This reaction transported me to the time I listened to Ghost Reveries for the first time in my life. Ghost of Perdition, in my opinion, is one, if not the best, prog metal song of the decade. It's flawless. The composition is complex, layered, dynamic and the flow of it is absolutely immaculate. It is emotional, it has a pathos that only Opeth can conjure and the lyrics are one of the darkest Opeth has ever written.

Javier, it’s been years since you commented but I wanted to share my first time listening to this back in 2005. A few pints of German beer in a foreign town, in my dark room, eyes shut, headphones on and having my mind blown away. I can remember everything about my first listen of this album. Oh man... How much i wish to be able to listen to this for the first time again. Yeah, the vocalist/guitarrist/composer, Michael Akerfeldt is pretty much the original "sings like an angel, screams like the devil" person. Hes a big Tatiana's (Jinjer) influence. I think Courtney's (Spiritbox) too.

Harlequin Forest ending was a failed effort to replicate the majesty of the Deliverance ending.
@theuniversewithin74
@theuniversewithin74 11 ай бұрын
@@BonzoDrummerhow is Harlequin Forest a failed attempt at anything? Why do you need to put Opeth's songs against each other, kind of pointless. Opeth has made countless masterpieces and should be cherished as such, instead of comparing them.
@BonzoDrummer
@BonzoDrummer 11 ай бұрын
@@theuniversewithin74 The outro is, to an experienced Opeth listener, a very obvious reference or tribute to the Deliverance outro, but one that just sounds too try-hard and ultimately fails to live up to the original.
@theuniversewithin74
@theuniversewithin74 11 ай бұрын
@@BonzoDrummer So I'm not an "experienced Opeth listener"?? I wouldn't even consider these outroes to be related, other than the unique time signatures. What's the point of putting them up against each other? Why can't you just enjoy them separately for the masterpieces they are? Maybe it's you who are too nostalgic making your perception of the first song taint the other one. Deliverance and HF are two vastly different songs and the outroes are very different. I highly doubt Åkerfeldt has ever said the HF outro was an attempt at Deliverance. Going by your logic we could do this for every Opeth song and compare sections and rate them. Some songs are better than others, but I simply think it's your biased view that keep you from enjoying HF fully.

Now do Coil+Heir Apparent altogether off of the Watershed Album. For the vocals (both clean and dirty), you will not be dissapointed

It may be too much for a reaction video, but linking "The Lotus Eater", and Burden, is a great combo too!

Are you ready for another Opeth song? I have seen Opeth 7 times and LITERALLY bumped into the entire band on the sidewalk when they were going to a Pub before they did the concert!!! Opeth has been a HUGE influence on my band's style of playing! Especially my style of playing drums or bass guitar when I am playing those instruments. Mikael's vocal timbre in both clean and growling is the BEST in all of metal! His guitar playing is second to none...lol

Y'all are awesome! A lot of channels that do "reaction" videos barely react at all and mostly sit there. You two get into the music and rock out, so fun to watch and listen along. I need to explore Opeth, thank you!

Deliverance would logically be next. Completes the big 3 alongside BWP and Ghost of Perdition. Brutal riffs and amazing clean vocals. Anything from the Still Life album would be great too. I’d recommend Serenity Painted Death.

Yeah indeed welcome to Opeth. Great reaction video...this was everything I look forward to in an Opeth reaction video. That raw feeling of amazement and sheer pleasure when you hear this for the first time..you two captured it perfectly. Most Opeth songs take a few listens before you get it..you both got it straight away. My suggestion for next track is Baying of the Hounds...because that comes after Ghost of Perdition on the album..the order as it was intended. Can’t wait for the next one.

Guys, I got chills and almost cried listening to your video and seing your reaction. I discovered this band many years ago. My kids were young and grew up with that band. One day my 16 yo boy invited me to an Opeth show in Quebec city, Canada!!! Was one of the most memorable night of my life. They played Blackwater Park and Ghost of Perdition and since than, it's very emotional for me when I hear those songs. Thanks for that great moment and keep on the good job!!!

Whatever that guitar thing is at 6:19 has always mesmerised me. (Guitar thing, yup, I'm a drummer). This was the first song of Opeth I heard back in '05 at 14 years old. I still hear something new and incredible even when I listen to it now. Love seeing how much you guys get into it!

Mikael Akerfeldt is one of the best creative minds and performing talents of this generation. It's amazing what he comes up with in the studio and how well he translates it to the stage. The rest of the band is also incredible, but the lead singer and guitarist definitely steals the show here.
