It is a crime that has lately dominated national headlines with shocking revelations emerging of how one operative, now deceased, made booming business out of it. We ARE talkin about drink spiking, a criminal act where someone puts alcohol or drugs into another person’s drink without their knowledge. Kenyans call it ’Mchele’ in reference to rice-like pellets used by perpetrators of the crime. Tonight, with the help of an informer and former insider, a lady who had been in the trade for over three years before quitting, Citizen TV's Ben Kirui takes you inside the dark world of the drink spiking menace and reveals how easily the drugs used are acquired from unscrupulous medical practitioners. Good reporting, but some discretion should be exercised so that you are not at the same time advertising the drugs... the story would still have made sense if you didn't list the names of the drugs; there is a reason why doctors scribble prescriptions (discretion to avoid self-medication). The effect of this might be the rise of isolated random cases of this abuse...

Brings back very bad memories of how some stupid men drugged me in Umoja Peacock club, thank God l fought my way out of the club and hurriedly rushed home before l blacked out immediately after entering my bed sitter house… the next few days were hell on earth … thank God l survived

A friend of ours some years back was put for the damn Mchele in his drink. He had taken a loan that day and decided to relax kiasi in a popular ohangla joint at the Nyayo stadium then with a bevy of beauties. He was found unresponsive foaming, dumped in a trench far away from the joint. Minus his loan.
