Henning May is using his voice like this since many years. Annenmaykantereit started of singing on the streets of Cologne while still beeing in school. A lot of originals and very unique covers are worth to bei listened to. Right now they are in tour. Great perfomances

The song is a cover of Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner (1987). This is a collaboration of two German bands: In the first room AnnenMayKantereit are playing and Henning May (deep raspy voice) is their singer. And in the second room Giant Rooks are playing, Frederik Rabe is their singer. A little later AnnenMayKantereit join them. The guys of AnnenMayKantereit are the older ones.. AMK does mostly German songs, Henning can also sing without that rasp, his voice is amazing, but I like Frederiks voice even more. Giant Rooks do English songs, even though they are Germans as well. Great reaction and yes, you pronounced AnnenMayKantereit correctly. That’s the name of the first band, whose lead singer has the low raspy voice. The second band (in the second room) is Giant Rooks, led by Frederic Rabe. Both bands are German.

I now watch the reaction videos just for that initial shock… it’s never disappointing!

In 2019 I was at a concert of the band AMK. Before there part Giant Rooks played. After one of these concerts together they jammed to "Tom's Diner" ... I love the final product!

That's cool !!! I like that they've given the song a slightly new spin. I love the original song by Susan Vega. However it has inspired so many cover versions that it's almost becoming a category of its own. And many of them are really interesting and good.

The guy in the “hat” is Kantericht, the drummer from the other room. The guitar is Annum and the deep singer is May (pronounced my.) the second band is the Giant Rooks. Their lead singer is Fl Rabbe (the high voice) great collaboration

I would love to hear you reat to this songs as well. 1st Roxanne - AMK feat Milky Chance (another great collab) 2nd Barfuß am Klavier (Henning solo) 3rd Du bist anders (Henning, Cristopher and a guitar) 4th Pocahontas (probably their biggest single here in germany)

Both bands are great and it was a nice surprise to find out about them too. I think another familiar song by Suzanne Vega is "Luka". I always listened to it not really knowing what it meant. Then, I read that she wrote the song about a boy, Luka, who was undergoing a tough childhood and abuse, but pretending that everything is fine. These 2 songs ("Tom's Diner" and "Luka") were always vaguely familiar when they were played on the radio or in cafes, but I never knew what they were called until many years later.

Actually good to see, two German bands, basically founded during their school days to receive some international recognizion. I love Henning May´s voice, the raspy one. But actually I watched the Giant Rooks opening concert for the current tour just 2 months ago and the singer of Giant Rooks is live way better than this vidoe shows.
