Wonderful indigenous plant that chickens love: Chenopodium (Lambs Quarters) leaves & seeds (also good in a skillet with onions and eggs for people), sunflowers, squashes & pumpkins, easy and copious growers, but your mileage may vary. Love what you share!

It is easy to grab the chickens at night when it is dark. Also, I grow 5 varieties of peppers and the only one they eat the leaves off is Aji Dulce. I had to fence the chickens out as they were so aggressivly eating them.

I chuckled at your comment about the coop - My Dad once said to me "You can't see it from the highway" and trust me, I have used it a few times since. This statement would apply here. Interesting way to move the birds - I simply wait until they have roosted for the night for about an hour or so, then go in with a headlamp only and scoop them off the roost, put into a box and carry them to the new coop. I let them go and they wakeup in the new coop. I introduce new birds the same way. Just thought I'd share incase you were not aware. I found the information about this channel vs X interesting and can't help but wonder if some event or series of video's caused the lack of engagement on this channel. But none the less, I wish you well on those platforms.

Your dominant rooster will inspect and give the all clear before the rest come. I had 4 roosters they all worked together under the hierarchy of the dominant rooster who would inspect the food and then all the roosters would stand guard while the hens ate first. They have more manners than most people, I realized. Lol

I whistled every time I fed my chickens from the time they were chicks until adulthood. Rain or shine, day or night, if I whistled, they flew and ran to where I was ... without fail. I could run and they'd chase me. No work to train them, no time to train them. Just whistled.

I have been forage-feeding my chickens for quite a few years now. I am in the Ozarks Zone 6. I am inspired by the greenhouse for chicken hangouts as they spend too much time in the 3 sided barn with the cows in the winter. I get eggs in flushes, like my cows when I was milking. The milk and eggs tell you the quality of the pasture.

All of your vids are informative / entertaining! This has to be my favorite! I am in Northern Ohio & just started my flock this year. Out of 6, I have 3 layers, so will need to figure out who the meat birds are! Love your winter coop! Keeping it real on construction! My land is anything but flat, so good to see how you manage it! About 30 miles from E.Palestine, OH, & propagated mushrooms, sunflowers to deal with it. Will miss you here, but will check out your other platforms. Blessing to you & family!🙏

I haven't been able to watch lately due to getting ready for winter. Trying to build a tiny house in Central Illinois and not ready for -10° yet. Anyway, I'll follow you whereever, Curtis. I'm primarily on KZfaq, but a lot of people I follow have moved to Rumble because of censorship. S2 Underground is working on an alternative ghost net communication system. I am trying to learn how to do that, too. I found you, because of off grid, but stick around for all the Gravy.

hi! i watched a couple of your greenhouse videos... and there is an important subject you didnt mention (or i missed it): planning/building permissions. i googled it... and as far as i can tell you need a permission in bc to build anything. in your videos it sounds like your doing whatever you want / dont need any permission / have no visits from building inspectors etc. im german.. and you cannot build a shed here without a civil engineer and/or an architect planning or approving it. so i would be really interested to learn how it works in canada / bc.

@@offgridcurtisstone I'm glad you enjoy it. I'm only twenty so I haven't built a life here for me yet. Maybe if I had a nice set up like you that I worked hard on for many years I would be a little more attached. I bought 6 off grid acres here in NB but I've realized I need a lot more money to homestead from scratch then I thought. I know the trades are talked up a lot, but as a framer in Moncton, the ceiling is low here for wages which is discouraging. We also have very high taxes. love your story, you really did "pull yourself up by the bootstraps", very inspiring. I would like to leave here due to us being one of the most expensive countries in the world, and the forerunner into dystopian technocratic life. In my heart I have a great hope for this country, that our freedoms could be restored and protected. We will just have to see how things play out. It's awesome you're standing your ground. If I can get a secure set up like you going, I'll be there right with you. Just seems like we're playing on hard mode.

All gardeners understand that gardening is a dictatorship, I am not that keen on extending that concept to the family, only is as much as the family must run as an efficient unit. However,; generation ZEE 'Family value'? Are clearly a catastrophe for their future, not mine because I will be long dead, but I am sure that you catch my drift, how that has come about, we all share the burden here, I am not big on the blame game.

It’s really sad that profanity has become such a common thing on KZfaq videos. I have a little girl that loves watching off grid and homesteading videos because we live that life and she wants to learn different ways to do things. But call me weird, but one thing I don’t want her to learn is the language. And it is a shame that people can’t be family friendly because here is another KZfaqr with good content that I will be unsubscribing to. I use to cuss like a sailor, until I realized how unintelligent it made me sound. There is just to many ways to say things without using profanity. What really blows my mind is that people that live this lifestyle (off grid/homestead ) do it because they know home bad Society has gotten. And I hear them say all the time “ what is happening to our youth “ What’s happening is we take everything that’s bad and make it common. There’s no safe place for kids anymore, so I will gladly give up watching and listening to things that I enjoy for the safety of my child. What we have to remember is what comes out of our mouth is what is in our heart, and what goes in our children’s ears is what their heart becomes. So if all they hear is profanity, or hatred, or negativity. Then that is what we have to look forward to in our future
