The village of Ivankiv, north of Kyiv, got under Russian occupation in the first days of the full-scale war. Now the bridge over the river Teteriv is destroyed here, the outskirts of Ivankiv are dotted with broken Russian equipment, trenches and dugouts.
As early as February 25-26, the first wounded civilians, who were struck by shrapnel, began arriving at the local hospital. The hottest day here was March 14, when people began to come here from the shelling in neighboring villages.
Despite looting, Ivankiv itself remained relatively intact. Locals say it was allegedly because local surgeons operated on someone from the Russian command who was wounded in fighting nearby. They had to operate under the barrels of machine guns.
Now the village is gradually coming back to life. Instead of being wounded by shrapnel, those who were blown up by Russian mines and streamers are now coming to the hospital - so here peole are once again asked to wait for the demining of the territory.
Our journalists visited Ivankiv and talked to locals about how they managed to survive under Russian occupation.
