Nice video of a Type VII Uboat in relatively good condition. It is equipped with the round type snorkel which were used later in WW2.

Unlike so many submarines of all nations that were lost with their crews, the U-boats of operation dead light were surrendered boats that were then scuttled by the allies after the war.

Great video 📹 😊 I'm slowly working my way towards becoming a rebreather diver. I'd like to go on dives like these and film. I do mostly rec diving now and a little bit of tec diving. I have two Black Tip tech scooters that I use when I'm filming. Very good video!!! 😊😊😊

This was an Operation Deadlight Uboat, so no submariners died on this Uboat. But during WW2 German submariners were the only group of fighting men who had a higher mortality rate than Kamikazi pilots.

@@CitymanIreland The opening scenes of the film Das Boot tell us there were 40,000 Kreigsmarine Uboat men, of which 30,000 perished. I doubt there was ever 30,000 Kamikazi Pilots in total, and by definition since it was a suicide mission, 100% of them should have died. We know a few did not. I'd suggest your comparison is inaccurate and misleading to compare UBoat men and Kamikazi fliers since the UBoat men did aspire to living. However a similar attrition rate was sustained in RAF Bomber Command to the German UBoat arm. That is in the history books. Of any four men, three would die.
@CitymanIreland
@CitymanIreland Жыл бұрын
@@alexwild4350 That claim was made by a researcher on a television programme I was involved with & I assume that he did his research properly. He spoke of the rate (or percentage) mortality of German Submariners. Comparison of Kamikazi pilots is obviously not the same since the pilots were signed up to die - but they did a long training course and had to wait their pick. I have no reason to doubt the researcher's claim, but would be interested to get some numbers.
@alexwild4350

@@CitymanIreland A query to Wikipeadia turned up this page - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamikaze which in the first paragraph suggests that the total number of Kamikaze pilots to die was 3,800. Of interest is the Kamikaze pilot who returned from his 9th mission was shot dead when he landed. Of note in the Wiki article is the proposed 'thorough' training of Pilots was considered wasteful because the pilots would in principle only make one combat flight. The Japanese airforce was reluctant to use what few skilled and capable pilots they had left, but in the end even these went in because the supply of serviceable aircraft, fuel and the superiority of Allied aircraft left little alternatives as the Allies continued with speed to advance towards Japan.

Not much of the outer hull is left, except for the pressure hull.
@CitymanIreland

It's fairly normal for the outer hull to be disintegrated and the pressure hull to be intact. Pressure hull must be made a lot thicker.
@crufflerdoug
@crufflerdoug Жыл бұрын
This is also true of the U-352, which is a relatively easy wreck dive off of North Carolina in the US. Very little of the outer hull is left. I was told the pressure hill was not only thicker, but made of higher grade steel that was more resistant to corrosion etc.

A little thought for the souls, locked up there for 80 years in its carcass placed on barely 67 small meters deep. Died for a cause that brought their country to ruin and Europe to chaos. Peace to the soul of all the soldiers, the heroes, fallen in the field of honor, doesn't matter in the end, under which flags they are beaten. They are there, aligned under white crosses and or as well as the vestiges which lock them away from theirs for eternity, the necessity of maintain peace at all costs, everywhere on our planet. And that we must all fight together to get there, hand in hand and even if the human is the worst enemy of the human, the majority of us are there and only want to live in peace, where we live and this , despite differences that some see as a problem but which makes our strength, that of humanity, for what it is and what it represents for all of us. P.S : Thx for the video , by chance the sea have clear visibility on this one wreck , it's not the case for some.

The Germans made a heroic effort in the late war to defeat the Bolsheviks of the Soviet Union and its allies. Operation Barbarossa pre-empted the USSR's own Operation Icebreaker, the invasion of Central and Western Europe, which was scheduled for July 1941. If it wasn't for the armies of the German Third Reich, millions of Europeans would have been tortured and liquidated by the Communists, as was customary when the Reds took over. I lost Polish family members who were starved and frozen to death at the Soviet Gulag at Archangel, near the Arctic Circle, in 1940.

The U.S. Navy lost a total of 52 subs during WW2 while Germany lost nearly 800 with wrecks scattered all over the globe and in every. ocean. It therefore should come as no surprise, when divers find them. Indeed they're nothing more than human seashells.
