When I was a child in the 50's, there was a man who would sing opera in this lot in the middle of our apartments about 9 am in the morning. He sang beautifully. People would throw coins down to him. I felt so bad because he was so poor. I use to think he could be rich if he could sing on television.

I disagree with the quote. I hated opera as a kid. I was an angry young man, rebellious, stubborn, and the music I wanted to listen to was exactly like that: loud, angry, powerful. I took an art history course in high school mainly because it was the only available elective at the time slot I had to fill, and it was with a teacher who had torn me up in a previous English lit course. It was masterful, beautiful, and opened my eyes to what art really is and why so much of what we call the classics are as great as their reputations. We read fine literature, studied fine art from all over the world, and listened to opera. But as an angry, young man, the best I could do was acknowledge it took talent to produce. Decades later, after having lived some life and faced the consequences of some of that angry, young behavior, I came back to opera. I was in love with a woman who appreciated fine arts and loved the symphony. It was only then with a truly open mind and open heart that I really understood it. You can learn to love it, even if you don't start off that way. I don't love all of it, but there are certainly performances that will take you on an unforgettable journey if you let them.
@Renn1sm3 жыл бұрын
Not really. When I was 'young' I used to hate opera, I think it's rubbish. But, now I love it. Same with jazz music. I used to think it's gibberish music, but now I'm enjoying it so much. So people's preference & taste can change during time... It's not always about 'the first time'

@@zzzzz4203 it isn’t necessarily the fear of dying for oneself… but fear of infecting friends and family. It’s fact that everyone, even younger people, could be exposed to the virus and pass it to someone else, despite being asymptomatic or suffering from just a few symptoms. Those who get it from them might not be so lucky. We just passed 600 thousand deaths in the U.S. from Covid. (Edited- accidentally typed 600 million deaths…)
@NorseForse3 жыл бұрын
@@CindyL4261 600,000. Six hundred *thousand* have died from CoVid19 thus far in the US. Not "600 million." (600,000,000.) Not to minimize the pandemic death toll- 600,000 is still a LOT of deaths. So many of them preventable. Just setting the record straight with the numbers.

The fact that anyone in their unit paused, froze, listened, applauded…. This is a moment caught on film where you understand “humanity”. This and the first vids from China at the end of 2019/start of 2020 where they were flashing their lights at each other from apartment complexes just to send eachother the message tnat “youre not alone”….this makes me sob just realizing how much love our species has for one another, yet we seem to constantly seek to harm instead. Embrace the heart you just felt lurch during this video and remember kindness. Always be kinder. Kinder everyday.
