The conclusion to this original short animated film (combined with "Mr. Toad") is one of the scariest things the Disney studio ever put on film...but no singing. Just maniacal laughter.

Disney's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is a timeless classic. Their version of the Headless Horseman is seriously one scary motherf@#$er.

Disney's sleepy hollow terrified me as a little girl. When i saw the headless horseman late in the film.... I had nightmares for months. To this day this version of the horseman scares me

Thanks! I saw this in the movies, as part of a much longer animation, sometime in the 1950's. In the full version, the Headless Horseman that scares Ichabod Crane into leaving Sleepy Hollow for good is really Brom Bones (the guy telling the tale) in disguise. He no longer has to deal with Ichabod getting in the way as he woos Katrina. Or so we are led to infer. 🐴

This cartoon is pretty true to the original story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving, although the original gets much darker with a more sinister ending. But this is Disney, so there's that. Washington Irving was a writer from the early 1800's and had a series of stories about spooky happenings around the Catskill area of NY state. He is also the author of Rip Van Winkle, and several more short stories of this nature.

I totally loved that animated film when I saw it as a kid. The Horseman himself has this big, booming and evil laugh that I never forgot once I heard it.

The story behind this animation ranks up there with Edgar Allen Poe's the Tell tale heart. Johnny Depp was in a movie about the headless horseman called "Sleepy Hollow" Might be a good movie night selection. 🐴

A great choice for a Halloween song. For another scary one, try 'Jersey Devil' by Kevin Welch. Some of my favorite Christmas songs are 'Mary's Boy-Child' by Harry Belafonte, 'Dear Senor Santa Claus' by Jim Reeves, and 'The Peace Carol' by John Denver and the Muppets."

There has been argument for decades among animation fans and Disney historians over whether or not Crosby also did the Horseman's curdling laugh. Preponderance of opinion seems to be yes, it was Crosby. But there are strong arguments to the contrary. Fun debate ;).

Okay, first, how have you never seen this before recording this video? Second, fun fact: Katrina Van Tassel looks like Cinderella because they were developed at about the same time, so Cinderella's design was copied almost directly from Katrina, as Ichabod and Mr. Toad was released in 1949, Cinderella in 1950.
