You guys know that I LOVE Nightwish, at least everything you have recommended so far, so Iand after a moth of orpea and classical singing during my trip to Italy, this band was the perfect hybrid of Metal and Opera/classical to ge me back in the groove. SO.. lets watch this together shall we?

One of my favorite songs from Nightwish. Oh, who am I kidding, they're all my favorite songs, depending on which one I'm listening to. Every single band member a true professional, at the top of their game. So many things to love about this song. Jukka bashing those drums like he is trying to destroy them, Floor stalking the mike, Marko carefully smoothing down his mustache and beard just before he goes into one of his roars. Emppu and Tuomas driving the beat. But, most of all, the music that this group of magnificent players produce is almost otherworldly. A band that respects its fans, and fans who respect the band.

It is A Tribute to the poem in 52 chapters, One for every week of the year, " Song of myself " by Walt Whitman 1819-1892.(one of the co-founders of US poetry). The 7th line of the song is ""Of mermaids, of Whitman's and the Ride""". The extended official studio version of this song has, at the end, a poem as a tribute to Whitman made by Tuomas, the keyboard player and the mastermind of nightwish. These lines you can also see fast flahing on the ledscreen of the video you just saw. Bucle up, it goes very deep. " I see a slow, simple youngster by a busy street With a begging bowl in his shaking hand Trying to smile but hurting infinitely Nobody notices I do, but walk by An old man gets naked and kisses a model-doll in his attic It's half-light and he's in tears When he finally comes his eyes are cascading I see a beaten dog in a pungent alley He tries to bite me All pride has left his wild drooling eyes I wish I had my leg to spare A mother visits her son, Smiles to him through the bars She's never loved him more An obese girl enters an elevator with me All dressed up fancy A green butterfly on her neck Terribly sweet perfume deafens me She's going to dinner alone That makes her even more beautiful I see a model's face on a brick wall A statue of porcelain perfection beside a violent city kill A city that worships flesh The first thing I ever heard Was a wandering man telling his story It was you, the grass under my bare feet The campfire in the dead of the night The heavenly black of sky and sea It was us Roaming the rainy roads Combing the gilded beaches Waking up to a new gallery of wonders every morn Bathing in places no-one's seen before Shipwrecked on some matt-painted island Clad in nothing but the surf Beauty's finest robe Beyond all mortality we are Swinging in the breath of nature In early air of the dawn of life A sight to silence the heavens I want to travel where life travels Following its permanent lead Where the air tastes like snow music Where grass smells like fresh-born Eden I would pass no man, no stranger, no tragedy or rapture I would bathe in a world of sensation Love, Goodness, and Simplicity (While violated and imprisoned by technology) The thought of my family's graves was the only moment I used to experience true love That love remains infinite As I'll never be the man my father is How can you "just be yourself" When you don't know who you are? Stop saying "I know how you feel" How could anyone know how another feels? Who am I to judge a priest, beggar, whore, politician, wrongdoer? I am, you are, all of them already Dear child, stop working, go play Forget every rule There's no fear in a dream "Is there a village inside this snowflake?" A child asked me "What's the color of our lullaby?" I've never been so close to truth as then I touched its silver lining Death is the winner in any war Nothing noble in dying for your religion For your country For ideology, for faith For another man, yes Paper is dead without words Ink idle without a poem All the world dead without stories Without love and disarming beauty Careless realism costs souls Ever seen the Lord smile? All the care for the world made Beautiful a sad man? Why do we still carry a device of torture around our necks? Oh, how rotten your pre-apocalypse is All you bible-black fools living over nightmare ground I see all those empty cradles and wonder If man will ever change I, too, wish to be a decent manboy But all I am Is smoke and mirrors Still given everything, may I be deservin And there forever remains That change from G to E minor. "

R.I.P Ann Waychoff mother of the Nightwish Army. June 28th, 2020 This is your song. If you ever have to explain the Groove in Metal to someone - play this tune. Until the Breakdown hits you with a 10 ton hammer it is all fun and games. But then the slow chugging monster with the machine gun riffing takes over. And for every Metal Head this lights up the day. Awesome….Imho one of the best songs ever. Sometimes the sky is piano black…. Floor Jansen, First of Her Name, Queen of the Valkyries and Stonehenge, Lady of Nightwish and Protector of our Metal Realm. Long may she reign. Bow, mortal !

No 2 in my favourites list. Marco is superb - I love his second entry (the rising gliss) so much I extracted it and have it as my ringtone. Favourite parts: Piano Black , and particularly the best description of depression I've heard - "sometimes the within is piano black". Piano black - that deep glossy black that almost evades the eye. Emppu holding that long note one-handed as he drinks a Corona. The unexpected pauses (rests) towards the end, particularly, in this performance, when Floor turns her hands upwards and the flames seem to come from her palms. Great chuggy rhythms in the breakdown. Little pizzicato string sections in the run-up to that ending. At the end the lead vocals use the same lyrics as the choir are singing in the earlier parts - "All that great heart lying still and slowly dying All that great heart lying still on an angelwing". That lyric is perfect for the staccato rhythm. ...and lots more

And I love Nightwish as well, so I can't wait to see where you go with their music. If you'd like the operatic Floor, try Shoemaker from the Human:Nature album (best do the lyrics video). Great comments. Symphonic metal tends to be epic and theatric by its nature - as well as the obvious orchestral layers, the songs tend to be very much narrative driven which seems to make songs into productions. I think that part of what makes Floor so great is that she doesn't just sing, but embodies the music in a way which is very uninhibited and very hard to look away from.

For another symphonic metal band, I can strongly recommend Within Temptation. They've been around about as long as Nightwish, and though their overall style is a good bit less varying, they're still an amazing band. There's also the Black Symphony concert where they played live with the Metropole Orchestra in Rotterdam 🥰 There's also quite a bit of overlap between fans of Nightwish and Sabaton... Not one bit operatic, it's (arguably) power metal, but their twist is that they're singing (almost) entirely about history, varius stories that are rarely brought up in history class, but are absolutely deserving to be told. Maybe not the best representation of their style, but still a really good starting point - in my opinion - is "Christmas Truce" (three guesses as to which historical event _that_ might be about 😝), and you _might_ notice something familiar towards the end... 😇

I think she still looks top notch with a little shorter hair and still goes for the "windmils",so, not much change there.😉🤘

There are a lot of short-haired or even shaven-headed people in metal bands, usually the drummer (which I always thought made sense, because it almost seems like an athletic choice: "To keep my hair from getting in the way") or the lead vocalist, (where it seems like more of a stylistic choice.) I'm sure there are bands where that's predominant, but it seems like it's usually just one or two people, and everybody else goes for the traditional longhair look...Sometimes, guys make a mid-career switch, but that's usually out of necessity...

9-44 Having long hair for a woman in the field of hard music is not a condition, for example Gail Ann Dorsey with her haircut also managed it (guitarist and backing vocals for David Bowie or Lenny Kravitz), or the singer Skin from Skunk Anansie 😊

Tuomas loves to use odd meters and switch them around , sometimes even after a single bar. [edit] It's not a requirement to have long hair. Hansi Kürsch from "Blind Guardian" has regular hair, in fact if you meet him on the street you would guess he's a librarian of something similar. His band is more Power Metal though.

Big Nightwish fan here. If your looking for some other metal bands to check out I would recommend TOOL the song 46 and 2 or the song the pot. Also SYSTEM OF A DOWN the song Toxicity. Then there is the all time greats LED ZEPPELIN the song stairway to heaven. Hope you enjoy these.

Given the titel you wrote on this clip I'd rsuggest you also see some more recent stuff, like Dead boy's poem and Getsemane, both from Buenos Aires some 5years ago. But of course, the list is endless....

A great reaction to one of my favorites. Heh, who am I kidding, they're all my favorites. Anyway, nice job MC's just maybe one thing though, get a good set of headphones or earbuds. The music sounds better and viewers don't get the echo from the mic. Also while the perspective is interesting your video is mirrored so we see Tuomas on the right instead of the left.

You need to check out Epica - design your universe live retrospect... They are like nightwish but even better, and play with a full orchestra 😉

The atmosphere in the band was completely different 10 months before. The band was dead because they had estranged with their singer on the current tour and didn't have a singer anymore. Floor saved the band back then. Here she had already agreed to be the new singer in the band. Metal comes from wanting to play the heaviest, wildest hard rock. You want to be a rebel and the long hair suits that. Metal is established today. Long hair is a tradition, but not a must. The song has two meanings: First, it is a homage to the American poet Walt Whitman and his Song of Myself. On the other hand, it is part of the album/film music Imaginaerum. The main character is dying trying to write down to his daughter what he never told her. But he's too ill to finish it. A collection of quotes follows in the studio version. Unfortunately they only played this song on the Imaginaerum Tour. It is uncertain when the next tour will take place. There will be no tour for the next album because the band wants a break. Floor will be touring with her solo program. Maybe she'll come to America with it. Floor Jansen - Me Without You (Live at @RadioVeronica)

Surely you being an opera singer, someone has to have told you that Floor has done some of that and is classicaly trained. If interested, here is her performance of Puccini: O mio babbino caro - De Tiende van Tijl, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i8uErKSL2byZp30.htmlsi=XIgn8sn6242GXVGA.

"Is having long hair a requirement for being in a metal band? (asking for a friend)" LOL!! Nope, not a requirement. Here is an awesome metal band at Wacken where the lead singer is bald. Also the live orchestra has "normal" length hair! I've never before seen a classical-looking orchestra having such a darn fun time playing the music, including the conductor. Head banging on the violin! LOL. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j5aWhqWLpruchJ8.html

Regarding the hair length. A very old video with Tarja kzfaq.info/get/bejne/etN0nNBi277JdZs.html . No Marko in the band yet. And I have read that it was Marko who criticised the length of thair hair and suggested that they should move about the stage.

Regarding the necessity to have long hair to be in a metal band: „Ayreon - The Day that the world breaks down“ features several metal singers and might give you an answer. Oh, and opens up another rabbit hole…..

Long hair is not a requirement, but somehow it feels it gives some plausibility 😊 With that said, Floor cut her hair short this year, but it didn't affect her plausibility. And, I think you should try to sing with a metal band. Maybe just a one project or so, but I think it could be a great experience. But where to find a musicians that are capable to produce something even remotely close to Nightwish? Elizabeth from "Charismatic Voice" channel just did a "nightwish" song with Nik Noctural. You should check that out, it was great fun. Then I have a suggestions. #1 You should definitely use headphones while doing these reactions. It makes a world difference for you and us. #2 I don't think flipping a video will help with copyright issues. #3 Only way to monetize these reaction videos is, that you get Patreons or use service like "Buy Me a Coffee". I listen to a lot of bands, but what metal bands are familiar to you...if any? I can give a you a lot of suggestions, like some kind of metal 101 for noobies 🙂

Maybe it's time to meet 5 beautiful ladies in high heels and dresses playing classic heavy metal? For starters, I recommend the song Break the Wall from their earlier albums. Boasting over 70 hit singles, they won Best New Metal Band at the Metal Hammer Awards in 2018. The girls play heavy, thrash, power and prog metal, they also have some beautiful ballads - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7aTY7t8ldKynYk.html

We also love Nightwish, especially because their appearance, mimicry, pyrotechnics, light color, music and lyrics form one whole, while they are not tempted to do so in a simple, straightforward pop music style, but really tell their story. That makes every next song completely different from the previous one. Besides Nightwish I am also a fan of the band: Within Temptation with singer Sharon den Adel, especially their "Black Symphony" live concert. Watch "Somewhere" ft. Anneke van Giersbergen. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bcuhddB2tJuxeHk.html But also the band Epica with singer Simone Simons is great. Watch their performance of "Rivers" at AFAS live kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bc-dg6-e27LdgXU.html
