a new map and do it again as I can adjust some planning errors I have made. Well done on the videos and I will watch your others now. :)

You can make it so the signals are on the left [for UK] in the setup menu...makes it more aesthetic. Try and slow down a bit to make less mistakes...lol Good gameplay.....enjoyed it.

The first station wasn't in the coal catchment area

the hardest thing in this game is that youhave to change every old vehicle and u have to make a path by yourself

also, 2 longer trains for that distance would be better, i get 90% station rate ... much better than cloging your stations with smaller trains

Dude, the very first station you place, the catchment area doesn't even include the power station. You really gotta be more careful with your placement. Also, building diagonals to your main line is more efficient, especially on a very smooth map, and not crossing the main line will help prevent slow downs in the future.

I know this video is old but I learned how to play this game, recently, because of your tutorials. Did you know that in the settings you can change it so you can build and do other things while paused? I'm not sure if you didn't know this or that you consider it cheating. Either way I find it easier to do maintenance on train tracks without stopping all the trains up and losing profit. Anyway thanks for showing me how this game works.

Something I don't understand is: Why ever use any other signal than the glorious path-signal/oneway-pathsignal?

Hi MH. I know you might already be aware of this but it kind of hurt my OCD to watch you put your tracks close together as you did so I made you a picture of what can be achieved to improve your capacity. It's not perfect with both the signalling and the sharpness of turns but should give you and others some ideas about what can be achieved by spacing your tracks out more. It would of course be a lot better an idea if we could make diagonal tunnels and bridges and make diagonal sloped track (which I think is a really needed feature in the game!). As you can see in the picture it gets better for flow the more you space out the tracks (look at the bottom track spacing). Anyway here's the picture I made for you: i.imgur.com/kzrGxXC.jpg I realise that the flaw in this approach is that you obviously use a lot more space doing this but I find being able to have my trains cross into another one way track going the same direction without stopping the flow in the opposite direction really improved my capacity and flow which in turn yields a higher profit.
